Great place to buy a Subaru - especially if you're shopping around used. I walked out with a 2013 Subaru STI at a great price. They replaced all the major parts at 95k miles such as the timing belt. Marcus was especially helpful and provided both CarFax AND an AutoCheck full report. Car was well maintained throughout the life span and was serviced every few months. Marcus recommended that I brought my own mechanic and so I did. The STI being a used car wasn't perfect cosmetically (which is OK for an 8 year old car!) but everything seemed to check out - my mechanic used an advanced OB2 scanner and found out that they weren't hiding any code sensors. Brake pads weren't amazing, but rotors were still in good shape and Marcus offered his mechanics to get that replaced. Fred seems like a very knowledgeable mechanic when it comes to working on Subarus as well, and they were all very welcoming and transparent throughout the transaction. I'm typically very hesitant and on my guard about buying a used performance car, however these guys seem to really specialize in the niche of performance vehicles - and I'd highly recommend checking them out if that is what you're in the market for. Also wanted to note that they are only looking to work with serious buyers - if you're window shopping and just want to test drive a car for fun, this place might not be for you. They offer financing but for older vehicles, you may want to look at Credit Union pre approvals from places like Mission Federal and Navy Federal CU. They sent plenty of photos prior, but in person, the car was a mess. When you think of a shady used car lot, this is the place you're thinking of. Stay far away from here, they misrepresent their cars and lie through their teeth. The owner Chris lies as much as it takes to get you to buy his cobbled together cars, he's completely full of shit. Every single time I asked him simple questions about the car, his answers changed and his lies were even further embellished. Just because these cars have clean titles doesn't mean they are in clean or even fair condition. Most of the cars on the lot are pieced together, and repaired as cheaply as possible. The inspection I had done on the car I was interested in revealed a lot of huge problems that Chris called normal wear and tear, including some really poor body work that even Chris said looked like shit. Chris will go back on his word at any given opportunity. If it was this bad just trying to buy a car from him, I can't imagine how bad the actual buying process would be, or if I had an issue with the car after purchase. BUYER BEWARE! read more

Was in the market for a new Subaru, finally came across a 09' WRX Hatchback that caught me eye. I came to the lot and was astonished at the selection of WRX's and more. Subaru Heaven. I had Shawn help me during my purchasing process very helpful from the beginning. Let me know everything about the car, and Subaru's in general, with this being my first. Everything went smooth, 2 months later the car is running great, a few mods here and there to my fitting and I am incredibly lucky to have found this specific WRX. I was told if any problems arise bring it down to the shop because they do maintenance on site as well. Absolutely everything about this car is awesome, and the things that weren't perfect, Chris offered to fix them for me or send me parts so that it could be fixed...who does that any more?!? These are the kind of people that make buying a car and absolute joy, so go to SD Auto Club and enjoy the sweet boosted joy that comes from a Subaru. Bought a used car from here a couple months ago. When we purchased it, they said the car was in great shape for the mileage, the engine had passed compression and leak-down tests and had no real issues. Unfortunately, we took them at their word. Shortly after buying the car, we took it to a dealership to see what kind of deferred maintenance was needed. In doing just their general inspection, the dealership informed us there was a leak in the head gasket that would be roughly the cost of the car to repair. Either San Diego Auto Club was just straight up lying about the car, or they are incompetent when it comes to diagnosing engines. Take your pick but neither are good. I would avoid this place like the plague. read more

I drove all the way from LA to see the car and they had everything ready to go for me. They aren't like your average dealer. They don't push you to buy anything from them or out you in any situation you don't want to be in. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE!!! I bought a Subaru STI from them less than a year ago. The motor failed a compression test, I did the regular maintenance and drive it conservatively prior to this point. While pulling the motor out we discovered these guys swapped a non-sti motor in. The turbo was also off of a WRX. They put the STI parts on it to make it look like a STI but it was a half running WRX motor and WRX turbo. Save your money and go somewhere else!!! Trust me, you will end up with issues purchasing from them. I am gaining nothing from this review. I just want to prevent someone else from losing several grand $$$ read more

