If the founder and previous owner, Stuart Gorelick, was still there, it would be 5 stars. It's not the same and I won't be back. I went in for something simple, and was not given a proper quote. Instead of $250, I paid over $500 for something simple. It felt like a bait and switch. Always get a quote on paper, this is no longer "my handshake is my word" type of business. Stu was a brilliant and charismatic salesman and a savvy business owner. He had his fingers on the current market, and could find get the best supplies because he knew everyone in the business. His gift was listening to customers and building computers specifically to their individual needs. I spent over $5000 on my last custom computer system with Stu. We took our kids there and Stu helped them get the right laptops. As adults, they counted on Stu to solve their computer problems. He was someone you could talk to and learn more about computers. Customers and old friends waited in line to chat with Stu. Sometimes you had to make an appointment! He and his wife had quite a fan club. I don't know how many computers my family bought from Sandia Computers over the last 20 years. Only one employee stayed with the new owners. We used to know every employee by their first name and asked about their pets, families, etc. When you walk into the store now, it feels cold and abandoned. No customers, no employee out front to greet you. The silence is deafening. To the current management, a small retail business often banks it success on it's ambiance and current reputation. Your front person, the one who makes your customers wait alone in shop, should take a course in salesmanship. A person who knows the ins and outs of computers is rarely a good greeter. They need to be kind and patient to customers, especially those who are not computer geeks. I saw seniors looking confused and baffled at what needed to be done on their computers and shocked when they got the bills. You are losing that battle and destroying your base of return customers. You lost four loyal customers who will no longer enthusiastically recommend Sandia Computers as the place to go. That was free word of mouth advertisement. How many others have you alienated? Again, Matt, one of the owners, demonstrates why the company has maintained its extremely high rating as one of Albuquerque's best IT/computer businesses for multiple years. My computer, which was purchased from Sandia, had its fan go out yesterday. The tech who took my laptop in was extremely professional and wanted to ensure I was happy. Matt and I talked over the phone, and he heard and understood my concerns about the computer. I purchased this computer 13 months ago, and Matt is taking care of me by fixing it at zero to a minimal cost. I state "zero to minimal" because he wants to do it under the warranty, which technically ended last month, to ensure my satisfaction as the consumer. I am insistent on paying for the service, while Matt is insistent on ensuring his customer is satisfied. Given the difficulties within the current economy, Matt's act gives me grace while humbling me. On top of that, I use my PC primarily for school as a Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) candidate, and I am finishing my final class right now. I have one assignment due this weekend, and feared I would be unable to do it since I need a PC for the simulation program. Since I would not have a PC, Matt took it upon himself to ensure I had the necessary equipment to continue succeeding in my final course. This goes completely beyond their scope, and the amount of humility demonstrated to me by this company is beyond my expectations for any company dealing with frustrated consumers on a daily basis. As. I said his act humbles me, and I am incredibly fortunate to have entrusted Sandia Computers with my PC ownership experience one year ago. Being a managerial accountant with UNM's SOM and a college student, I would gladly maintain a b2b relationship with Sandia in my professional role if I could change vendors for tagged equipment. If you are a college student seeking professional guidance or consultation on computer, IT, or software needs, I urge you to entrust Sandia Computers. This company remains a VETERAN-FRIENDLY company, offering a veteran discount, making it a point to acknowledge their appreciation for military members. Then they write a letter full of lies to support they 'started' to work on my computer after I just called and they said they HAND'T STARTED WORK YET. Which is it boys? I choose Sandia Computers based on the fact that they have been in business for over 25 years. Little did I know they have been taking advantage of the computer illiterate for over two decades. I took my old lap top and new lap top into transfer some data and programs from one to the other. I was told that the two programs I wanted transferred (Microsoft word and Nikon photo editing) might not be able to be transferred based on compatibility on new laptop. I understand outdated programs. I have approximately 2000 songs on I-tunes and 500 photos I wanted transferred plus 25 simple word files to be transferred. Sandia charged me $250 up front to start the process and said that it was an "estimate". They had the computer for 11 days. When I retrieved the device I was told that the two programs I wanted transferred could not be transferred, so they uploaded a free photo editing and word processing program which I had previously agreed to. They then informed me that it would be an additional $425 because I had so much data on my laptop it took over 24 hours to transfer the data and they charge by the hour for this service. I was shocked. How could they not know approximately how long it would take to transfer the data I requested. I came to an agreement to pay an additional $250 for the service, but I feel I was taken advantage of. I paid $500 and got a word processing program that cannot be edited and a photo editing program that cannot be used. My I-tunes library and photos were transferred, but some simple word documents were not and I had to return to the shop to have these documents copied and transferred to the new laptop. Sandia Computers is misleading at best and probably steals intentionally. I will never return to this business and I highly suggest you do not do business here as well. read more

