We've been wanting to try San Miguel for awhile. When we arrived, we were promptly seated. We sat for a bit. It seemed like there was some confusion with the staff, but they immediately came out with chips and salsa. They brought a cheese dip on the house for the delay. I have not been here in more than a year. The place has changed/upgraded for the better. There is an outside seating area that has a game area for the kids too. I love as soon as you enter you feel transported to Mexico. It's VERY festive inside. And .... they have mariachis on Sunday afternoons ... ask them The staff is friendly and accommodating. Ask them anything about the menu or the drinks and they will share recommendations. I ordered the pozole soup, it has pork and hominy and the soup base is red. Delicious. My daughter had the enchiladas de mole... it's a very dark colored sauce that is actually on the sweet side but has a spicy kick. So watch out! LOL. My wife had the arrachera plate which had a skirt steak and cheese enchiladas in green sauce. My wife loved this dish... and it comes with rice and beans. This place is great for one, two or the whole family and friends. The back room has huge party tables and they have Full bar... and I mean full. Service was good. Menu has changed over the years. Came in for a quick lunch. There is only 1 menu for breakfast lunch and dinner. No lunch specials or prices. But they do have a small section for vegetarian food. Prices are reasonable. Happy hour is mid week 2-5 currently I noticed. The waitress offered chips without a charge unlike some restaurants which I think is nice and went perfect with some of the queso, that's was on the menu. This place has been in Apopka now for some time and Everything is always fresh when I eat here and would suggest getting the fajitas. I purchased the soft shell tacos this time. They were good but I like the seasoned (grilled) chicken or steak better that's made for the fajitas. That's my go to meal. If your looking for a quick lunch have a seat or do takeout. We had lunch Thursday. The place was almost empty. I had the chile relleno. The eggy, soft coating on the poblano pepper was mushy and greasy. The pepper itself was undercooked and tough. There was a lot of cheese inside, but it was just a big rubbery glob, not really melted, or perhaps not hot enough to stay melted. There was some kind of very chunky salsa on top of the pepper that was quite spicy and had an odd taste like sausage, even though it was on the vegetarian menu. The refried beans were barely warm and kind of runny, like watered down. I really should have complained, but I didn't. Also, there was some kind of repetitive high-pitched beeping the entire time. We couldn't tell what it was. We won't go back. I will say that the waitress was nice. read more

This place used to be decent but apparently they decided to cut costs by cutting the portions, not listing prices of lunch prices and aguas fees as to then charge a high amount. The tacos birria for $16 used to be twice the size of what I just got served. $7 for water with sugar which is their aguas frescas is ridiculous where is $3.50 anywhere else. Whew! Authentic Mexican food that gets you ready to take a siesta! Great hidden gem in Apopka. The food was so so so good. You can tell it's authentic Mexican. We were greeted with fresh salsa and chips as soon as we sat down. We went in about 35 minutes before close and was a little worried because usually the food quality isn't the best. We were pleasently surprised, everything was fresh and delicious. There were regulars in there which was so cool. One person bought rounds for everyone at the bar. It was like having dinner with family. We now have a nice little spot for great food and drinks. The prices are really good as well. We will be back for sure. read more

I thought it was time to give San Miguel another try. My friend and I decided to try San Miguel's after realizing our favorite local sushi restaurant is closed on Mondays. We were thankfully seated in the front of the restaurant where the atmosphere is more pleasant. The server was nice and our dishes came out hot. However, the chips were thick, overcooked, dry and unseasoned. I noticed on the menu they had "table-side" guacamole. We both love guacamole and thought it would be fun. Apparently table-side means bringing you a fresher version of their guacamole to the table. No table-side preparation. I huge disappointment and misleading. The Mexican restaurant down the street is much more pleasant experience. The serving portions were generous. Other than that, I have a hard time understanding how others fining this place worthy of 4-5 stars, unless of course they are comparing it to Chili's down the street. My husband and I wanted to go somewhere local to Apopka where we could find great food and service. We were able to walk right in at 6pm on a Friday night and the chips were immediately brought out. We added the white queso cheese sauce which was very tasty. The server named Jet was so very attentive and personable. He came by the table to check on us at least five times during our meal. The drinks and food were good, but the margaritas seemed a bit pricey. We started with chips and salsa which were fresh and delicious. My husband got the guava margarita and I got the Watermelon margarita. The guava was slightly sweet and better in both of our opinions. The Watermelon margarita didn't blend smoothly together and was separated. I had a Chile relleno and ground beef taco. My husband got a chorizo torta with fries. Both were delicious! The cheese sauce covering the relleno was hot and savory. The torta was crispy, full of fresh vegetables and filling. The fries were cooked well. We finished with fried ice cream which was delicious, but much smaller than the fried ice cream that I've had at other restaurants. Rating from F to A +++ I give it an A +. read more

