It was uncomfortablely hot in the restaurant. I had Steak and shrimp. The "steak" was definitely beef but not steak. It was mealy and tough. My wife had chicken,and almost ate none of it. An annual Christmas Eve tradition for our family did not disappoint this year. They did not take reservations this year, but have in the past. We were fortunate enough to not have to wait for a table, but there were a total of 8 people at our table which did not allow for 2 of us to enjoy the dinner prep "show". It was zero degrees out and it was so cold at our table that we wore our coats the entire night. We spent $300 to be frozen s and ate in such a rush because we were so cold that we only spent one hour in the restaurant for all that money. I use to go to this place once a week , constancy of the food was a problem. I ordered soup that i normally get every week and i said to the owner it was not good. He knows i come every week and he told me it was good to him... long story short i told him i will never go there again. He didn't seem to care. Strange experience overall. The atmosphere is that of many basic hibachi restaurants; some hibachi stations to sit around on one side of the establishment and tables for those who may want other items, off of a menu, on the opposite side. No background music was being played which made for a bit of awkwardness. The staff seemed to be just shy of friendly, as if the goal was just to deal with the customers to get them in and out quickly without any kind of enjoyable dining experience. I ordered the Katsu, which is typically to be served with shredded cabbage, rice, lemon wedges, and tonkatsu sauce. I received a sliced piece of fried chicken on top of nearly a full head of unchopped iceberg lettuce, with a what seemed to be barbecue sauce on the side versus the tonkatsu. No garnishes...just a super plain dish with far too much lettuce. The menu states it was to be served with "soup or salad, and rice." No rice was provided. ($16) My friend ordered beef teriyaki dinner ($26.95). The menu says it's to be served with soup or salad and steamed rice. She said as served the rice about 15 minutes ahead of the rest of the meal - the steak. The steak was served on top of what was probably about 2-3 whole sliced and grilled white onion. The meat was flavorless, even after adding the teriyaki sauce. On the upside, the rest of our party of four split up the onion to give some flavor to our terribly bland dishes. The shrimp tempura dinner one of us received was just as basic as it would be anywhere and extremely overpriced at $20.95, particularly considering it was also missing the rice that was to accompany it. This same person ordered the Kani Salad ($7.75) as a starter, which tasted as though it was just mixed with French salad dressing. My son ordered the Ohio roll ($14.95) and the California roll ($5.75), which were about as basic as sushi gets. Would I recommend this restaurant? What do you think?! ‍‍ read more

We returned here tonight in person. Do you have a family member with food allergies? We do. And the way they assure my child is always safe....it's the ultimate customer service. You tell wait staff what the allergies are. They note them and have an appropriate meal prepared. They warn your entire family of anything that could be problematic and should not be shared. It's very impressive. I will keep coming back forever. And also, love the inventive sushi menu, the mushroom soup for hibachi that is lighter than the usual miso and the showmanship of the dinner. Tonight we variously had steak, chicken and salmon hibachi and added a much loved sushi appetizer . All were good. The salmon comes in a nice soy glaze. Several boxes were taken home as left overs. I chose this hibachi take out location to celebrate my birthday dinner, but unfortunately did not receive the standard I was expecting for a $25 filet mignon hibachi dinner. I realize takeout will never equal seated restaurant quality , but I believe the issue here was created because the veggies were steamed and not grilled as is typical with hibachi veggies. Hey at least the steamed veggies were a healthier option but I was ready to eat some butter with my veggies on the big day. read more

Horrible experience and rude host at the front desk. We had a 6 pm reservation, checked in upon arrival all guests were there. They told us 10 to 15 minutes even though we had a reservation. The lobby was way too many people so we told them we are going to wait out front . After 15 min we came in for an update our name had been crossed off and no table was available just a response of it should be just a few more minutes. We than watched them give the next table to someone who had arrived well after us and told it'll be another 10 to 15 minutes. We told him we were already told this when arrived he said oh sorry and walked away and couldn't have cared less. Came for a nice family dinner with 6 and walked out treated wisely and still trying to figure out why our reservation at 6 pm was ignored when we left at 625. Will not attempt to return in the future and happy to take my business elsewhere. read more

