Bacon Mac
Chris V.

Even with my lowered expectations, this was still pretty mediocre mac and cheese. I tried the Bacon Mac and could not taste the crispy breadcrumbs at all. Just felt like there was something missing overall. Would be decent at like half the price, but that's what you get sometimes with airport food.

Had to try one of their breakfast mac n cheese dishes. The Mission (scrambled eggs, mac n cheese, sausage, bacon, ham) was a little overkill with the meats, and the cheese had a tinge of artificial flavor, but there was a generous amount of ingredients in there, and definitely no shortage of cheese. It was very filling, the size of the bowl could easily feed two people, I can't imagine that they could fit this into a burrito (which is offered on the menu as well). Service was instant and super friendly, and there were a couple different options for seating, including a bar offering a wide selection of alcoholic beverages.

The place was empty. Menu was decent but slightly pricey. The man at the counter stood around for a bit, then greeted me with an "hola". He looked like a deer in headlights when I tried to respond equally because my Spanish is bad. Like really bad. Which is why I can understand some mainstream dialects pretty well but I won't respond. He seemed annoyed with me once I ordered. I'd say he needs a little more customer service skills. The meals were enough for 2-3 people, which makes the price worth it. The cheese was your usual bland cheese sauce. Normally I would do something very artery clogging on my own Mac n cheese, with real cheese. I can't fault them for adding in a packet of fresh cholula. There was a good amount of meat, buried in the center of the dish. I would say this is a-ok but not the most exciting thing in the world.

Disappointing (non)service. Save your money for a place that wants you to spend it…read more Honestly, I really wanted to like this place. It was cute. The ambiance was nice. The food looked good, but my date and I didn't get a chance to try it. I live in the area and have always seen this place when going past. It looked cool and since it had such great yelp review, I thought tonight would be a good time to try it out. Just got out from a comedy show and we arrived at 9:10pm - it says they close at 10pm so we should be ok right? We only wanted to stop in, get a drink or two, and maybe 1-2 apps. After being greeted by the host, who was very nice, we told her that we just wanted to sit at the bar and get a drink and maybe a couple apps. She said "great!" with a big smile and led us there. While being led there I noted that the place had really cool decor and lighting, felt very cozy and italian. This is where it switched from a nice experience into a really quite bad one. As soon as we sat at the bar we felt unwelcome. There was a bartender there, middle-aged man with glasses and longish shaggy black hair that immediately gave us a "mean mug" type look. "That's strange..." I thought to myself. He did not greet us and seemed pre-occupied with closing the bar, wrapping up the beer spigots etc. The vibe was totally off, we are unwanted it seems. We sat there for maybe 1-2 minutes until he finally turned to us and said "Are you guys waiting for someone?" "We just want a menu" my date replied. "The restaurant is closed" he said, in quite a brusk and rude tone. I looked at my watch. It was 9:15pm. "But it says you guys close at 10pm, is that not the case?" I piped up. "No." he said, shaking his head. He turned his back to us. At this point I thought, lets go to a place that wants our money. I work with customers in my day job and would never be able to interact with a customer in the way he did. Honestly, if you're that way with customers I feel you're more suited to a warehouse job than you are working a bar. "We're not wanted here, lets leave" I said to my date. We got up and left. With people working like that working at their restaurant - save your money and go to some place else with good service. If the bar itself was closed, fine, offer us a table or something. Be nice about it. Instead we got quite rude (non)service. Again, the host was nice, keep her. But buyer beware - if you come during the last hour expect to be treated like you're unwanted garbage from unfriendly bartenders. Maybe update your hours if you "actually" close 50 minutes before it says you do?

It was actually my MIL who told us about this shop after she ordered some vegan and gluten-free ravioli from here for one of our family dinners a couple of months ago. My hubby and I loved the ravioli so much that we made a point to check out the shop ourselves during the Goombahs Car Show in Downtown Willow Glen last Sunday. They offer so many authentic Italian & Sicilian treats here, like cannoli, various desserts and cookies, gelato, a full espresso bar, freshly made pasta, panini, focaccia, cornetti, and more! They even have vegan and gluten-free options which is a huge plus in our book! It's just a sweet little slice of Italy right there in San Jose. The lady who took our pasta order was so friendly, and we were mentioning to her that something in the shop reminded us of something we had when we were in Taormina and also this great Italian cafe in Sydney, Australia (there are a lot of Italians there too!). We definitely felt the warm welcome of this family-owned business, and truly appreciate that everything here is made with high-quality ingredients imported from Italy. My MIL also ordered a beautiful cannoli cake for her grand-daughter's/our niece's 10th birthday that we were celebrating that same day, and it was loved by all, especially the little birthday girl who loooves her cannoli! Grazie mille, Dolce Sicilia!

Due to a serious health condition my friend had a very limited diet and he knew it was going to be a problem. He brought a list of ingredients of what he could eat and we assumed we would be asking lots of questions. What we didn't expect was for a manager named Johnathon to be so selfless. He spent 20 minutes with us to not just answer questions but to act as an advocate on our behalf. Coordinating with the chefs, deep diving into the ingredients, making suggestions and alterations for a meal that more closely resembled a home cooked meal than an Italian restaurant. We left Maggiano's feeling like we had made a new lifelong friend. This wasn't just service, it was a consultation. I selfishly hope that Johnathon is with Maggiano's for a long time and that the company recognizes his intellectual and social skills. I don't know what the future will hold for my friend but the memories created that night are priceless and what Johnathan brought to the table made that possible.

Steven was attentive, friendly, and knew exactly how to take care of his tables without being overbearing. It's rare to come across service this good. Before the meal, we were served complimentary bread and butter. The bread reminded us of an elevated Hawaiian roll and was a great start. (Appetizer) Zucchini Fritte: A must-order. Perfectly crispy while still light and flavorful. The ranch lime dipping sauce paired perfectly. 5/5. Signature Rigatoni D: This is where the service really stood out. The first dish came out looking watery and under seasoned. I brought it up to Steven, who agreed something wasn't right. He quickly brought out the executive chef, who apologized and had the dish remade. The second plate looked much better and matched the photos I'd seen on Yelp. It was well seasoned, loaded with mushrooms and chicken, and tasted great. Steven handled the situation professionally and turned what could have been a disappointing experience into a positive one. I'd definitely order it again. Chicken Francese: My partner enjoyed it, although it wasn't particularly memorable. The chicken was juicy and lightly breaded, and the mashed potatoes were buttery and delicious. We'd probably try something different next time. Grilled Salmon: Not rating this one since it was heavily modified due to certain dietary restrictions. Overall, the food was a 4/5 and the service was a 5/5. Steven provided some of the best service we've had in a long time, and we'd happily return if we're in the area and craving Italian food.
