I have taken my car here for 10+ years to the owner, i have gotten a few calls for the call for more suggested repairs, and it is never questioned. Now my daughters take all there cars to Sanders. They are in LA but they call sanders and make the drive, drop off their cars and pick up when complete. This is the place you should've been going to. Honest, Trustworthy and damn good sense of humor. Long story short, I was shopping for a used car. I pulled into this shop 5 minutes before close and instead of turning me away, they welcomed me in. They spend the next 20 minutes inspecting this car I came all the way to San Carlos for. This family run small business is excellent. They do everything, big and small, for new cars and older vehicles. Plus, unrivaled honesty, after being told by a tire shop more than once that I needed some major repairs on my car. Went running to George (the owner) to be told that none of the things I was told were true. Lots of people (automotive repair shops, including dealerships) use a formula for car/truck maintenance, don't get me wrong, regular maintenance for your car/truck is important. Brought my car in sometime last year so this is pretty late. But essentially they could not fix my car issue which involved replacing a pump valve because the original manufacturer no longer made it and so it would be tbd when they could order it/replace. Good customer service but they still charged me +$100 and after taking it to another mechanic they were able to easily replace the valve no questions asked and my car works fine since. I work right next to Sanders Auto and I feel so lucky for that! It is a great family-owned shop that is always busy, so you know it's good! They are incredibly transparent and up-front about prices and I have found their prices to be super affordable. They always do a great job with my Subaru. I get all my oil changes and repairs done here for that reason. I have never felt like I have been taken advantage of either - they are very honest about what needs to be done ASAP and what can wait. Most of all, they are kind and willing to go the extra mile. Example: I was driving a rental car that had low tire pressure on my way to work. I stopped in, dropped my car off, and they fixed it - didn't charge a dime. Love this place! Make sure you make an appointment for major services though - they often book a week or more out! read more

I'd been having issues with my car for a while, which I thought seemed like a transmission problem. Also I needed the usual routine oil change. I used to take my car to a different nearby shop I won't name, but their customer service was never great and the service in general seemed to slip over time when I went there, so I decided to look for a new shop. Was considering Sanders and one other nearby shop, and opted for Sanders based on slightly better reviews and it being just a smidge closer. I'm glad I did. I called to find out about bringing it in and was told it would be a few days, which I wasn't thrilled about, but also that I could drop it off the night before, which helped me out quite a bit. Took it in, they told me they'd do the servicing and diagnose the issue, and would only charge me for that if it took about an hour or more. Pretty early the next day got a call to come pick it up. They'd done the oil change and diagnosed the problem, which turned out to be the clutch. They also told me it was a quick diagnosis so they didn't charge me for anything but the oil change, which was cool. Unfortunately, they needed to order a replacement and, since it's a pretty small shop, the next time they could fit me in was about two weeks later, though they said they'd understand if I wanted to take it elsewhere. I decided to stick with them, and am glad I did. I dropped it off the night before, and even though they'd initially told me it would be a multi-day job, it ended up being done same-day. The customer service was good, the work was done very promptly and, to my layman's eye, seems well done, they didn't charge up the wazoo for labor and whatnot (like I said, they didn't even charge me to diagnose the problem), and it's conveniently located. Literally the only complaint I had was the fact that, since it's a pretty small operation they get booked well in advance so it took longer to get the car in for the repair than I'd hoped. But that was a minor inconvenience compared to all the positives. Oh, and their oil change reminder sticker is kinda big and not transparent. It's a tiny bit distracting. But again, very minor. All of which is to say I highly recommend Sanders Automotive. read more

Not happy with their diagnose and repair. You charged me $800 for a fuel pump that wasn't needed. Problem still continues. You said that the fuel pump wasn't working. But it was working perfectly. The heat sensor under the intake does not kill power to the pump. But it does however shut the fuel pump off by shutting off the pressure inline to the fuel injectors, from the fuel line cut off to the fuel injectors, no pressure... From the cut point back the pressure remains, and that is what shuts down the pump. YOU OWE ME $800 AND DON'T LIE TO ME AGAIN read more

Thursday afternoon I am driving back from the East Bay when I notice my brakes start to squeal. I immediately think back to 10 months ago when I got new tires and I was told I had about 6 months left on my brakes... Normally it would not be a big deal but in 2 days my family arrives and I am going to be driving them all over the bay area for a week... What do I do.. it is 4:45PM on Thursday... I work Friday... I pull out my Cellphone... I click on YELP Mobile... and type in Automotive and Belmont. Normally the crappy search engine Yelp uses fails at this point, but it actually came back with some results that were applicable... So I read some of the reviews and came across Sanders Automotive... when I say 4 reviews and 5 stars I was a little leery... with little time I called and was able to make an appointment for Friday. I explained the situation and that I would have to drop the car before the opened.. no problem. I left the car at 6:30AM and headed to work. Around 10:30 they called and told me that they needed to replace both sets of pads. The Acura would be ready at 3PM. I said I would leave work early and make it by 5PM when they close. They said, do you have an extra set of keys? I said yes. They said you can pay by credit card and we will lock they keys in the truck. It worked out great and I could not be more happy. While I have never met anyone from Sanders in person, I will now come here for all my automotive issues! read more

I used this garage once on these good reviews and word from parents at my daughter's school. My experience was not good at all. I made an appointment on a Monday for the following Friday. I asked for 1) fix a flat, 2) flush coolant, 3) change oil (I provided oil and filter), 4) check and replace brakes as needed. Drop off was 8-9am. He said he'd call about progress or problems. He called after 5pm and said my car was ready. I assumed he completed the work list, But...He did not tell me until I picked up the car that he had only changed the oil! He explained: The coolant flush was "too complex" on my Passat wagon for him; They "don't do tires"; The rear brakes were "toast" and he recommended I "not drive on them" but he just provided a quote for later work and had done nothing to fix them. To add insult to injury, he charged over $80 for the oil change (and remember, I had supplied the oil and filter -- because I usually do my own and wanted to use Mobil 1 synthetic). The next day I had Sears replace the brakes (in under 1.5 hours, without an appointment, and MUCH cheaper than the Sanders quote) so that my family could travel safely that weekend. Later that weekend, while on the highway, we suddenly heard a loud cyclone sound and grinding under the car. I pulled over and found that the large plastic drip pan under the car had come undone and the front half was dragging under the car. The drip pan had been grinding into the cement and had holes worn through it. The cyclone sound was obviously caused by freeway speed air being forced up towards the bottom of the car by the dragging drip pan. Why did this happen? Because Sanders had just fit the pan in place without replacing most of the dozen (or so) clips and bolts after doing the oil change. There was nothing about this experience that would make me want to return to Sanders ever again - even to retrieve the bolts and clips that hold up my oil pan! read more
