Had a ball drilled by him as a teen back in the 90s, later again in 2012 and then today in 2022. He just drilled my son's ball and my dad's ball today. I've been coming here for the last 15+ years and I love the ease of coming in and talking to the owner knowing that he is very knowledgeable of all things bowling. I came in for a redrill on a used bowling ball. Just set up the ball how I normally do and went on my way. I was looking to get a new bowling ball for my son for his birthday. We went to another shop before coming to San Diego Bowling Supply. Their prices were a little high and they seemed like they were not interested in helping us, so we left. My next idea was to purchase the ball on Amazon (I buy everything from Amazon) and have the holes drilled locally. The balls were cheaper, but it would have cost me $45-50 to fill the holes. Then I saw San Diego Bowling Supply on Yelp. They had all 5-star ratings and many of the reviews suggested this place over Amazon and they are all correct. We had a great buying experience with Bill. He was friendly and answered all of the questions that we have and made some recommendations. The ball we got was just a little more than what Amazon was selling for, but it included drilling the holes and engraving my son's name on the ball. Bill even have is a kid's discount on the ball without us asking about it. To put the icing on the cake, Bill will open up the holes as my son grows for free. The ball was ready for us an hour after Bill took measurements for the holes. This kind of service is rare these days, and it's great to see that there are still businesses out there that still emphasize customer service. I was planning on just buying the ball here, but the service was so good that I decided to buy a pair of shoes from Bill as well. My son left the store with a big smile on his face and is excited to try out his new ball. Highly would recommend for any new bowler/novice bowler. Bill's a sweet fellow who helped me choose a basic bowling ball. Originally I was going to re-drill another bowl that someone had given me but he told me it would be approx $50 to refill the holes and then additional to drill again. Plus the ball was 25 years old and had battle scars. I would be better off just getting a new ball for $71.95, drilled and also inscribed with my name/nickname of my choosing. Which is exactly what I did by his suggestion. He took my hand measurements on the ball, sliding my thumb, index and third finger into the holes. Bill told me he normally would take approx a hour, but due to it being a really busy day when so many people came in to get their ball drilled or such, he had his work cut out for him. I came back before 5PM closing and got my ball and purchased a bag for it. If you didn't get a bag, I'm sure he would offer a box. After answering a few questions from Bill he was able to recommend me quite a few different balls based on my experience and how I roll. He was able to get my ball drilled for me in a timely manner. Along with picking up my own ball I decided to get an old ball restored that belonged to my father. Though Bill explained the ball was 25+ years old and it wasn't worth restoring, my father insisted we went ahead and restored it. My family and I went into the shop and met the most knowledgeable and helpful man, Bill. My fiancé needed to get his thumb hole re-fitted, as well as new inserts for his bowling ball. A friend and I were looking to buy a bowling ball as a birthday gift for our other friend, who is a bowling aficionado. We came in knowing almost next to nothing about bowling balls, but Bill was able to help us narrow down to one ball in ten minutes! "Wow, two antiques in a row!" I just recently started bowling again after a 20+ year layoff. The inserts on my (circa 1993) Rhino had turned from soft and pliable to hard and painful. I was VERY pleased with my experience at this store. Bill, who I assumed was the owner of the store, was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I had recently had a bad experience with another bowling shop before I cam here. I didn't even realize how bad the drilling was from the other place until I came here to get a new ball. Bill knows how to measure your hand exactly right for a perfect fit, look at the oil tracks on the ball to find the best place to drill the wholes, and even give you tips on how to use your new ball. The best thing about this place... if you get there with enough time before they close (don't get there at 5:30 like I did when they close at 6), you can get your ball drilled while you wait. You don't have to wait days for them to drill your ball like other places. Get there early enough and you can bowl with your new ball THAT NIGHT! Can't beat that! When your ball is ready, he has a small little padded area that looks like part of a bowling lane to try out the ball. He will make the minor adjustments that are needed. You will end up with the perfect fit! Also, the selection of balls, shoes, bags and accessories were good. He has something for all levels of bowlers and most budgets.
