You can try your garments on in store and have them pinned by an employee so you can see you're getting the fit you want. One employee came in for the first pair I had on, pinned them quickly, and told me that they were good. For my second pair a different employee came in and told me that they recommend getting a smaller size, as there was too much fabric to alter the jeans effectively. I thought it was odd that they could work with one pair and not the other, but they are different fits and I don't know anything about hemming pants. I paid for the one pair of jeans to be altered and returned the other pair to the store and ordered more. I dropped the jeans off on a Monday midday, and I was told that I could pick them up anytime after 5pm that Thursday. I went on Friday at 4pm to pick them up and was asked to wait 30 minutes for them to finish up. Annoying, but fine. I came back in after 30 minutes and a different employee said they don't know why I was asked to wait. They could not alter the pants. She then brought out the unaltered jeans, pinned but not worked on, and said that she would recommend I get another size. This is the first time they are telling me they can't work on the pants I paid for Monday and that were supposed to be done the day prior. No phone call, nothing. At this point I had the other pair of jeans that I had ordered after my visit on Monday. I was desperate for the jeans to fit in time for a trip, so I left them with the new pair. I was told that for my trouble she would rush the new pair I dropped off and have them done on the following Tuesday after 4pm. I went on Tuesday at 4:30. They were not done. I was asked to wait 30 minutes, I ended up waiting an hour. The pants fit well at the waist, but then I had to wait for them to pin them to be taken up. I was told that I could pick the pants up that following Saturday after 3pm. Spoiler alter - THEY WEREN'T DONE! The employee behind the counter asked if I really needed them done and seemed annoyed when I said that I did. They rush hemmed them and got them to me in 20 minutes. This was the worst customer service I've received in a long time, and while the result was good, I don't think it was worth the hassle. It was $40 to get the jeans taken in at the waist and $13 for the hem. If you just need a hem, or you have the patience to be told something different every time you speak to an employee, I think you'll be fine. I would not recommend.

We had a terrible experience with Northumberland cleaning and tailoring regarding some linen…read moredraperies. We took them in the first week of August and it took nearly 6 weeks for them to be cleaned. The draperies had metal loops that needed to be removed, and apparently their tailor was part of the problem. The people that I and my husband spoke to in trying to get them back to us were not very helpful, and all we got were excuses to various problems they had. Then the bill was $265, which is insane. I was out of town when my husband picked them up and he did not question it, which I definitely would have done. So, beware of this highly expensive and inept cleaner, and go elsewhere. Oh, and they also lost one of the loops in the draperies.

I hate to do this since the people working there seemed very friendly. But I had a few expensive…read moredress shirts washed and pressed there and I was very disappointed to find that (1) they usually write in permanent ink at the bottom of the shirt (but they were happy not to do this upon request), (2) one of my shirts was ironed incorrectly with most of the buttoned area folded onto itself (but they offered to fix this and have me pick it up the next day), and (3) there were large oval shaped indentations ironed into the bottom of each shirt, which they said were "normal" caused by the ironing machine they use. Other than that the shirts came out relatively fine, and the prices were reasonable, so its fine for your everyday business casual shirt I guess. I don't think I'll be coming here again though for any nice quality shirt.

I had bought a dress that was one size too large, and on a Saturday, I visited this tailor shop to ask them to take in the dress. An employee immediately and kindly greeted me. She told me to enter a dressing room and to put on the dress. After several minutes, she entered the dressing room, and she inserted pins where the dress should be taken in. Next, at the cash register, another employee rang up the cost of the tailoring. This employee seemed to be new, and the other employee politely helped her. I had the option of either paying for the tailoring then or later at pickup. I chose to pay for my dress right then, and the cost of tapering my dress from the underarm to the bottom was $32.75. The employees told me that my dress would be ready for pickup after 5 PM on Friday. On Friday, the store sent me a text message to remind me that my tailored dress was ready for pickup. I picked up my dress on a Saturday morning. An employee greeted me, and then she looked for my dress in the back and brought it out to me. I felt surprised that she did not ask me to try on the dress in the store, but I tried on the dress at home, and the dress fit me well.

Plus we decided to add straps utilizing some of the cut material and they were fully transparent on the price for it if decided we did not want to based on price. We had about 2 months before the event, but got it back within four days! I would definitely go back. The seamstress we worked with had the best questions, was caring, and attentive to details. It really put our family member at ease with their dream dress.

I have been a customer of Ianni's since the late 1980's, and keep going back for several reasons…read more First, the tailoring that Ted has done for me has always been first rate quality. He is careful to measure a garment and I've never had him do a sloppy job, even once. There are instances where he could not help, as if I needed pants to be let out, and there wasn't sufficient material to work with. If he cannot do what is requested, he will calmly explain why. He is truly an old school type of tailor, and has always paid great attention to detail. I haven't seen his wife JoAnn for some time, but their son Paul has also been working with them for more than 10 years. All of them have always greeted me in a very friendly and welcoming manner. Their cleaning services are also excellent. They have occasionally managed to clean stains I thought were permanently set. If threads are wearing thin, they will advise if there is a repair they can do, to extend the garment life. They have never lost a garment, and if a price is quoted on the claim slip, they stick to that quote. I've never had it happen, but I know that occasionally a problem can come up, that wasn't foreseen, as every garment is constructed by slightly different specifications, by each manufacturer. In that event, I could see an alteration or repair costing higher, especially with custom made garments, but I also think that would be very rare. Ianni's has been in business for 30+ years, and no business lasts that long if they're not doing things right. The general demeanor I have seen from the Ianni's is a gentle kindness (think of Mr. Rogers, who apparently was also a regular customer. I saw him there many times). The Ianni's are truly a family business, and I've always felt their dedication to doing things right, because of that. That said, I imagine that every day isn't a good one, as is true for all of us. Sometimes, various stresses can overwhelm anyone, and though I'm sure it's rare for the Ianni's, I know they're not immune. The bottom line is that they are experienced, kind, honest, hard working and service oriented, and VERY capable of doing the job right.

Terrible experience! I took a bridesmaid dress to be shortened 1 1/2 inches and he charged $75,…read morewhich was much more than the other bridesmaids were charged. Unfortunately because I didn't have much time, I couldn't go elsewhere. He screwed it up once and made it very noticeably uneven. So he had to do it again and took another week this time. When I went to pick it up again, he acted like he was cutting me a break by not charging more for doing it twice. He was extremely rude and raised his voice. I would describe Ianni's Taioloring as poor quality, rude, and expensive and discourage anyone from taking anything to him.
