Got a last minute deal online and booked. Great location. Nothing fancy but rates are not high. The gal in the office was wonderful. Parking no problem for me as I have a Mini Cooper but I did notice some SUV's didn't fit in the spaces. AC works great. Took a nap after the beach, no complaints on the bed. Love the balcony. "Basic" may be overstating the quality of this motel. That said, it wasn't horrible. We usually stay elsewhere in Rehoboth, but being near Labor Day and booking last minute, this was the only place available at a reasonable price and great location. The room was adequate and clean. Bedding was clean but beds were old and uncomfy. Towels were clean but stained. The tub was very slippery - no rubber mat or anything. The shower curtain was merely a plastic liner. Bathroom in general could have used a really good scrub and some repairs. I did not like that there was not a deadbolt on the door nor was there a safe in the room. I do not believe the front desk is staffed overnight so it made me a bit nervous without the deadbolt or some extra security lock on the door. The elevator is a bit frightening with a bumpy ride. AC worked fine as did the Wi-Fi. We did not use the pool but checked it out, along with the deck. Both looked clean. The location is excellent, on the main drag and within walking distance of the beach. Parking is free. Front desk staff are very friendly and even let us keep our car in the lot fairly late the day we checked out. I've said it before when staying at these types of hotels/ motels with a plethora of bad reviews - read the reviews and if you decide to stay, have realistic expectations (I'm noting bed bugs are NOT a realistic expectation, although we didn't have a problem). I probably would only stay here again if we were in a pinch as we were this time. However, I wouldn't dissuade anyone from staying as long as they're informed. read more

Just save yourself the stress and trouble of how dirty this place is and go else where. This place truly does live up to the motel name. You can absolutely find nicer places for the same price because this place is as outdated as the mullet is to hairstyles. Unfortunately they are also heavily understaffed but that doesn't excuse how dirty this place is. The amenities are incredibly minimal (had a small "sink" and mini fridge, no microwave) as well as a small bathroom attached to the room. Found someone else's hair on both the sheets and the towel I used on my face . The only perk of this place is the location and that's really all it has going for it. read more

Absolutely terrible experience if I could give this place a 0 I would. The motel is completely run down, the women at the front desk are rude. The room had black mold, carpets were stained, bed sheets were stained. The walls are absolutely disgusting. Our room was never cleaned, no sheets were replaced. The restroom had pee stains on the seat and floors. The shower barley works and had mold all over the tub, hot water worked maybe 50% of the time. The stairwell leading to the 3rd floor was covered in bird poop as well as the rails. I will never ever stay here again and do not recommend coming to this motel. read more

These people were so cool! From letting us extend our vacation a day to letting us hang out with our kids in the room after discovering our car battery was dead! Really appreciate that! Just as a note they still do almost everything by paper so if you are looking for a place on the the Rehoboth strip and it shows no vacancy.... WARNING: DO NOT STAY HERE. I'll keep this story short. My son wanted to go to the beach. So I booked a stay at the Sandcastle Motel. The hotel was run down and the pool was cloudy. This was similar to other reviews we saw on here, so nothing too unexpected. What was unexpected, BEDBUGS. Thats right, we came home and shortly after found out that the little guys followed us home and infected our home. I wanted to inform the hotel immediately that they had an issue. Not because I wanted compensation, but because I didn't want this to happen to anyone else. When I called and mentioned the situation the lady on the other end of the phone said "WE DON'T HAVE THAT PROBLEM" and "OTHER PEOPLE HAVE STAYED IN THE ROOM WITHOUT ISSUE SINCE." The lady was rude, non-apologetic, and didn't care about preventing the issues for others. AGAIN: DO NOT STAY HERE... UNLESS YOU WANT BEDBUGS. read more