Local restaurant the family has been to for some time. Absolutely splendid spot about 8 years ago. Just visited again after quite some time. Food was just alright, sushi I rate 8/10. Rice 10/10. Skimped out on the chicken for hibachi dinner and undercooked vegetables. Service 1/10 extremely unfriendly, this really stood out because they were laughing at my grandma, when asked for a to go cup for yum yum sauce. Then talked a bit rudely literally behind our backs. Really disappointed on this place for price and food quality. Over $5 for a hand roll... with only avocado... and when you order a vegetarian one, it comes mixed with the regular ones... Menu with very little vegetarian options... so we called to order and ask if we could have some options without the meat and they said it was not possible. When our favorite hibachi place in Solon closed due to the owners' retirement, we went in search of another place to get enjoy hibachi, and decided to try this one. I have had hibachi in many cities, and the formula is pretty much the same everywhere, with the main difference being the showpersonship of the chef. The chefs here were very personable and great. There was much spatula and fork flipping, rice was flying about like a snowstorm. They even throw broccoli to be caught in the mouths of hungry diners. It isn't often you see someone tossing salad items in a restaurant! Everything was pretty standard hibachi fare, I ordered my steak rare and it was served that way. The sashimi was fresh and delicious. This could have been 5 stars but for two things: I didn't get a drink refill until I flagged down the server at the end of the meal, and the soap dispenser in the men's room was empty. Authentic!! Very accommodating for adapting the meal to gluten free. The chicken fried rice side dish was enough for dinner and tomorrow's lunch. They gave me a tasty sauce to replace the soy sauce. The steak fried rice side was plenty for my husband. Our son had the hibachi steak and chicken with rice and veggies. A great place to celebrate a birthday. A gong and all!! There's no other way to start this review then by saying that the service at Samurai is F-A-S-T. Does Clark Kent work here? From the moment you sit down to nearly 10 minutes in, you already have your drink, soup, salad and sushi. When Mom and I are shopping in Aurora, stopping in for dinner is a no brainer. The hibachi never lets me down! The rice and vegetables have fantastic seasoning and are crave-worthy. I usually go with the shrimp (plump and juicy!), but the chicken and steak are awesome, too. We're not too into the hibachi experience in general...so we tend to just grab a booth in the back and indulge in privacy. For those who do sit at the hibachi, they have really talented chefs. One gentleman is so hilarious, I literally will laugh at him halfway across the restaurant. I'm a sushi snob, and the specialty sushi here passes the test. The Chelsea role is one of my favorites, particularly because my Mom isn't too into rolls that are very raw, and this one is easily enjoyable. The shrimp, avocado, cucumber, asparagus and seared tuna are a delightful combo and have a great presentation. They also have the world's easiest online ordering. Visited here for a birthday party, our hibachi chef was the most enthusiastic we've ever had! The children loved him, and he kept us entertained. I felt horrible for the neighboring table that had a boring, bland chef, but sometimes that's just how it goes. The food was decent. It appeared fresh, but what does it matter when you add three sticks of butter, a quart of oil and a handful of garlic? You could throw the frozen tuna in there and no one would know. Service was great with refills and they even let us use the gong. Tasty birthday ice cream too. It's not going to win culinary awards, but they will give a great show for the family at the hibachi tables. read more

The hibachi show is the highlight. My family always has an entertaining night here. I especially love the onion volcano, always a sight to behold. Food is guaranteed to be served hot. The sashimi isn;t bad either, they serve my favorite -- white tuna. If there was only one targeted area of improvement, is that the whole place smells like cooking oil. The Cabernet I ordered tasted stale, the chef was bickering in a foreign language with his coworker working one table over, our waitress left after she brought out the soups and salads never to be seen and not collecting all the dirty plates, and the best part- what I'm assuming was the manager came up to our group AS WE STARTED EATING and said they needed to close the restaurant and we had to be done in 15 minutes. read more

We moved to Solon from the west side and have been searching for a good sushi place. A lot of the places in this area can be expensive. We checked out the menu and were impressed with the prices ($3.75 for veggie roll, $4 for sweet potato tempura roll). The sushi was excellent! Super fresh ingredients. We'll definitely be back ASAP. Note: my fiancée didn't want to come because he thought it wouldn't be a real sushi bar, but they do in fact have a sushi bar even tho it's called a steak house. read more

I've never really been a fan of hibachi spots. As good as the show might be, I've always felt the food quality is invariably compromised. This place is no exception. Disappointed in meal. First bad is they put shrimp in my steak entree and I hate seafood. Second bad, I called to complain because I wanted noodles in place of rice, I put in special instructions on the app that noodles were to be in place of rice. Third, when I called the lady hung up on me because I asked her a question she couldn't answer regarding the instructions not being read. If you put seafood in the dish you should INDICATE THAT somewhere on your menu. So a $30 lunch I can't eat because of the seafood taste and they don't want to make it right. We've had many nice meals at the Samurai, however I was disappointed in our visit yesterday. We had a full table of 15 people for dinner after my son's graduation ceremony. When seated we told the server we had a guest who needed to have no seasoning on his steak. She acknowledged this. When the chef cam out and verified orders we again told him. He began cooking and started to season all of the steaks and and I said "no seasoning on one". He seasoned anyways. When we brought this to his and the server's attention they said "oh sorry". Sorry? No offer to re-cook or anything. So instead of enjoying his steak, he was unable to eat it. We expected a little more when we told both the server and the chef in advance. read more

Staff and service was quick during a very busy night. The food is the reason for my 2 star rating. I was a big fan of Akira over in Solon which recently closed. The hibachi comes no where close to Akira. Yum Yum sauce and ginger were huge let downs. The salad dressing was thick and doused. Soup broth was really fishy tasting (weird because it's mushroom soup). I ordered shrimp and steak which was very average. The chef crushed it and entertained the family. What to do when you love to eat teppanyaki but your poor introvert spouse hates the hibachi show and being seated with strangers? Samurai Steakhouse to the rescue! They let us sit in the dining room and eat the yummy food while skipping the show and awkward conversation. Also to clarify, I am the awkward introvert in this situation :) As others have mentioned, the service is fast. Super fast. I don't know that were were there for more than 35-40 minutes and we lingered a bit after our meal. Every one was very polite and I felt the prices were comparable to similar restaurants in this area. Food was yummy as expected. We will be back. read more