And at least " 8 to 16 business days" for repair. That's ridiculous. He just wanted me out of there or back in to buy a new computer. Update; Oh a good spray with electronics duster and the laptop seems good to go. And despite the owner's condescending response - the guy WAS surly and dismissive. I was the only one there with him. I have had 4 PCs built by Stu and his techs over the last 15 years. Every time, they have been great! I had my current PC in recently to get a much needed upgrade. Stu listened to my needs and together, we came up with a new rebuild that will meet my needs now and in the future. Doug did the rebuild and called me to keep me informed of the progress. Once finished, Doug patiently answered all my questions and took the time to teach me how to manage the system. Doug was amazing! I added disk drives and upgraded my video card. I compared prices for these components online but buying them from Amazon, New Egg, and other sites, although they were a few bucks less, they didn't include installation and great customer service. I recently went to Sandia Computers to have them upgrade my old Acer. They seemed very efficient and cooperative. I ended up getting a new Lenovo laptop as my Acer was beyond repair. I was informed that they would clone my old hard drive to the new system. They neglected to tell me that not ALL files would be cloned and as a result I am missing files that are apparently gone forever. It was only after I returned for assistance was I informed of this. To me, cloning means an exact copy. Had they informed me that some files would disappear, I would have created a backup disk. They are the experts and I am only the user and I expect to be properly advised. The technician seemed to have the attitude that "I should have known". I had contemplated taking my wife's computer in for an upgrade, but after my experience, I will look for another source. read more

I took my husband's laptop in because I REALLY needed to access some files that were password-protected. (He was unable to do it himself due to some very serious medical issues.) Rather than just tell me they couldn't do that, the guy who wrote down the order TOTALLY screwed it up. (Was he stoned, just didn't bother to listen, or what???) He indicated on the order that I needed a password reset to even get into the computer. WRONG! This was AFTER I gave him the password which he failed to write down, so the guy who "worked" on the computer installed a completely different password. Those files I desperately needed to open? When I went to pick up the laptop, I was told "Oh, we can't do that. You have to go to another place which is really expensive." So- they charged me $125 for NOT doing what I needed to have done and changed a password that I DIDN'T need- or want- to have changed. NEVER going to this ripoff place again and I certainly won't be recommending it to anyone! read more

Steer clear. I took my laptop in for a software service (Windows 8 update issue). After a $75 diagnosis, it took them several days before they got back to me. Their "recommended solution" was to format the drive and reinstall windows for an additional $150. They didn't even know how to get past the recovery screen, which I was able to do by simply googling it. Incompetent, overpriced and ill-trained. Again, avoid this place; you'd have better luck going about it yourself. read more