Do not be fooled by a decent price so close to the beach. It was dingy and dirty. We stayed in room 207. The beds were just a mattress with springs and not very comfortable. I didn't lay down on them because the room seemed so dirty. My daughter went in to take a shower and one of the towels had a massive stain on it. (SO GROSS!) This is the dirtiest hotel I've stayed at. This was the last choice we had and we thought it was somewhat decent. We had to call the desk to get new sheets since there was hair in our bed. We then noticed a bottle cap under the bed when neither of us drank anything in the room. We found an old French fry under the bed and a strange red substance on the desk. Lorena at the front desk was so kind and worked with my tired and road fatigued self. The rooftop indoor pool and outdoor sunbathing patio was great for catching up on some reading and catching some rays. A real value in Rehoboth and a great bargain for families with kids! This gets four stars, not for being fancy, but for being very good in its segment. A dive no more, the Sandcastle has upgraded to a decent, clean, inexpensive motel with the same great location and friendly service. The location, two blocks off the beach, is still a healthy 3/10 mile walk, but you get parking with your room, which saves not only money but time. The prices are very competitive, with a standard room for two adults and one child less than $80 off-season and around $130 in season. The rooms are sparkling clean and comfortable, like the old Holiday Inns, with good bathrooms and better-than-expected bedding and pillows. I am told the rooms were renovated seven years ago, but they look brand-new, a testament to the fastidious cleaning staff and attentive management. The staff are terrific; knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They made everything from booking to checkout very easy and pleasant. The owners clearly care about their guests and that attitude has been passed down through the staff. There are still minor problems. The free Wi-Fi is very spotty, largely due to the concrete bunker construction of the building. The flooring around the indoor pool is a hazard of slippery tiles, and the sauna is closed. The parking garage and some of the hallways are still a bit drab, even rundown, but let's face it - if you're spending all your time at the hotel, you've missed the point! So if you're looking for a good bargain close the to water, the Sandcastle is a very good choice. I know we'll be back. read more

I have never written a review for Yelp, but after this Labor day weekend at the SandCastle Motel, I feel that it is absolutely necessary. My friend and I were planning on staying there two nights, however I was awoken by bugs biting me in my bed at 1am! The hotel did refund our money for the two nights and after a long discussion agreed to pay for us to go to a lower grade motel that evening. It was a horrid experience and I will not be returning there again. If I were you, check your bed. read more

Considering staying here? DONT. Black mold on the door in the room. The room smells like throw up???? The bathroom seemed clean at first. But while taking a shower to my lovely surprise, I noticed the shower head and curtain both had mold on them. Yuck. The shower also makes a very high pitched noise and the water goes hot to cold all the time. WiFi never worked. When I tried to call them using the phone in the room to ask about the WiFi I learned that the phone in the room didn't work. I asked the cleaning lady for a new comforter. She said they are kept downstairs and would be back with one. This was concerning because she was cleaning rooms at the time that I asked and had no clean comforters with her, so I'm assuming they don't clean them. Preferred view is a joke. My view was half the stairwell. The stairwell was covered in bird poop... not what you want to see when coming to stay somewhere new. And now on to management... when we arrived the lady at the front desk was very nice. (NOTE: they do everything by paper). But on your second day of the stay while at the beach, my boyfriend received three calls from management as well as a voicemail about my car (parked in the garage) and how it was ILLEGALLY parked and people almost hit it. We immediately called them back and apologized, and said we would move the car to a better spot within the hour. The woman on the phone tried saying we also had more vehicles (?????) parked illegally... this was not true. We went up to the room, and a note was on the door which said to call management. We did not because the issue was already resolved since I spoke to the woman on the phone. 10 minutes later we moved the car and left to go out to dinner. When we returned, another note was on the door which said to go to the office. We went down to the office only to find out they had locked us out of our room WHICH WE PAID FOR because of the car issue which was already resolved.... the woman at the front desk asked if I moved my car and I stated that it had been moved hours before. She then gave us new room keys to our room since they changed the keys. Yikes. A message to management: if you want to lock us out of our room for a problem which was already resolved, have the balls to actually speak to us when we come to the office. There are some who may balk at staying at a rundown motel. I personally only spent the nights here so things like the motel itself didn't bother me terribly. The room itself was clean, so far as I could tell. We went for Labor Day weekend. The prices were probably twice what they needed to be, but that's because I booked 10 days before, and it's a really prime location for people who want to head to Rohoboth Beach, or any of the boardwalk attractions. My guy and I came here for a few days on the beach. It was ideal for that. The building is rather dated, the elevator is slow, there is free parking (one car per room), a wild ice machine, there's an indoor heated pool, it's close to all of the beaches and restaurants, and I found the front desk to be super friendly. I heard the neighbors arguing about the housekeeping trying to take a pack of cigarettes, and upon coming down to the front desk for checkout, the housekeeping complaining about the neighbors claiming they were trying to take a packet of cigarettes. It was very amusing. The beds were uncomfortable for my guy, thought I didn't feel it, and the AC unit kept turning on and off, despite attempts to make it go on continuously. I was awoken on Sunday night (three day weekend) with noise of a party or something going on at some other room. There wasn't a phone to call and report it and eventually I did go back to sleep. I'd stay again if I could get the room for a third of what I paid for it. read more

