The glass comes out undressed and it's clearly Bloody Mary mix. When asked if it was michelada mix the server says no it's Bloody Mary mix. I should be offered that when I am going to be charged for a drink that I didn't ask for. When someone asks for a Michelada you probably should assume they have had it before and give them what they ask for. Great spot on the water and really good for watching the pelicans. They've got both indoor and outdoor seating and so many TVs that you can barely pay attention to the people you're with. Service is ok, and the food is alright. I went with the seafood platter which is big enough for sharing with a few people. Their crab balls did have some crab in it but they reminded me more of hush puppies. Otherwise, the fare is pretty standard and will fill you up. Just came here with the co-workers for a work sponsored happy hour. We sat outside to accommodate the smokers and as a runner, I did not enjoy this at all. I understand smoking is allowed, but as a rule, I just don't sit somewhere where I have to breathe it. I don't think there was enough room for all of us inside though, which is too bad, as I think I might have enjoyed it more if it had been a non-smoking environment. I really wanted a Summer Shandy, but they didn't have that, so I ordered iced tea. I didn't want any liquor, as I had had enough of that nonsense the weekend before. I'm really not a big drinker, so hard liquor once in a while is plenty for me! We just had chips and queso and jalapeno poppers. Both were fine. Nothing outstanding, but typical bar food. The waitress recommended a new tequila to the folks that wanted margarita and not a single person liked it. Not sure if she was just trying to push it for promotional reason, or really thought it was good stuff. She was in the minority though. Our waitress took about 15 minutes to greet us "I'm in the weeds, what can I get you" we ordered drinks and food same time. 55 minutes later our food arrived the crawfish were okay at best, but my sons cheeseburger was raw. When we addressed this with our waitress "wow that's the second one today" and the table next to us chimes in their child's burger was raw as well. New burger was brought out (still raw). When the bill came I let the waitress know that the mushrooms we were charged didn't come with our crawfish "oh ok, man they are slacking" still charges us for them. I probably would have given it more stars if I was enjoying a cold one, but alas it was during work ;-) Ordered a lunch special: 1/2 of a Turkey BLT and Seafood Gumbo for 6.95. Sandwich was good--then again, it is pretty hard to screw up a BLT w/Turkey and the Gumbo was spicy with small shrimp, a few tiny pieces of chicken and a few pieces of andouille sausage. Before the pandemic, my coworkers had invited me after work to Sam's boat to have dinner. We were all craving some crawfish and a couple of beers and decided to meet other females that a coworker of mine knew. The place was really busy but the wait wasn't that long and the service was OK but we understood because of how busy it was. I ordered 3 pounds of crawfish, do not judge me I could've definitely ate more. The crawfish is delicious and the veggies with the crawfish are also pretty amazing. I also ordered shark bites which surprisingly very tasty. I had went back for a second time with my family and we were able to sit out on the patio on a really nice day and listen to the live band. I highly recommend sitting outside the view of the ocean and the band playing in the bar area it was just a really great vibe and we were all very satisfied with the service and the food. During quarantine this place had 5 pounds of crawfish for $25 and let's just say my family and I got about 15 pounds and ate every single bit of it. While we had a good time at Sam's Boat, I ordered some food to go. Two burgers, an order of their queso blanco, and an order of their crab queso. Turns out, both quesos are the same except they give you a tablespoon worth of crab to put in your queso and charge you $7 more. They charge you $7 more for ten fucking cents worth of crab meat. They also didn't include any chips for the two orders of queso. When I called to ask about the chips I got a disingenuous "sorry" not sorry from a girl who couldn't care less. We somehow still ended up with terrible service and a miserable waitress who looked like she just rolled out of bed. She took about 10 minutes to get our drink order, then disappeared for another 10, then disappeared again for like 15 minutes before she finally came back for our food order (Which was annoying). The waitress decided my kid was too old for the kids meal and added an adult up-charge, charged for the free drink and up-charge to sub Mac n cheese instead of fries. If I had known up front instead of when ticket arrived, I would have just ordered adult plate. Other reviews on here complained about lack of service, but we had a different experience. We went today (Sunday) the first week of NFL and sat where we wanted. The bar was pretty full, but the rest of the restaurant had plenty of seating, including the outdoor patio seating. It was game day, so of course ppl were inside with the TVs. Within 45 seconds of sitting down someone came to take our drink orders and brought us menus. We shared the chili cheese fries - perfect bar food. I had Dos XX and Corona Light, he had iced tea. Beer was cold. I ordered seared yellowfin tuna salad which was mixed greens, cold green beans, tomato, egg topped with a perfectly seared tuna steak. M had the shrimp po boy with onion rings. The o rings were very good, breaded just right and a little sweet. His po boy was really good. The shrimp were butterflied, breaded nicely and tasted a little sweet. The po boys were accompanied by tasty slaw on the sandwich. I will definitely get the fried shrimp next time! Not sure why there are 3 hostess here in the first place. All they do is congregate and chat. It's not very inviting when instead of being bubbly and welcoming me they just say in a somber voice, "Are you meeting someone here?" I went with my family after church so we arrived at around 12:30 pm today. I like how they have a TV at each table and the atmosphere was good for watching the Texans game. They also have a full bar and outside patio seating with view of water. I'm not a big fan of seafood unfortunately so I can't tell you much about that. I kept it simple and ordered a cheeseburger and fries. Our waitress was nice but we did have to remind her of more water and more tea. As an appetizer we ordered chips and salsa. I didn't love the taste of the salsa and it definitely tasted store bought. The chips were tasty but I'm not sure if it was because they were brittle but 1/3 of them were just small pieces of whole chips. The food came out in a timely manner. I think my mom had some kind of chicken strip salad and they didn't skimp on the chicken or