Very loud apartment manager judgmental standards.If others were as loud and had 1/4 of the crap outside the door as she does everyone would hear it her tell you. she talks loud especially when she's on the phone can hear her in the entire courtyard. Manager has multiple garages, more storage closets and a few parking spots having tenants - the customers - with less or none. Heard a neighbor yesterday nicely asking her to move some of the mess the manager has outside the door mgr was rude and argued that she's the manager and sets all the rules. Didn't hear all of it. As long as we've been here obvious manager makes rules for everyone else and she does whatever she wants is her rule. Sucks for company - 1 person shading the whole company. read more

This property management was in violation of CA Civil Code Section 1941.3 Deadbolt locks on easily accessible exterior doors and windows must be functioning. This is a minimum requirement for the security of tenants and if a window or door cannot be locked properly, a landlord must fix it immediately. Failure to do so violates the "warranty of habitability", permitting the tenant to move out, repair and deduct, or withhold rent as remedies. First Request: 8/18/2023 - Completed 08/22/2023 = 4 days without being able to lock both doors Second Request: 8/31/2023 - Completed 09/12/2023 = 12 days without being able to lock the door to me bedroom Third Request: On 9/14/23 I emailed informing management directly that the sliding door was not working properly again. Maintenance came out on 9/26/23, another 12 days with the door not locking properly. The door had to be removed and then the door keeper had to be unscrewed and the lock lever sawed down to fit. The door was able to shut and be locked but there was still tension making it difficult to lock, in conclusion it was determined that the whole thing had to be replaced. Finally on Thursday 10/24/2023 the entire frame and door were replaced. We requested a rent credit for SOME of the days of the violation of CA Civil Code Sec. 1941.3. We could have stopped paying rent for two months but we chose to and kindly asked the prorate the rent since the home was deemed uninhabitable by law. It's not about the money but the principle and all we wanted was some recognition and consideration. They have provided zero citation for the determination of why they shouldn't prorate the rent and took weeks to respond and then ignored my request for the owner and lawyer contact information. First request for rent credit/deduction for violation of CA Civil Code Sec. 1941.3 * Request via email 09/14/2023 * Request in person 9/26/2023 o Followed up via email 9/27/2023 * Request 10/03/2023 o First response from owner 10/04/2023 * Request 10/05/2023 o Second response from owner 10/25/2023 * Request 10/25/2023 They never provided me with any proof they had the right to reject my request. I sent a Demand Letter on 11/02/2023 and they ignored me and chose to instead move forward with retaliation. Which Under Civil Code Section 1942.5, it is illegal for a landlord to retaliate against a tenant for lawfully and peaceably exercising their legal rights. I lived at an apartment for 3 years in South Park and I enjoyed my time there. The manager keeps the complex clean and if something needs fixing she's on it right away. My first apartment in San Diego and it was a great time. It was clean, comfortable and it was quiet which was the best part. The rent was great and although my lease was only for 6 months, I didn't have an increase in rent till about the second year. And when I did get an increase I was notified with plenty of time to prepare for it financially. No complaints on my end. read more

This is my very first one star review! I usually like to stick to the good things a place has to offer, but in this case I find it necessary to relay my experience with everyone else and hopefully the manager/owner of this place too. This is by far one of the worst customer service experiences I've had. It's just a bummer how one person, ONE SINGLE INDIVIDUAL, can ruin the reputation of a business and mess it all up for everyone else. I am appalled at how rude and entitled she was on the phone with me. But I think the most important thing a business can always offer is good customer service. Unfortunately, this particular employee really took it upon herself to talk as if she were the owner of the property. She felt so entitled to talk down to me. She wasn't even trying to take the time to listen to what I had to say, kept talking over me, I felt like I was talking to a toddler! Trying to get a word here and there. When I asked her if she was the owner of the place, she def started cooling off, she knew what she had just done. I asked to speak to the manager and she couldn't even get me on the line with him. Well how embarrassing right? After she just went all off on me as if she owned the property. Had no words literally, she was listening now. Now that I had requested to speak to her supervisor. Assuming that one can't pay rent is ABSOLUTELY not okay. Talking down to someone because they have not paid rent is NOT OKAY. Assuming things without verifying and being able to back them up is most certainly NOT OKAY! Very disappointing that people like her still feel they can get away with that kind of attitude towards others. Disrespectful. So all I have to say is educate your employees on what good customer service is or don't leave someone like her in charge of answering phone calls. read more

