Which is why I reached out again when I wanted to do something fun with my hair for my 40th birthday. Since this is in an outdoor shopping center, there is free parking right in front. Although I no longer live in LA, I spoke with Kristie and she was just so over the top helpful in fitting me in into Ken's busy schedule. She was already in Taiwan for additional hair training and would respond to me, going back and forth between me and Ken. And mind you, this is before Lunar New Year, when most people would get their haircut! My day started right at opening time (10am) with a haircut. I gave him an idea of what I wanted and he just went with it. I will say this honestly: I've never liked my haircut this much. Why did it take me 40 years??? Anyway, we then had my hair washed and started with the first round of bleach around 11am, and then touch up. By 1pm, I decided to eat my lunch. I came prepared this time! Quick story: 9 years ago, I had no idea this type of hair procedure would take all day, and therefore did not bring lunch. Ken and Kristie fed me lunch! They are the best people, I swear. Anyway, after a rinse, we did another round of bleach with touch ups. I made it more difficult for Ken because I had dyed my hair a darker shade to cover my greys. I'm so sorry Ken! By 4pm it was no COLORING TIME! Ken started with the purple roots, then added the silver to the rest, with rounds of touching up. 5:30pm is when we did our last round of wash, then blow dry and a bit of styling. After a quick photo session, I was out by 6pm! I really appreciate them both for making this work, especially when I took up an entire day. Ken and Kristie are the best, and I will travel back to LA the next time I'd like my hair done again. Thank you SO much again Ken and Kristie!

So I decided to try this place and glad to say I've found my new hair studio. First off, it gets pretty busy considering it's the owner himself, Jack, with no helpers (once in a while his wife will be there to help out) so definitely call to make appointment first, would not recommend walk ins, even if you absolutely need same-day haircut, call first. Second, the owner is pretty Asian so the haircut is more Asian styled, and that's perfect for me but I'm sure if you show him a picture or accurately describes the haircut you want he's definitely more than qualified to get you what you want. He also engages in conversation with you throughout the cut/wash, and usually I don't like to talk while getting a haircut but conversing with him was actually pretty pleasant, very down to earth kind of guy. Definitely will be coming back! Conveniently located in the 168 Supermarket plaza but facing the street so plenty of parking/street parking.

I had told her to stop cutting so short, and she kept insisting that these were "detail cuts" and not actual cuts. Initially prior to the start of the cut, I had told her in mandarin, I don't want hair too short, because I don't want my hair to curl to the side because of its length, and I thought she understood the task, shorten my hair but not all the way. Chemical Burned Hair and Rude Service - Stay Away…read more I had a terrible experience here, and I feel obligated to warn others. The salon is far from clean--I saw a lunch bag sitting right next to hair dye while I was getting my hair washed, which is completely unhygienic. Afterward, I developed a bad rash, which I suspect came from the unsanitary conditions or the products used. During the process, the hairstylist sprayed mist on my hair without reminding me to close my eyes. When the liquid got in my eyes, she noticed and casually said it was "just water," then told me I needed to close my eyes. The reason I hadn't done so earlier is because she had interrupted my perm halfway through, saying she needed to apply hair brilliantine or some other styling product to another male's hair. She then came back to work on my hair without washing her hands. At that point, I had no idea whether the products she was using on me were meant for me or had been used for other clients. The female hairstylist who worked on my hair was extremely RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. At one point, she questioned why I had a small bunch of hair after applying the solution before my perm, but it was obvious that she either left or forgot that bunch of hair during the process. Instead of listening to what I wanted, she gave me the style SHE thought was "pretty," completely ignoring the picture I showed her. She even told me that what she did was "much prettier" than the look I wanted! To make matters worse, my hair ended up chemically burned. She used a hair dryer and styling comb to mask the damage, making it seem fine. I even gave her a $40 tip, thinking everything was okay. But when I washed my hair at home, I realized how badly my hair was burned. Friends and colleagues kept asking me what had happened to my hair, which was really embarrassing. Before I left the salon, she actually PUSHED me--totally unprofessional behavior. This place is unsanitary, and the staff clearly doesn't care about their clients' preferences or well-being. I definitely won't be returning and I urge others to avoid this place!