Stay away! Save your money. Save the head aches. The stress. I should have listened to the reviews and businesses around this place. Sean was constantly in contact with me before I purchased the car. I told him I had been screwed over by a dealership before and he promised he was not like that. The car seemed fine after checking it out and I was assured I would be assisted if any issues were to come up. Within a week I had to have the car towed because the belt for the P/S was incorrect and came off. $150 right there. Within a few days after the CEL came on. Diagnostics $85. Threw four codes. Had to spend $300 to replace the secondary air pump. A week later its leaking coolant everywhere. Another $100 to fix the faulty hoses. Through out this ordeal I constantly was attempting to contact SD Auto Club and Sean/Omar. Leaving messages. Never got back to me. They finally call me in to pick up my tags and then attempt to charge me more because the tags were 12$ more than expected. Are you kidding me? Oh yeah, the car is in the shop currently because now its misfiring. Over $1000 spent out of my own pocket after owning the car only one month. Stay away from this place. They will rip you off. A few people have emailed me for proof. message me and I will provide texts with no response, left messages, and invoices. read more

Had the pleasure of purchasing my first WRX from Sean down at the SD Auto Club. Buying my first subi I was apprehensive about buying it secondhand but figured I could save some money. I got a 2008 Wrx and it's a blast. The car had 70k miles and the motor had been completely rebuilt. Was in break in period when buying it, drove it a few hundred miles came back and they changed the oil out and sent me on my way. Also got to meet Chris who works on the cars . Super knowledgeable and got me running cherry. All in all a great experience and look forward to upgrading to the STi and will be doing so right back here at the SD Auto Club. read more

First of all i love when a business is family operated. I bought an 08 impreza sti from Sean (owner) that had 155k miles. The car has a lot of miles and showed some minor problems after i bought it. I signed as-is papers before i buy the car, so they are legally not responsible for anything after i bought the car. But they helped me a lot and for Free! Although the problems appeared after i used the car for a while. The guys who work there all have subies and they really love what they work on. I highly recommend buying a subie/mitsu from there. The place not look like a dealer but I learned to never judge a book by it cover. Again those guys are amazing and as long as you are straight forward with them expect them to be the same. read more

- THIS PLACE IS CALLED THE SAN DIEGO AUTO CLUB. I had a hard time finding it on Yelp because of the different name they have listed here. I wouldn't be surprised if the confusion was done purposefully to steer people away from reviewing them - When I stepped in the dealership, nobody really paid me no mind for a while until this one fellow asked if I needed help. I asked about a specific car and he told me a few things about it including the price and the fact that it had a rebuilt engine. He left me alone after he told me to go check it out. After taking a look at the car, I wanted to know more so I went inside the office to find the sales person. The salesperson gave me a price $1000 higher than the other guy, and said something to the effect of: "You've got to be crazy if you think I'ma sell it for that price." No apologies or anything. He said the price was firm and he'd rather wait for somebody to pay that price than to waste his time (he didn't even offer me the $100 off that you get when you mention their online ads). When I asked about the rebuilt engine, he also said that he wouldn't show me the records until after I came with the cash. I was also very skeptical in the maintenance, because the engine bay did not look very clean. Fluids were low and components showed a great deal of age. He wouldn't do anything to offer any assurance. Oh by the way, since the car had over 200k miles, I needed cash because no bank would finance a car with such high miles. No moving forward without cash in hand I suppose. I'll admit that they do got a good amount of hard to find Subarus in stock for semi-reasonable asking prices (higher than kbb but not ridiculous like some other folks when selling Subarus). The money isn't so much the issue. It was the fact that the sales person was so unapologetically thirsty for your money. He didn't even offer to let me test drive it. And I didn't ask because they would have had to move at least 10 cars just to get that car out of the spot it was parked in (the lot is very small). Overall, I'd advise folks to stay away. I'm giving the place 2 stars instead of 1 because some of the other employees seemed nice. But they're in the business of fixing cars to resell them for market value. I saw one of the cars they just got in and it was a bucket, straight up. Not to say it didn't have potential, but you could tell they got it for super cheap. Since the salesperson was so disrespectful and money hungry, I wouldn't be surprised if they cut a lot of corners to make the car only presentable enough to sell, but will break down on you shortly after leaving the lot. read more

Apparently they forgot to mention the transmission had been replaced in a mediocre way (missing bolts and parts) Additionally, the car was COMPLETELY missing tire sensors. Found all of this out since I took it in to get inspected (Ended up racking a 3000 bill). The man who sold us the car denied the car had a replaced short shifter (which it did). Previous owner burned out clutch apparently and had some monkey replace it. read more

I've bought 3 cars from them one 08 wrx one 08 sti and a 2014 evo x all have been great cars and they always give a helping hand if you are to need it as far as if they will help you if you come across an issue you can count on it but used cars are used cars u can't expect perfection they have plenty of great cars on there lot I no I've bought 3 of them now and if it was shitty customer service I don't think I would have gone back but all and all the service is great it's a family owned business I've referred a few friends to them and all of them have had a great experience I usually deal with Chris's or Shawn when I go and both of them are straight forward and honest guys they point out stuff that might need to be fixed on a car if you were to get it all in all they get 5 stars from me I would definitely go there for a few more cars can't stop adding to the collection read more

