When I wasn't vegetarian, this was my most favorite seafood restaurant. It's a little hole in the wall place, right off 95. The lobster rolls are the best, hands down. Portions are HUGE, and now they offer the luncheon specials all day long so prices are low and you get a lot of food. Even the coleslaw is good! The whole belly clams are fresh and delicious. Got the shrimp roll, fried fish sandwich and the lobster roll. The lobster roll had a lot of claw meat and was pretty large. Unfortunately the roll was soggy so it broke apart into two pieces. It was aight. The fried fish was really good, and the shrimp wasn't bad. It is really close by so we'll probably be back but I think I like Clam Castle lobster rolls better. read more

Went for lunch. Very small quick place... Lobster roll is delicious but should come with more lobster in it for 15$ .. Fish and chips-- fish was fresh but batter had no flavor and would come off the fish. Fries weren't all that.... I need go back to really get a better experience. Ordered wings and calamari with fries for delivery. Everything wad really good, the wings are fried well done, calamari want too chewy and the fries are great. However the delivery took almost 90 minutes and I wish they had more flavors for the wings. read more

Had the lobster roll, filet and clams. The food was great. Every thing was really fresh and they were pumping the food out quick for deliveries. Which should have told me to get it to go. We ate there and I don't recommend doing that. Grab your food to go and enjoy it by the water somewhere. The tables were sticky and I had to wipe them down myself. read more

The food was excellent. I had not had whole belly clams this good in years. When I first saw the place I thought it was going to be either terrible or fantastic. Turned out as you can see from my first sentence it was fantastic. The land were fried to perfection. The onion rings had the right amount of breaking and fried just right. I found this small place right before getting on the highway, so i decided to stop in for a bite. I ordered a lobster which was overcooked and also the Sandbar combo (shrimps, scallops, fillet of fish and clam strips). The combo was pretty good. I would get that again. As for lobster rolls, I wouldn't recommend it. There are better place to get a fresh lobster roll. read more

Sandbar is better than Chick's by far and edges Stow's slightly if only because you don't have to deal with the crowds at Sandbar The wholebellies were plentiful and large with a firm but not chewy texture. Love this place, staff is friendly, food is great. Try fried shrimp platter or the soft shell crab when it's in season. So delicious! Place is very small and noisy so eat outside on picnic tables or take your carry out to City Point just blocks away in New Haven. Don't be turned off by location. I tried home delivery, which was fine. Given the atmosphere on which we all seem to agree, I prefer my chair, TV, and a good Bloody Mary. They forgot to include the dressing for my Caesar salad, but the combo meal of shrimp, scallops, clam strips, and filet was delicious and at $23.00, very generous and enough for two. . Question: Why do places like this insist on putting a bed of fries under the fried fish when you do take out? By the time the fries get to you they are limp as noodles and, well, just awful. This is one of my New Haven favorites! The food is great and the service is awesome. Shrimp dinner has to be my favorite! And the cocktail sauce that comes with it...oh so amazing!!! The fish sandwich is also repeatable! The fries, cheese fries, hot dog...All things I have frequented and recommend. Try the shrimp dinner first. You will be hooked. Seating inside is decent, I prefer to go on a beautiful day and enjoy the outside seating with a water view. I will admit that the view is only kind of great because there is a cleanup project going on across the street. Once the city finishes that project then it will be a perfect combination of food and atmosphere. I have also had this food delivered frequently. It comes super fast and super hot--Just remember to tell them you want cocktail sauce on your order because it is not automatic. This place will probably be more missed by me than any pizza place in New Haven. Only con I can think of is the beverages. The fountain drinks taste watered down. I think it is because of the small sized ice that melts quickly. When I order for delivery or takeout I ask for a drink with no ice and use my own at home. read more

Delivery didn't arrive for almost 80 minutes and when it did, the food was cold and the delivery people were rude. The food is great the service was fast a man talking about the food is clean and is tasty is well worth the price. They bring in the best quality of all the seafoods they have. The pricing is definitely spot on with the quality that is being produced in the food. Besides the seafood. All the other food items are really good as in tasty and it will fill you up well, sandwiches are full of flavor; the buffalo chicken sub, the steak and cheese sub. The fries that go with almost anything complements the food perfectly. The shrimp has so much flavor not to mention how good the breading is as well, a nice and clean looking fried shrimp comes out that really does make your mouth water. The home made onion rings are just to die for. I never really like onions, but these guys made me fall in love with all onions now. Not to merino the home made coleslaw which, believe me is so much better than anywhere ever. The flavor and crunch and texture just make you want to keep eating more and more of it. Not good! Went there on the way home from a work trip, since it would be quick and on the way. The lobster was blah--like kinda tasted like it was boiled in a pot full of crab gills, the smaller pieces were chewy and just not good. I thought from the reviews it'd be a local joint with good lobster roll, nah its a real hole in the wall. I will say that the toasted hot dog bun without crust that it was served on was the best lobster roll bun I ever had--if the lobster was fresh, sweet and clean it woulda been 5 stars :o( read more