If there was a "0" rating that is what I would give this company. Where to begin? Firstly, scroll down and read the review written by Sandra M. Her review sums it up -- unprofessional, ignorant staff whose attitude towards tenants is disrespectful, to say the least. The building I lived in was bought by this terrible company and once they owned it, the quality of life went so far down it's indescribable. The building was old, in poor condition, and had consistent water issues, mold, bedbugs, and roaches. Rather than address these serious issues, this company allowed an uneducated, tyrannical manager to micro-manage irrelevant issues and attempt to control tenants, as well as speak so loudly that there was no peaceful enjoyment of the premises. "Repairs" are done by unlicensed handymen who simply patch things up and do not address underlying problems. Drains clog all the time, stink and back up, tenants are charged "plumbing repairs" based on "hair in the drain". In fact, there are serious clogs in their pipes that require professional cleaning. Pipes burst, flooding, and units plumbing in constant need of repair. Overall, a wretched place to live. AND...when I gave my 30-day notice to vacate, I entered my bank details on the tenant portal, because there was a section that required it. It appeared as if the deposit could be refunded directly to the bank account. I did NOT provide my forwarding address, at my own discretion, given the poor experience with this company, wanted to limit further contact with them. Moved out April 30th. May 16 got a document stating amount of refund. Nothing to indicate when the refund would be issued, and where it would be sent. Made the mistake of phoning to get details. As usual, the response was unprofessional. Was told "deposits never go back to bank accounts", "Ive never seen that on the website", "no one has ever called to tell me this," SMH. The idea of saying, "Oh, ok, let me provide you with the details you've asked for", I had to listen to all that. Finally, was curtly told "a check was mailed out on the 16th." Here's me waiting for an address. Nothing. When I asked where it was mailed, answer was "to you last known address." Had to say, And, where was that? (Hint: would have been THEIR property!). Then was "lectured" about putting in a change of address and how that would cause the check to be forwarded to me. "You did put in a change of address, didn't you?" Never once said, sorry our website instructions made it appear you could get your deposit back into your bank account, sorry we sent the check back to our property, knowing you do not live there anymore. Never occurred to them to notice no forwarding address and email me to say, Hey, maybe you forgot to list it on the website form, so give it to us so we can mail your check there. Never once acknowledged that mail forwarding is not guaranteed or efficient. DID say I could have a check number. Huh? What good does that do me? Other than to make me realise that if this check does not get forwarded, or gets lost, it will most likely be up to ME to resolve the issue, because after all, NO ONE has ever told them there is a space on their website for bank details when you are putting in your notice to vacate. Mind you, I got an email from their computer stating clearly the bank details had been received during the move out notice process. Mind you, also got a message saying Your request cannot be processed at this time. An absolute mess -- technology that is unreliable and customer service that is unprofessional. Well, at least it all harmonises well, I suppose. Meanwhile, nothing to do except hope the Post Office will kindly forward my deposit refund. Word of advice: if you are a senior on a fixed income, and need a place to live, DO NOT rent from SD Apartment Brokers. Be patient and keep searching. Moving here will only bring you down into the gutter. Sadly, SD rents are extortionate and its difficult to find a decent place at a good price. And there is the claim that there is a housing shortage (no, there's a shortage of affordable housing). However, that does not mean tenants should be treated badly, or buildings not kept in good repair. HINT: Despite the flowery 5 star reviews which don't say much at all, do take time to read the 1-star ones, because those all give details about the terrible experience tenants have with this company. read more

We had a 3 great years in a property in Point Loma managed by SD Apartment Brokers! We had few issues but the ones we had were big - a broken hot water heater and an A/C that went out! Sandra was always available via text and we had someone at the house the very same day! If she was every going to be out of town, we were notified and if that was the case, Peter was readily available. The owners were amazing too! They upgraded the master shower with a glass enclosure and basically let me treat the home as my own. I planted a garden, put in a security system, hung TVs, etc. and of course I patched each and every hole as a good tenant should. And when it came time for me to purchase a home, they were excited for me and even gave me contractor referrals when I needed a few projects done. This is a great management company! I was so lucky to work with Hang from San Diego Apartment Brokers when they were the property managers and I was a resident at Canyonside in San Diego. She was always very honest and responsive to any concerns that my neighbors or I had. There was once a weird noise coming from the pipes in the garage and it took a couple of weeks to figure out what it was, Hang rushed over early in the morning once to make sure she can hear the sound to help figure out what it was. And they got it fixed! Hang is very professional with great open communication. As a renter she was amazing so I am sure an Owner would be even more thrilled to work with her. I have been renting from San Diego Apartment Brokers since 1995. They are, by far, the most attentive managers I have ever dealt with. If something breaks in my apartment, they immediately send someone to repair it, if it's an emergency. If it's not an emergency, they usually get it done within 24 hours. I've checked around for different rents in my area and San Diego Apartment Brokers seem to be at least $100 cheaper than everyone else. They communicate effectively of what is expected as a tenant. If there is an emergency in the building and they have to shut off the water or electricity, they always either leave a notice or text me. I love that I can pay my rent online, so I don't have to remember to write a check every month. It is automatically deposited into their account. read more

3060 Suncrest Unit 1. Material misrepresentation. When touring the unit there was a loud noise emanating from a machine on the back patio and into the unit. I asked about it and was assured that it was rarely on. We moved in to find this machine that sounded like a car or a leaf blower revving up and down outside was on intermittently 24 hours a day. It turned out to be the water pump for the building, so it vibrated loudly through our walls any time someone in any unit used any amount of water. This sound made working in my office impossible and sleeping a challenge. We asked about potential solutions but management refused to do anything about it and gaslit us. We took decibel readings and found that it was breaking San Diego municipal code. We presented this finding to management and they let us break our lease without penalty, thank God. All of this is in addition to the dirty state of the apartment, leaky windows, and termite feces everywhere when we moved in. When doing our move out inspection I was told it would only need "touch up paint and light cleaning". We spent hours cleaning before we left and quite frankly left the apartment better than when we moved in, so I wasn't expecting much off of our deposit. They took $200 for paint and $140 for cleaning. We were only there for a month and only hung a TV and one shelf, so I'm not sure how those charges ended up that high. Half of the items that they ended up painting weren't addressed during the walk out, so I guess they just wanted to add some paint work on and find the most expensive cleaning service they could while they had our money at their disposal. I would love to refute the frivolous charges but it's not worth our time (which I'm sure they anticipated) and we just want to be done with this nightmare company. I can't believe I forgot to update this review. Well months after I contacted a lawyer I won the lawsuit, got to remain in my apartment and the apartment guidelines were changed to allow kids to once again play freely. I was happy to see them playing outside again and even got some award money out of the deal. Needless to say that apartment broker company was soon after replaced by another company which made some improvements. So in the end everything went well and justice was served. I have since bought a home and would recommend those apartments to others especially for the location. Moral of the story? don't ever let yourself be victimized by some bully apartment manager/broker company and stand up for your rights! and I'm done. read more