Just wanted to write a quick update. This trip we "upgraded" to a preferred view and king size bed. This was not worth the increase in price. When the spouse booked it I was wondering what the preferred view was since the motel is completely land locked. Preferred view is just of the other side of the building. If you are on the 3rd floor you may be able to see over the buildings out to the ocean, but on the 2nd floor it's nobody's preferred view. Save yourself the money. The room with the king is the same size as the double bed rooms, but there is also a day bed in the corner. This makes for quite cramped quarters. We had to do a little furniture rearranging to make the furniture fit without blocking the door to the balcony. In summary, don't do the preferred view and if you need the king, be mindful of the space issue. read more

This hotel is very run down. I have stayed here in the past with no complaints but this time I was just uncomfortable. The motel is extremely hot with no ventilation or AC. The lady in the front is extremely rude. We asked for extra pillows since the ones in the room were stained! and she was very rude about it. The room smelled fine and clean. The bathrooms was falling a part. Holes in the walls, cracks/burn on the floor. I certainly did not feel clean staying here. My husband and i stayed at this motel for 7 days. The only thing we liked was the kindness of the girls at the front desk, very comunicative. We stayed 7 days and our sheets were changed ONLY ONCE. Top cover of the beds because we got a great expensive deal, an extra bed not to be used lol, was as dirty as it can get. Perhaps never washed since was brought in from the store. Not to mention some continuously nonsense things such as, forgetting to leave shampoo/soap, towels, toilet paper. BEWARE- BED BUGS! We arrived at the hotel on July 7th. The lady at the check in was pleasant at first. She allowed us to check in early. We got to our room- 102. The room just looked dirty. I have never in my life examined a mattress for bed bugs before but I just had this weird feeling. The mattress was stained and disgusting. I looked in the upper right corner of the tufting of the box spring & two little bed bugs came crawling out almost immediately! I went to the front desk and told them that I found bed bugs and we weren't going to be staying in that room. The woman at the front desk made the cleaning lady come with so I could "prove" their were bugs. She didn't even bat an eye when I told her I found them. The cleaning lady saw them and was very nice, apologizing over and over. They checked us into another room and when we were looking at those mattresses, the daybed had this little worm type bug under the mattress. I almost threw up. I went to the front desk with my friend and told them that I wanted a refund and was disgusted. The woman at the front desk had to get permission from her manager and when I went to my room to get my wallet to be refunded, my friend overheard the woman say "get 102 cleaned and then put it back up." I'm assuming that meant they were going to resell the room!!! I asked if we could leave our car parked there while we found another hotel and they said yes. Not even 45 minutes later as we were checking into a new hotel, I got a voice mail from the woman threatening to have our car towed because she said "someone saw you walking to the beach and their guests need parking... that they were gracious enough to give us a refund even though it's against policy!" #1 even if they were filled to the max, they should still have one spot available for the room 102 (unless of course they were planning on selling it) #2 for the anxiety they put me through they should have allowed me to keep my car parked there all day. #3 "gracious enough?" They are lucky I didn't sit outside of the hotel and tell their guests about their issue. The new hotel we checked into knew which hotel we checked into as soon as we told them we had found bugs! This is not a one time occurrence. This motel is known, even by other hotels that they have an issue. BEWARE! read more

There Parking, Sucked because it was such a Tightened space To get out and to get in the parking Areas, that's also why this Motel Was Definitely Terrible place to stay at for a couple days- So basically we stayed at this motel for five days ourselves but the actual motel shower works I'll give them that and yes they gave us nice clean warm towels and warm wash cloths for to shower with but alongside that there Shower space Sucked because of how small there shower was you can barely wash yourself in the shower cause of how Small this motels shower is definitely not suitable for Taller people, you may hit your head if ur tall and using that shower, and the Sink when you turned it on is Started Rattling and making a vibrating noise that was super loud and Horrible to the ears! (Also never going back to this Motel ever I MEAN NEVER AGAIN!!!!) Run down hotel from the 80s. They don't even have a computer system at the front desk! Room was almost as clean as it could be, things smelled fine and the sheets were clean with no staining. Mattress and pillows were old and slighty uncomfortable, but bearable. There was tons of red mildew on the bottom of the shower curtain, but they gave me a new one when requested. The shower and sink faucets were also covered in red mildew. The grout in between the bathtub and floor was almost black from the mold. Bathrooms only supply shampoo and bar soap - so be sure to bring your own toiletries. The furniture was also falling apart. BUT, the location is absolutely amazing - it's in the heart of Rehoboth and close to the beach and the bars. It's doable, but also very overpriced on weekends in the summer. read more