the lettuce. I'm not sure if this is pandemic related but the burger didn't come with mustard and the fries didn't come with any ketchup. We had to request it from the waitress and she brought us little tubs and ketchup and mustard packets. Then we had to open multiple ketchup packets and squeeze them into the tubs. I just thought the whole thing was a little weird. The fries looked great and were cooked perfect. They had a great taste to them but they really need to ease up on the salt. I don't think I've ever eaten a pickle I didn't like especially when it's chopped up on a burger. The pickles tasted funny and I removed them from the burger. The bun was nice and soft and tasted great but the hamburger patty was bland as hell. I've had better burgers at a Little League baseball game. We come here occasionally to enjoy the view outside when the weather is good. Food has been pretty decent, but I feel that the quality is going downhill. We visited again today and this time the service was bad. The waitress took our order of fish tacos and a Cesar salad/gumbo combo with a completely blank stare. My mom is a little hard of hearing these days, but the waitress never tried to slow down or speak more clearly even if it was pretty obvious that my mom could not hear her very well. The food came quickly, but the waitress left without giving us utensils. Two times I tried to get the attention of one of the other waitresses without success. It was almost as if they deliberately avoided eye contact. After nearly 10 minutes I gave up and went inside the bar, but no one was there either so I ended up grabbing utensils myself from behind the counter. That feels a little awkward. The tacos didn't have much flavor and no sauce was provided, but at least the beans and pico were good. The Cesar salad was good, but the gumbo was dreadful. During the whole meal no one came to the table to check on us. This place used to be better. It even smells musty on the inside now - perhaps they've had some water damage? Hope they can improve because it is a nice place to enjoy a drink or a meal when the weather permits. read more

My companion and I dined at Sam's Boat on March 7th 2022 at about 3:30. We usually go to another restaurant further east but they were out of raw oysters that day so we decided Sam's might be an alternative. I know it's not fair to judge a restaurant on one visit, but many people do, and management should be aware of this fact. This review will be a review of the food we were presented with, and the service we encountered. I am aware that in the wake of the pandemic, restaurants have undergone a great deal of turnover. So, I won't be harsh when rating our rather young and inexperienced server. She was polite and friendly, and I tipped her 20% because I don't "ding" the server for something she had no control over. On to the food. I ordered a cup of red beans and rice, a dozen oysters on the half shell and a glass of domestic beer. My companion ordered a shrimp po' boy and a glass of dark beer (the name of which escapes me). My beer was really cold which was a plus but from there things went downhill. The server brought my cup of red beans and rice to me first. My first impression was that the dish might have been sitting out for a while rather than being freshly ladled from a fresh pot being that it was rather "dry". Being that I am a lover of fresh oysters (which I have consumed all along the Gulf Coast), there is no other way of describing what I was presented with other than the word greatly disappointed. They were "cloudy", tough, and rather tasteless. The only other fresh oyster disappointment worse than this one was at a restaurant on the Kemah Boardwalk which might be out of business now. They used a pasteurizing process that made the oysters inedible (to me), and I sent them back. An experienced server would have noticed the color of the oysters and would have questioned the person who had shucked them. Personally, I think they had been frozen then thawed out. My companion didn't complain about her shrimp po'boy so I can only assume it met her expectations. Will I give Sam's Boat another chance I can't say. After all spending $53+ (before a 20% tip) for a non-entree dinner is, in my opinion fairly pricey. But if the opportunity presents itself, I might visit again, but I'd want to question the server as to how the oysters look before ordering. We are regulars at this place since we live nearby. The food and the drinks are great. Once you get seated, the wait staff are friendly, quick and attentive. The problem is the service in the front of the house. We have gone several times to be told there's a 25-30 minute wait time to sit but the restaurant is half empty when you look around. When you point out there's plenty of open, clean tables to the hostesses, they tell you they don't want to overwhelm the servers. Newsflash: I do NOT care about that as a customer when I'm hungry and see a half empty restaurant. This happens more often than not. We have also placed a few orders for pick up. ALL OF THEM have been wrong. Some we caught at the restaurant and had them fix it but they up charged us for the fix. Some, like not dressing the salad, we did not catch until we got home so I had to make a dressing at home. I honestly don't know why they have 6 hostesses doing nothing right in the front. Last time, I came really close to calling a manager about the service issues at the front because we love this place and want to see it do better. All I can say is WOW!! When we walked in we were greeted by the hostess, we wanted to sit outside they told us the only tables that were available were in the sun or sitting at the bar so we went to the bar, we saw some people get up from a table that was not in the sun so we went outside and sat at it after it had been cleaned. After a few minutes of sitting outside the hostess (Bernn) tried to seat someone at the table that we were sitting at the people said no will sit over in the sun, the hostess told us we needed to move ...Really??? Ok fine so my husband was going to go to the hostess sand to let them know (Brenn) brought another party of people over to the table, and told us we had to leave now mind you there were other tables available around us that were not in the sun that were available! At this point we were feeling a little on the harassed side because we did not let the hostess know we were sitting there even though she was a hostess and knew that we were sitting there! This was our first time there so I guess if you don't know all of their "rules" you are told to get up! We had a group of people that we're going to meet us there we are going to eat and drink and have a good time but apparently they have no problem with losing a sales!! WOW!! I can't give a thumbs down on the food because I didn't get a chance to try it, but I can give us some is down on(Brenn)! We won't be back!! read more