So first off they told my husband they would do a trade in and give us what KBB valued my husbands truck at - at the end of the day he shorted us a couple thousand. He lied out of his rear end about the car's condition saying it ran great and they "put in a lot of money" to fix it up. I'm not sure if they consider maybe $20 a lot of money but my husbands father has been a mechanic for a very long time and tested the car and it's going to cost us $200+ to fix. The trunk doesn't latch at all and even after buying a part to fix it it still doesn't latch when going over a good bump. Imagine driving on the free way! More than enough mechanical issues are wrong with the car as well. He has to offer free oil changes to get good reviews on here so don't believe a word any of these people say. So I came to this place to check out this 05 white sti that they had only for 24,000 .loved the car and in the add they stated that the vehicle had gone through a complete makeover the engine was rebuild new clutch,new water pump new timing belt and so and so. I asked them if they would give me a receipt for warranty and record purposes of the engine rebuild and they stated "yes we will". They told me the vehicle is stock no modification was done and the engine was freshly rebuild . They told me if the vehicle had any problems to give them a call back . Purchased the car and asked for the rebuild receipt and they told me "ohh we don't have it with us but will email u the paper do". The 1day of driving the vehicle the check engine light came on . Got home and connected obd scanner and found random misfire codes .called and left a voice mail and no one called back . I live in Oceanside so i took it to a near shop and right away found that vehicle was missing a catalyst converter . 2 weeks later finally had time to take it back and told them what happened and they installed a catalyst on the vehicle after sitting their from 8am till 3 pm. Cleared the check engine and told me it was fine .drove vehicle and 2 weeks later found a gasoline smell coming from the engine which I ignored for 2 months thinking it was me . I finally took it to Subaru dealer because here and then I would see smoke coming out of the hood scoop. They found the right side valve cover is leaking oil on to the exhaust and the fuel line leaking fuel due to improper installation. Called this shop again and left a voice mail and no one called back .so I decided to spend money from my pocket ($1,500) ohh because the person that rebuild the engine broke the valve cover bolt on the head and engine had to come out to extract 3 bolts.i just paid to get it fixed not wanting to deal with sd autoclub any more. The point is that after owning this car for 6 months more and more things broke down or found stuffs that r not stock.bad o2 sensors wrong injectors,missing thermostat. Spend a total about 2,000 to get it back in shape. Engine gave up after 1 year head gasket issues . Lost so much money with this car. Sold it to car max as is . this happed 2 years ago ,I just finally made a yelp account .IF UR LOOKING FOR A RELIABLE CAR THIS IS NOT THE PLACE .from what I know they r still doing ppl wrong . read more

Had to make a new posting just to be a decent human being. Since my review got taken down because they don't want people to know what they do here. I purchased a car here years ago and little did I know they swapped all the good parts of the engine I had in the 07 Sti I purchased and the engine ended up going bad resulting in a replacement engine and turbo then resell to get it off my hands. They offered to take the engine back and give me a used engine... set up from the start to make more money off their customers. I went a separate route and got it handled and lost money. At least they didn't benefit. These people will tell you about their "family business and how they are very respectable and would never cheat you out", or "my father passed this business down so I can't tarnish his rep". But sad thing is these are the type of people. Take your money else where and find yourself some reliable import cars. Some ppl get lucky here and some don't. Sadly I was one of those unlucky people. I purchased a truck from this dealership and was told all lies about it. I live out of state so I spoke to the OWNER who told me nothing but lies. He told me the truck was mechanically perfect. Once the transporter unloaded the truck and we finally got it to crank there was terrible motor noise. This truck was driven less than 5 miles and has to have a motor. He also claims to support his military, that's a lie as well. He was told this truck was being purchased for a young man joining the military and the owner said it will be a great truck for him. Well, the truck has been in the shop getting a new motor since it was delivered. So this young man hasn't been able to enjoy his new purchase before he leaves for the military. I wouldn't trust anything the owner has to say. Terrible business!!! read more

I was totally going to buy a 04 subi, but when i asked for the invoice paper, and certified vehicle paper they denied a customer the right to see the paper work. One of the guys said, "i wont show you the papers unless i know you like that." HAAAA. Theyre ripping people off on cars that have damage. Horrible place to go.
