Overall a mixed experience. Location was a diamond in the rough of a fairly sketchy area. Outside seating area was great, until it down poured and forced everyone inside a small, packed bar. Food was okay and drinks were meh. Most likely wouldn't return. In depth review below: Food: I came to San Antonio expecting amazing Mexican/Tex-Mex food but left the city pretty disappointed. The food at Sancho's was decent. The chips with queso and chorizo was amazing--the chorizo really won the dish over for me. The tacos were okay. Pulled chicken was fine, but the shrimp wasn't good. They were also tiny (the smallest tacos I've ever eaten) and very expensive at almost 3 dollars a taco. The tortillas did however taste fresh and really good (as you can see very mixed). Drinks: The drinks were not good. I had a margarita and at 5.50 I couldn't complain about its size (also small), but it was supposed to be spicy and it was not. Half the glass was ice too which was upsetting but I figured if I ordered one of their margaritas on the side of the menu it would be larger/better. I ordered the Spicy Sancho and although a bit spicy was also very small for an 8 dollar drink (I'm used to paying more for drinks but at least get real sized drinks. The glass was also half ice so after about 5 sips I was done. It wasn't that great either. Very disappointed on this front. Decor/ambience: Decor was mixed as well. Outside was really cool and was the selling point for us. Unfortunately there was a huge thunderstorm about 15min after we sat down and so we had to rush inside which was small and crowded. Live band that night was okay. They sounded pretty good although the music wasn't our style. Can't fault Sancho's for that. Service: This was great. Our server was very nice and didn't skip a beat when we moved inside. Overall I most likely wouldn't return. Maybe if the drinks were better? read more

The food was highly over priced, very poor quality and served less quantity than any other taco place. We ordered nachos, bistek tacos, and quesadillas. They have watered down "coke" products. The service was decent, we had two servers, but the lady server looked DIRTY. Her presentation was that of a tattoo artist that hadn't showered in 4 days. The ambiance was dirt and grime. There were dead roaches in the entrance as if they left them there on purpose. As if they were warning new roaches that entered what their fate would be. This is in no way an exaggeration. It is not family friendly. Fee free to get a tetanus and hepatitis booster before going here. Update: To the owner who commented on my post. Thank you for proving to me that your restaurant is pretentious and overrated. It's not that hard to make bread nor tortillas. I was looking for great tacos on my last day in town for work. It is right behind a Taco Bell and at first I thought that the gps pulled a fast one on us. It was a little chilly so we sat at the bar in the back where they had some overhead heating. We ordered four types of tacos and some drinks and were blown away. The chili salt on a shot of mezcal was the way to go. Try the Michelada you won't be disappointed. I am a fan of bloody Mary's and was a little nervous about a michelada. I am now a convert if they all taste like Sanchos version. The pork belly tacos and the shrimp tacos took the first prize in flavor. The carnitas and pollo tinga were close seconds. This is a perfect spot during COVID times or post-Covid. It's very spread out. Wait staff was wearing masks. They have inside seating, outside ground level seating, bar seating, and upper level seating with a shade overhead. The spicy margarita was too hot for me and our waiter took it off our ticket. Which is so kind. He didn't have to do that! It wasn't like a jalapeño margarita. If you like ghost pepper stuff you might be into it. Out of all the small places in San Antonio, sanchos is a somewhere that I continuously return. They can accommodate a group, they have innovative food, and those margaritas flow. By far the best item on the menu is the burger. It's one of the best burgers in the city. Hidden in the menu on the bottom. I never thought to try it until a friend wanted burgers at a taco place. But it is mouth watering!!!! I will say in terms of Mexican it can be a little disappointing compared to your normal greasy meat filled tortillas, and there beans are a bit dry. I would like to think that it is more on the healthy side as I don't think they include lard. Sometimes the music is a little too loud and the forced tabs gets on my nerves, but it's a pretty solid option for a relaxing evening or an afternoon of chisme. read more