After visiting the Enormous Teotihuacan Aztec pyramids in Mexico we enjoyed an amazing lunch at an local restaurant right behind the Moon pyramid. Soon after returning home to Orlando a new restaurant open in Apopka called San Miguel's . After viewing the menu I saw the same item I had eaten in the heart of Mexico. I thought I would give it a try to compare against the most authentic experience possible. It was truly amazing and delicious! Since then, I have eaten at San Miguel's many times and have eaten many different things on the menu. Consistency is one of the most important things you can achieve in the restaurant business and San Miguel's never disappoints. The food and service is great every time no matter what you choose. The price are very fair as well. The Margarita are amazing as well I think it is best and most authentic Mexican in town and we will be eating there again soon. The take out is also great. read more

Visited today, the food was delicious. I had the chimichanga and it came with rice, but I noticed there weren't any refried beans on my plate, so I politely asked the waitress if my dish came with beans. She was unsure of answer and stopped stopped a server right behind us and in Spanish he answered her with "tell the puto no". My other guests heard it as well. I was very taken aback. I have further information if management would like to reach out. Besides being called a "puto" I had a great experience lol. We brought The Villages MINI club here for lunch for a fiesta Friday. We had over 40 people with us today and the food, service and a large area where we could all sit together. I was enjoying the lunch so much I didnt take photos of the food but we had carnitas street tacos, shrimp, steak & chicken fajitas. The rice, beans, chips, guacamole, salsa and especially the salsa verde was so good. We received so many nice comments from our club members on what a nice lunch it was. We will definitely be back. We have been in search of a great Mexican restaurant since we arrived in the orlando area a few years ago. We have tried quite a few but haven't yet found "THE" place. San Miguel was relatively close to home so we thought we'd give it a try. There were quite a few cars in the lot with still available parking. A good sign. We were greeted at the door and promptly seated. The environment was clean and the booth was in good repair. All are things we look for. The chips and salsa were quickly delivered to our table and our server, Rosie, came over to get our drink order. The salsa was bland. It didn't taste like anything nor did the chips. I expected some prominent flavor: garlic, cilantro, onions..... something. I also look for warm chips that are crisp with a light salty flavor. These didn't meet that expectation. We ordered fajitas for two, no beans, extra rice. The portions were ample but not the bountiful size elsewhere. There were lots of onions and peppers- a real plus for us. But, the tortillas were 4" size- only 3 in each foil packet. Not nearly enough for the fajitas themselves. Again, the flavor of everything was bland with none of the bright spices we expect or that nice grilled flavor. The worst of all was the rice. We couldn't tell if it had been undercooked or cooked correctly and left to dry out. What we did find was hard pieces in every mouthful. Again, it lacked flavor. The bright spot in our meal was Rosie, our server. She was attentive, checking on us frequently. She was exceptional. So, while we won't repeat our visit, I have to admit that we have set a high bar in our search for our ideal restaurant. San Miguel was okay and it certainly looked like it has a local clientele who are quite happy. Ultimately it was a nice night our with my Honey. And that's a very good thing. read more

I have spent over 12 months in Mexico, specifically Morelia and Puerto Vallarta. In a single visit I knew I found a gem. Drinks are delicious and strong. Food is authentic Mexican style. I loved the flavors. My standard test is a Chile Relleno. It was properly battered and perfectly cooked. A little spice from the poblano pepper and the salsa. We also had a Molcajete. Since we shared I'd rather the proteins be fully sliced. That is a personal preference. The staff is a dream team. Isabella was our server. Please ask for her. We met with the owning family. Great people who welcomed us to their home. This is Mexican hospitality at its finest. Ok i almost at never give 5 stars. The food could be a slightly higher quality. This was a great dining experience! A friend and I decided to try something new tonight and this was absolutely the right decision. We arrived about 7:00pm, at the start of dinner time. We were instantly greeted and asked if we wanted to sit at the bar or dining room. Once we were seated the bartender took our drinks right away along with adding his recommendations. I ordered the classic frozen lime margarita and it was absolutely delicious! The appetizer we ordered, Queso Fundido was good as well. To top this off I ordered the Tortas with steak... this was delicious! All I can say is do not order this if you are even slightly full! I only finished 1/2 of it!
