As a Mexican born and raised in Mexico I can say these are the best I've tried, my go to cuando quiero buenos tacos!

This unassuming restaurant in a strip mall was packed with a wait on a Sunday afternoon! Previously recommended to me as the best authentic Mexican tacos, I had to try it out. There was a 35 minute wait for a seat and 25 minute wait for to-go. The service was fast and efficient. The crowd was families and groups. We order the four taco combo - pollo, carne, asada and pastor and a pollo tortas. All of the tacos were delicious but the carne had to be my favorite. I love the thick homemade tortilla that really held the taco together. It was packed to-go with onion, cilantro and a whole lime (which I appreciated) as well as sauces. We stumbled upon this place and we are glad we did. We were in the area and were hungry, so we looked up places to eat, our search lead us here. When we pulled up we noticed they were not allowing anyone inside and that you could order either by calling in or the makeshift togo window they created. Since we had never been here I went with the togo window. The lady who took our order was so nice and very helpful. We ordered a variety of different things and we were so happy with everything. Total we probably ordered 7 or 8 tacos, a chicken quesadilla, chips, and guacamole, and I believe there was a ceviche of too. When I ordered she had me tell her what each person was getting, once we got the food I realized why. They had each persons tacos together and they were labeled. I think that was a really nice touch. They gave us a variety of different sauces and other various toppings for our tacos. Again, we loved the food and will stop in next time we are in the area. Love the food here but their service SUCKS. My coworkers and I love the food here but often won't go because we know how bad their service is. Wow.. where to begin. Well, it all started with me researching for a nice Mexican restaurant near Apopka. I saw Tacos Don Pepe's and felt like I stumbled across a gold mine. I was anxious to try it out and all the reviews (even though there weren't a bunch) had all left promising experiences. The awkward and uncomfortable experience began shortly after walking into the restaurant. When we walked in there was no one to greet us or even mention that we had to seat ourselves and a waiter would be right with us. I was informed of this procedure after walking up to the register and asking them "do we just seat ourselves?" Which I though was a bit unprofessional, but wait, there's more. We walked to the back of the restaurant and waited for this dirty table to be wiped down so that we may have a seat. While the waitress was wiping down our table, you could hear some of the bickering going on about "you do this", "you do that" and "why don't you do it" which again, I thought was EXTREMELY unprofessional in front of customers. After our table was wiped down and we were seated, she proceeded to ask us for drinks and so we placed our drink order. She brought out our drinks and asked if we had any questions about the menu which lifted my hopes about this place. A couple minutes later she brought out some chips and salsa and we proceeded with our order. (Chips were stale) I ordered the Caldo de Res and my wife ordered Bistec Asado with a side of fries. Here's where the wait became infuriating. Look, I know if a restaurant is busy to just be patient, especially if the food is cooked to order but this was something else. It wasn't until about 20 minutes that I became impatient and asked the waitress if she had any idea how much longer the food was going to be. She replied that she was going to check on it and get back to us. Well guess what, she never did get back to us with an update. Our food came out about 5-10 minutes after asking but boy was it not worth the wait. The food was bland and lacked seasoning. Almost as if it was rushed and they threw quality out the window. I've had plenty of Mexican food before and this is by far the worst experience I've had overall. The lack of attentiveness was strike 1. The lack of food quality was strike 2. The lack of professionalism was strike 3. The servers would sit down by the bar and play on their phones when they could obviously be helping on the floor. There was even one that was drinking a Modelo behind the bar which bothered me. If they were that comfortable with portraying themselves like that on the dining floor, just imagine what goes on behind the kitchen. read more

Lived this authentic little gem. Everything made from scratch, including my favorite green chile salsa. Oh, I wanted to bathe in that stuff. The tacos and guacamole I tried were simple and delicious, but the carne asada lacked the punch of flavor I was hoping for. Stumbled upon this great authentic Mexican restaurant on S. Park St. In Apopka. Took a chance and went inside. We were the only Gringos inside, but felt welcome and right at home. The food was totally authentic and really delicious. Our waitress was "informational" and guided us through a menu we only partially understood. The tacos were great, the burrito was even better! I actually hate that I have to leave such a bad review for this restaurant because I wanted to like it SO BAD. As soon as we entered the restaurant atmosphere felt immediately unwelcome; we were stared at & had to stand for several minutes next to a dirty table waiting for it to be cleaned off. Once finally sat, the food took an incredibly long time for what we ordered, and people who were sat after us received their food before us, even larger parties. We had to ask a waitress that wasn't even our server about how much longer for the food because our waitress never came to the table, she said she would ask and then never came back with an update or even acknowledged our question (walked by several times & did not speak to us). The food was subpar at best; no seasoning at all, burnt, not worth the wait. The server did not check on us a single time after our food reached the table, & no one apologized for the wait or asked us if we needed anything, never offered a refill literally not once. Sat down at Don Pepe's for lunch today. It took 15 minutes before someone came over to greet us. Restaurant was busy but not enough to come take a drink order. When we finally were helped we gave our full order and waited 45mins as we watched others (that got there after us) get their meals and finish eating. We asked to check on our meals and never heard back. We had to get back to work so we went up to pay our drink bill and leave. The owner came out mad that we were leaving and told us to never come back! We made sure to pay for the service we received and per his request I will never go back! read more

I can't believe it took me this long to go here ! I've been passing by this place for several years and never realized it was an open business. I pulled in today after noticing there was a lit open sign in the window. Ordered the 4 taco combo with steak and shredded pork and they were delicious. I also got the guacamole which was fresh and great. The only downer were that the chips were hard and stale . The young girls at the counter were extremely polite and professional. It isn't the nices on the outside and the inside is very simple but the food more than makes up for it. Doesn't look like much when you pass by, but make no mistake; this place has the most bomb Mexican food around. It does get real busy on the weekend, especially on Sundays. But the fact that there's a queue, says a lot. That said, be prepared to wait to be sat. But it's well worth it. The staff makes the most refreshing micheladas. These are the best tacos I've ever had. Since first trying them, I've had what are rumored to be the best tacos in Dallas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles and Tacos Don Pepe's is still reigning champ. Only a little joint in Frisco topped it with their Al Pastor. For all-around taco deliciousness, these are the best I've ever had. I recommend everything. I double recommend the tacos de tripas. The salsas are amazing. The drinks are great, especially the "Enchilada." The service is fantastic. Go here ASAP. I drive 20+ miles each way and it's worth it every time. read more

Very pleasantly surprised. These are pretty authentic tacos with fresh homemade tortillas. The ingredients are good - I highly recommend the carne asada and the chorizo. Their mild salsa is a bit too sweet for my taste but the spicy salsa is very very good.
