This is among the worst supermarkets in Portola. They dont even ask if you need a bag for your items after you purchase. I bought eggs and avocados and the attendant did ask me if I need a bag after charging my card asked her why she did not ask me for a bag and she said its my fault. This market is a scam. I tried to return an item that I had just purchased and haven't stepped into my car but they charged me for the return fee. The food here is not very fresh. Be cautious when buying products--always check the expiration dates. I've unfortunately bought several items that were expired because I didn't check beforehand. Another issue is that they sometimes charge extra for items you didn't purchase. Always double-check your receipt to make sure you aren't overcharged. I wouldn't recommend shopping here. read more

Alert !!! The vegetables and fruits are not fresh ! My family went to San Bruno Supermarkets to buy a bag of chestnuts in the day before yesterday. After cooking, I smelled a weird smell inside them. It's so outrageous and disgusting that every chestnut was rotten. So I decided to go to the supermarket to complain and try to get a refund. The boss and the staff were so impolite and rude. They refused to apologize and refund even though it just cost $6.64. Although I am an eighty years-old lady, I am furious with how the staff treated me. Finally, I will complain to the government. The dry goods and freezer section of this Asian market is cleaner than any market on Clement or Irving or in Chinatown. I'm surprised people are complaining about the cleanliness. I noticed that some of the prices are higher on some goods. My tip is to learn and compare prices of staple items. The veggies and fruits are fine. Had ordered some sodas through instacart and the pricing was not correct so I had to call instacart and get a refund which they only gave me a little over half of what I spent. I decided to call San Bruno market and let them know of their pricing mistake but nobody answered so I hung up and about 2 minutes later I got a call back from Joe who was extremely professional and apologetic for the mistake and he told me next time I'm in he will make things right for me. This is the kind of customer service that I wish all businesses would have, five stars all around the board for Joe and San Bruno Market! I came here to buy snacks to represent different Asian countries and I found food from over nine different countries. The staff was very helpful in assisting me to find items I was looking for. I appreciate the variety they bring to the neighborhood at still an affordable price in comparison to other stores in the City that try to pull off a similar concept. Avoid at all cost. I would give this place a negative star if I could. First experience - I stopped by this grocery store because it had parking. I bought a few items while my husband went across the street to get us boba. I got back into my car with my groceries and was setting up the gps. Not even 5 sec after getting into my car I hear a knock on my window. I look up and it was the guy from the grocery store. I row down my window, the guy says " no parking unless you are a customer". I was surprised since he saw me get out of the store with my groceries. So I told him, I did buy a bag of groceries, do you want to see my receipt? He said " you buy so little and you want to park here, where's your husband". I guess $50 worth of groceries is not considered enough... There were plenty of parking spots available - I was not loitering just new to the area so needed to set up my GPS. Honestly instead of insulted I felt harassed. It was a bit creepy... Second experience (without a car this time)- I know you must be thinking why go back there. I was with my mom and she wanted to see the grocery store. My mom had a small service animal with her. When we entered the store a guy asked - is this dog a service animal? We said yes. He said ok. So we shopped around. When we were leaving a woman (I'm guessing the boss lady) yelled at us and said. "No dog, get out". We said the guy said it was ok since it's a service animal. She said "I know what he said, no dog, get out". I am so shocked and lost for words. It was odd she found the need to yell at us because we were on our way out and were 5 feet from the entrance. In addition this happened today on Christmas Eve. I know Asian markets are not generally known for their customer service but this is a bit extreme. It seems like they are actively trying to make customers feel unwelcome. Objectively items are not cheap here compared to the other grocery stores. It does have ac and a place to park (maybe for customers that pay more than $50 worth of groceries) but not worth the headache. I'm not sure if you can see the mold forming up by the middle of the green area but today I purchased this without looking at the bottom cause my mom just handed to me. Who would have known that there was a tiny moldy spot. I ran back since the car wasn't parked too far away from SanBruno supermarket and see if I can get my money back cause I'm sure nobody would want to waste money on a moldy dragon fruit that cost 12 bucks. However, the owner of the store told me it's not refundable and I can just rub it off or something like that. She also mentioned about cutting it for me but with Covid going, would you feel safe for someone else to cut your fruit and you bring home in a plastic bag? If I could give no stars I would. I normally only leave reviews if it's extraordinarily good or fantastically bad. This market has got to be the worst Asian Grocery Market in San Francisco. None of the cashiers, stockers, butchers speak English. The whole store smells like a bait shop.The floors are sticky and dingy. Seriously, I don't know how this store passed the San Francisco Health Department Sanitation Test. They must've paid one of the supervisors to pass. There is dust on all the merchandise. No visible price tags on the shelves. The products are stocked haphazardly on top of one another. Unopened boxes on every aisle. Customers just keep cutting in line to get to the registers. It has everything I need and then some. I love that they carry "obscure" items like rice noodles and bird's eyes chilies and all types of rice. Great market for all my Asian food. It's not a giant business that can support losses like a Safeway or Grocery outlet. Parking is limited to customers only, that's understandable. I had to run to atm to get cash but I told them and they were cool about me parking there. Large selection of meet and fishes. Do make sure they are fresh. The seafood/butcher department's customer service is terrible. I went there last week to buy crab and asked for the largest one they had. He just grabbed whatever he could find in the tank and when I asked for a different one, he said take it or leave it. On every occasion there he's never put any effort besides the minimum. I won't mince words: this place is a total dive. The staff are unhelpful unless they know you. Most of the time it's dingy or dirty around food that isn't popular/doesn't move often. There are numerous items with expired dates. But this is not safeway. This is not trader joes. This is an old school Chinese supermarket. They have something like 70 different selections of meat. Chicken, any part and any way you want it. Beef, same. Pork, Same. Fish heads to fish balls. Any crustacean you can think of. Dozens of selections of fish. And the best part? Steak is 5$ a pound. Chicken breast, 2.99$. You can get mid size shrimp for 7-8$ a pound. There's nowhere in the city I've found a meat market this cheap, this clean. There's a place across the street where the butchers smoke cigarettes with their gloves and aprons on.... so that's a reference. You can get cheap, cheap, cheap sake, liquor, and frozen asian goods. The veggies are still kind of expensive compared to other markets, but it's nothing too extreme. It's definitely worth a trip if you need to slow cook a rack of ribs, and you want to only spend 10$. Been shopping here for 4 years. I've learned what to buy and how to buy it. If you come in thinking you'll be coddled like at Trader Joes, then just go there instead. Ill come here for 2 reasons. #1 I forgot to get some ingredients from 99 ranch market. #2 Crabs. When they are in season they're like 4.99/lb. That's when I feel to lazy to go all the way over to 99 to save a buck. My mom bought fish here one time. There was a bunch in a ice box on display. She found a fresh one with nice eyes and stuff.