My husband and I decided to budget for our first wedding anniversary. We love going to Rehoboth so much that we knew this is where we wanted to spend our first one :) I was on the search for hotels that fit our budget. Most were out of our price range, if not booked for the weekend we wanted to go. I saw the reviews for this hotel and booked it right away. We were not dissappointed. The location could not have been more perfect. The staff is very nice as well. We got a King room. The room was very spacious and clean. If you're expecting great amenities, look elsewhere. They have the basics and that's really all you need. We only stayed two nights and hung up a sign for do not disturb so we could enjoy our last day. We were surprised the gentleman cleaning the room left a bag of fresh new towels. Even at nice hotels, we still have to ask for towels when we leave upn the DND. We went to the pool twice and it was great. You can tell it's an older pool but, it really was clean. The sun deck is a great addition. Our only complaint the whole time was the parking. The spaces are so close to one another. Be careful! We absolutely couldn't have had a nicer time. We will be back! read more

It is not glamorous by any means, but it's perfectly acceptable if all you're looking for a good deal that's well-located. If you like luxurious accommodations, do not stay here. As the other poster said, for amenities, there really aren't any, but this is a wonderful value for the location and the money. 2 blocks back from the beach, and under $100 a night for our stay when other hotels farther away are at least $50 more. I can't stress how conveinent the locaiton is. I was blown away by the cleanliness of the room! I am a stickler for clean and was impressed which says a lot. Staff was extremely friendly. I was expecting the worst for the price we paid per night. We will definitely return for more short last minute budget trips in the future. read more

Spent an AMAZING weekend at this majestic and authentically medieval castle overlooking the sea. For two whole days, I felt like a Lannister at Casterly Rock. Each room was adorned with a picture box, intricate blue floral bed linens made for a queen, and a private bathhouse free of typhoid and Black Plague! Our 3rd floor penthouse suite overlooked the peasants of the boardwalk and beyond the wall. I even heard a dragon lives beyond Aqua and lurks in the Blue Moon. I would love nothing more than than to live here happily "Ever After". read more

Stayed here 1 night on our way home from the outer banks. It was clean, comfortable, and right on the edge of all the action. Did not use the pool, but it looked clean and inviting, with a small sundeck beyond. It is not brand new, nor a luxury resort, but it is absolutely fine, and the location is great. Front desk was very friendly and efficient. Giving it a 4 to counteract some of the dreadful reviews this place got from others, some that nearly scared us off, but I can't think of what more I would expect from a 2 star hotel. Yes, there were signs of repairs in the bathroom, but don't confuse maintenance with uncleanliness. It was a pleasant stay, and the "Conch Island Key West Bar and Grill" directly in front of the hotel (not sure if there is any connection to the hotel) was a great place for a late snack and nightcap. read more

This was the worst hotel stay ever! No clean sheets, they NEVER cleaned our room while we were there for 4 days,3 nights. When asked for room cleaning lady show up withn towels! For 249 a night this place was a complete,nasty dump. When we complained..everyday... we were told they were talking to the owner..Regan Derrickson, and said there was nothing he could do for us since we booked through Hotels.com. He could have given us complementary nights at his other hotel, or gift cards to his newly opened Nalu restaurant. But to tell me that a room which never was cleaned, we left hair in the sink, still there when they were done dropping off towels. Dripping ceilings, and a pool area with a nasty unusable sauna. What a wonderful place to stay at!!!!....complete with crumbs from prior tenants on the nightstand, a clogged toilet and shower, hairs in the towels, a moldy and freezing indoor pool and little to no lighting in the rooms. Our 3rd floor room overlooked a miraculous parking lot next to a fire department and was amazing to wake to. Walking into the room at first sight, the a/c was turned down to a refreshing 61 degrees. The complacent front desk executives were so friendly and helpful as to ask us to retrieve the maid to fix the toilet when she was already busy attending other rooms. Next year I'll make sure to make this my top pick of place to stay read more

Super location for the budget price.Third floor rooms facing the Atlantic(East) are the best.The desk staff are great.Although somewhat dated and not fancy, the rooms are spacious and kept very clean.Large sliding doors onto a balcony give the rooms plenty of light and an airy, open feel;especially on the top floor facing the Sea.(The West facing rooms, in contrast, do not have an attractive view.)Perfect hotel for a budget stay.Covered parking under the building is nice and secure.
