The bacon doesn't add much protein, but it does add an appreciable amount of taste and crispy/chewy texture that the Mac would otherwise completely lack. The quantity isn't that much but mac and cheese is pretty calorie dense so maybe it's doing us a favor. I asked the cashier for any recommendations and he said any of the meat ones are good, he recommended the new buffalo chicken one. I went with the bacon mac and cheese in a bowl. The food was ready in around 3-5 mins. As I waited to get my food I heard some random talk in the back and couldn't make of it but I suspected it was portion size. Some lady was saying one scoop versus two or three or so. I didn't make of it until unopened up my food and saw how small the portion was. The price was around 11 bucks for a bowl of Mac and cheese and I expected them to at least fill it to the top of the bowl to be more fair for portion. It's a huge rip off! I think this is a must try at the SJC airport but there are some improvements that can be made. Expect usual airport prices. It was $40.70 for pulled pork Mac and cheese, modelo and loaded tots. Firstly, I asked for regular tots but got loaded ones which are $10 as opposed to $6. Besides the server who dropped my food off, the staff wasn't very friendly and welcoming. I think this is particularly disappointing because these are passengers that you may never see again. It's imperative to make a lasting impression. The food was actually tasty. It had large noodles. The pulled pork sandwich had both good flavor and good texture. I didn't sense a smoked smell from it. Good roux and not too thick or runny. It's a decent portion. I didn't finish it. The loaded Tots came with bacon, jalapeño, and creamy cheese sauce. The tots were not very crispy and it was completely overcome by the toppings. This made it a mushy mess unfortunately. But again, it did have good seasoning so I gave it a pass. Good size portion again but probably not worth $10 IMO outside of the airport. Modelo was cold and crisp. Nothing more to add except it really hit the spot. Ambience was fairly quiet. There's 3 televisions above the bar. Plenty of cocktail drinks to order but only 8 seats at the bar itself. I only see myself going once every few times that I'm at the airport though, and I can't bring myself to give it four stars. That being said, my order of regular mac and cheese plus tots was decent. I am sure the food is good, but we never had a chance to experience it. The San Jose airport location is separated by a wooden rail that separates the bar from the restaurant. Me and my wife walked into the bar side and were ignored for a couple minutes while the bartender was playing on the computer. My 18 year old son came over to check out the menu. We finally were greeted by a lady that had a very thick accent. We put in my wife's order and the bartender questioned my son's age, he stated that he was not 21 and wanted to look at the menu. She said she doesn't care and yelled at him for being on the wrong side. We tried to ask her where he can order or sit and she stated again that she doesn't care. I was shocked and finally said that we are going to go somewhere else. She said good and that's when I asked for a manager, she said no, she is going to call TSA, ok go for it. I walked over to the other employee and asked him if she was the manager and he hesitated and told me no. At this point my wife is urging me to walk away as the bar tender continued to yell at us and the other employee. We walked away and could still hear her yelling at him from two stores down. It was so bad that a couple was waking in behind us and witnessed part of the altercation and walked away as well. I approached her during her verbal bashing and told her that there is no reason to be rude. That probably set her off even more. I would love contact from the management team.
