Ambiance was nice. It took less than 5 minutes to be seated. The staff was welcoming. Overall, service was ok. Our waiter was not attentive at all. He never circled back around to check on us and we had to flag down another waiter walking by. The food was well seasoned. The temperature could use some improvement. The fish seem like it may have been sitting out for some time as it was warm, but not hot. If I could put it on a scale Of 0-10 with 0 being cold and 10 being fresh out the grease, I'd give it a 4. It still had a crunch to it. The dirty rice was flavorful, yet very dry (I do not recommend). The fried rolls were the best. They really gave me a good plate today. Fish was fried well and the tartar sauce was flavorful (forgot to ask for hot sauce. Dirty rice was darker than when I last had it some time ago but it was flavorful. Biggest surprise was the greens as I had never gotten greens from Sam's that featured strips of bell peppers and onions in them until now. This place is now my go to/must stop while traveling through the state of Mississippi. They're not too far off the highway, which was great. The first time I died here they accidentally gave my food away, but they were very nice about it and started a new order right away even though the person who was giving our food brought the food back, they never gave us the same place which speaks volume in my eyes. Night one I ordered the catfish steak plate. If I knew that catfish steaks had bones in it I wouldn't have ordered it because that's too grown for me haha. But I can tell the food had a lot of flavor I just couldn't finish the fish. We ordered the collard greens and red beans and rice on the side. The red beans and rice was fire and the collard greens were a 6/10. It came with bread on the side as well. I would like to mention that we stopped here pretty late and it still had a decent crowd and they were cleaning up the restrooms. It's a dark little vibe. About a week later, we were traveling back west and I stopped here and got the oysters and catfish plate. The same cashier, which was the black lady with glasses in a fro and a boisterous personality greeted me. With just a few clues she was able to remember me from a week ago. When I tell you, those were the biggest fried horses I've ever had in my life and they were banging and the catfish was also a hit!!! I went with the red beans and rice for the sides. The only thing I wish this place did was gave me hot sauce on the side. They did give me tartar sauce and cocktail sauce, but I wanted some hot sauce and I didn't check the bag before I took off. Our Uber driver recommended this business to us and said it was the best location for this company! And she was right! He got two catfish platters, half grilled half fried and an array of sides to include rice, french fries, fried bread, sautéed vegetables, and turnip greens. We went to Columbus, MS for the 4th of July weekend. We stopped at this place for lunch on our way back to Dallas that Sunday afternoon. This place is amazing! The food and service were FANTASTIC!!! The waitress (Sharon) was phenomenal! We (3 of us) all enjoyed our food! I am now addicted to the Pepper Jack Bites (melt in your mouth!). On my trip back home from "HOME", I found the perfect meal. My meal was made fresh to order and packaged securely for the road trip. The bite size okra pieces weren't gummy or goey as others have been known to overly cook. My shrimp, fish and fries were crispy and not greasy so I was able to taste my hot sauce without getting a queasy feeling in my tummy. While waiting for my order I listened to others diners and could quickly surmise that this is a Sunday hit spot. The employees are very gracious and accommodating to all. Jessica was fantastic! It's like she read my mind when she put I hand up. Jessica just knew I wanted fried green tomatoes. Then it came out....thats enough for a small village. The side salad was a meal by itself. You better come hungry! Best Fried Green Tomatoes ever. My husband's double cheeseburger was so good it hurt just like Jessica said it would. We tried several other local Sam's Southern Eatery locations in the past but after trying this location several years ago, we only go to this one. All locations are a good value for what you get. All Sam's are notorious for giving large portions and extra of what you order. For example, if you order a 4 piece fish they give you 5. Other locations have more of a ghetto feel to me. Here you enter a nice, clean, and spacious restaurant. Food is consistently prepared right. You don't feel rushed in and out. You wait to be seated if dining in and the waitresses are friendly and attentive. Cece is THE WAITRESS you want. She thinks of everything and makes certain you have the best dining experience possible. You will not be lacking any condiments or be sitting with an empty drink cup. Only downside is you know you gotta reward her with a large tip. You better treat her right! We love their fried fish and grilled fish. The grilled fish also come with grilled veggies instead of fries. That's usually what I get for myself. Fried green tomatoes, bring'em on. Fried shrimp and shrooms, oh yeah. My daughter gets their fried chicken strip kids meal with fries and they aren't skinny strips. They are are at least 4" x 4" and super tender and juicy. At least 3 pieces. She always takes at least 2 strips home with some fries. Only item I don't like is their grilled chicken. It just seems like it was marinated in a mild orange-looking sauce and steamed...no grill but maybe it just steams on the grill in liquid. Fried chicken gizzards are ok but need to be tenderized 1st on a pressure cooker; Your teeth get a workout. Fried chicken livers are good here if you're in to them. They have great value family meal pans that we often call in and pick up. We get the fried fish or grilled fish or sometimes ask for half n half. They come with loads of fries and hush puppies.