Very cool divey bar type of vibe with fantastic tacos on corn, excellent margaritas, raised Sky Deck with a view of the city and great service (see Elizabeth for a good time). This place is kinda a dive-bar that embraces that style. The vibe inside is relaxed, calm, and friendly. Definitely not an upscale place. The bad: I only have two complaints: 1. I'm a rockets fans and wanted to watch the Rockets/Spurs game, which I assumed would be on since I was at a bar in San Antonio. Most of the TVs are on the same circuit so I had to watch Washington vs USC (some other patrons' request) in the first quarter while the Basketball game was entering the fourth quarter. Finally, they switched it to basketball after enough ppl complained....but I missed the best 8 minutes of the game. 2. The rooftop patio has so much more potential and is an underutilized space for sure. The good: food and drinks here are so so so good. Me and my date shared porkbelly tacos and carnitas tacos. They were both amazing. We also had a small order of Picadillo (sp?) nachos, which were actually anything but small. Those too were incredibly tastey. We came here on the hunt for good Mexican food whilst driving through San Antonio. It is not an ideal place to bring a six year old, as we failed to notice "good for kids? no" on yelp. It's a bar atmosphere, and seems to be less about the food and more about the drinks. We had the shrimp balls, nachos with bistec, chicken tacos, and carnitas tacos. My favorite item, hands down, were the carnitas tacos. I hate eating pork, but dang, the meat was delicious. I thought the pickled onions would be a weird topping, but they were surprisingly tasty. The nachos with bistec were disappointing because the meat was tough, and they were served piled awkwardly high in a small paper tray that prevented the toppings from reaching most of the chips. The chicken tacos were my second favorite item; the chicken was flavorful and had tiny bits of pineapple that gave it an unusual twist. The shrimp balls were unpleasantly seafood scented and were gooey inside, which I just didn't like. It was a mixed bag for me...but the tacos, although small for the price, are tasty enough to warrant getting. read more

Sanchos has never disappointed every time that I go. I love that you can get free chips and salsa when you check in (just make sure you let your waitress/waiter know. They have an amazing happy hour. My go to is their frozen swirl margarita for $3.25! The tacos are really good, but my new favorite is the picadillo torta! Sanchos does have live music on certain days. A cool little watering hole just north of Downtown! This little place has a Mexican vibe to it. They only serve Mexican beers. But they've got most of the best beers from Mexico there. They have a full bar, and some food. The food is mainly light fare, and moderately priced. Come here for bar food, and no so much dinner. The service is friendly and fast. I really enjoyed the decor around here. They've put in a large Frida painting of her flippin' the bird which gives the place a great vibe. Me and my husband been here for the first time and it was a NO for us. As we walked in we weren't sure how the seating work or where to enter. Hot, raucous, cheap, and full of interesting characters, Sanchos reminds me of a Wild West cantina set in the modern day. The low ceilings, dark interior, and Mexican-themed decor enchance the effect. All that's needed to fill out the image is blowing tumbleweeds, the clink of spurs on wood floors, and saloon doors squeaking to announce the arrival of some mustachioed villain. Food is affordable and really good for the price. There seem to be 3 to 4 servers at any given time to service the indoor, bar, outside patio, and upstairs balcony areas so they stay very busy. There is a patio area in front and to the side of the establishment, with a open air balcony up top. Restrooms are located on the side patio. Happy hours are Monday through Friday 4-7pm, and Sunday to Tuesday 9-11pm. One gripe that I have is that every time I have visited, open tables are dirty and not wiped down. This leaves them sticky and full of crumbs. Further, although the service is friendly, it's not as prompt as it could be. This issue can be remedied by having more servers. Now, on to the drinks. My wife happily mentioned that she could taste the tequila in her frozen margarita, even though it was happy hour priced. I understood her to mean that Sanchos doesn't become cheap with their pours at happy hour, the way many other places do. Food: like I said earlier, it's really good for the price. I have tried their chicken tinga and picadillo tacos. The tacos are mini-sized, served three to a plate with beans, and feature a delicious homemade corn tortilla. The chicken tinga tacos were delicious... seasoned chicken, cotija cheese, pickled onions, and sour cream on the side. The picadillo, on the other hand, could have been salted more, but all in all was fair in taste. My wife has tried the vegetarian torta which was a sandwich served on a tasty bolillo roll. Finger-licking good, full of sauteed veggie goodness, and the avocado spread has a strong, spicy kick. Seriously, watch out if you can't handle heat. The Sanchos nachos were similarly great... full of refried beans, cheese, pico de gallo, and grilled onions. My wife nearly lost her finger when she and I went in for a bite at the same time. And no cantina worth it's salt is complete without a passed out person. On the way out we saw some poor soul passed out in a greenspace a few feet from the restaurant. Bless you brother! I suggested to a friend a few nights ago that we go try it & she rolled her eyes saying "really, you want to drive all the way downtown for tacos?