She had some issues it being slow and the owner/so called tech called her stating that her harddrive, motherboard, memory, cpu and power supply would all have to be replaced. RIP OFF. I took it to another computer repair shop near by and the issue was easily resolved. The real problem was the HDD had bad sectors and lack of resources from excessive un-needed startup items, and malware infections. All of it was repaired for literally 1/6th the cost. I built a new PC, but I was having an issue with the monitor saying 'no signal'. I took it in and paid for them to run a test on all my hardware. They said it checked out BUT because of the no signal issue, the tech said I probably needed a new processor, but because I had an AMD motherboard & they only do Intel, they would have to install a new motherboard. I told them to try a separate graphics card since I had seen on Geek forums about an issue with the on-board graphics. It worked. I got it home and turned it on it was dead...NOTHING. I checked everything and it was a dead power supply. I had put a brand new one in. I had also installed it fan up and when I got it back it was fan down. I called & the tech blamed ME, said that there was probably a static discharge in the box on the way home. I told him what about when you set it by the cash register, what if there was a discharge there. He says "Oh when they're in the case, they're pretty well grounded. My reply "Well then wouldn't it have been protected when I brought it home?" The sata cable to my secondary drive was so twisted in the back of the case that it snapped the little plastic tab off behind the connectors & my 5TB drive, with all of our youtube videos on it, was useless. I talked to the manager & sent him photos, he said he would call back...he never did. The tech had asked me if I wanted the Vipre anti-virus installed, I told him no, I have my own anti-virus. He installed it anyway and now it's acting like a a virus itself and not allowing me to upload programs and it won't shut down. I even tried manually uninstalling it. When I boot up the computer, it's back. So 326.00 paid and I had to replace the power supply, a ruined 5TB 3.5 hard drive, a virus program I can't get rid of and they have done NOTHING to reimburse me for any of this. read more

Took my desktop PC to Sandia Computers in early September 2019. My PC would not boot, even using the Windows 10 recovery USB. I paid $75 diagnosis fee and asked that my data be recovered if they could not fix the issue. On the PC I had tax files, music, video and digital pictures I did not want to lose if at all possible. The Tech who worked on my PC was named "Bobby". Several days later I picked up my PC and was told it could not be fixed and the data could not be retrieved. After a little google research I ordered a USB to SATA adapter for my 3.5 inch hard drive. It cost $19. I was able to retrieve my data and transfer it to a new computer. I am far from a computer expert. Apparently so are the Techs at Sandia Computer. read more

I took a tablet in to be serviced at Sandia Computers. They told me it was not salvageable and that I would not be able to use it again. They recommended I pay $75 to leave the computer there so they could run a diagnosis to recover any data left on the computer for me. I decided to get a second opinion before giving them money. I went to another computer store in town to get their opinion. Turns out my tablet had a minor problem that was fixed in less than five minutes. I only payed for a thumb drive at the other store. I highly recommend going somewhere beside Sandia Computers. Seems they want to get as much money out of their customers as they can. read more

The owner Stated that they can repair my Samsung tablet with a charging issue and they can fix everything and they are the best in the city! The next day I received a call from one of their technicians stating that they plugged it in and it charged fine so I probably have a bad charger. So in short the owner insisted that it takes one hour to plug something in and he will not return any of my deposit. read more

This place is like a used car lot. They sold me a computer with all the bells and whistles. He told me that the great thing about this computer is that I would have it 10 years because I could upgrade it. He said if I ever had a problem just bring it back and they would fix it right up. The truth is it was a great computer but, I could have got online for $400 cheaper. When it did break 3 years later (fried motherboard), I took it in they told me that it would $500 to fix and that I should just buy a new one. I asked if they could just get the information off it. They wanted $75 for that too. So I bought a SSD & HDD docking station from new egg for $20 and retrieved my own files. Bottom line. Everything they sell you can buy on New Egg for half the price. I think I'll go with the the "No Service" Super Store instead of the "No Service" Hole in the wall next time. read more

Bought a new desktop computer from them in 2011. Motherboard and RAM died in 2015. Suspiciously quick, but I'm still optimistic. Brought it in to fix/upgrade. Gave me the hard sell on a new hard drive. Didn't want one. They put one in anyway and didn't tell me or put it on the invoice. Six months later, the new hard drive dies. I return to the shop to ask them to get rid of the new hard drive- that I never wanted and just use the old hard drive. The owner sat me down and talked to me like a child. He explained how I was a thief and that they kept meticulous records and that particular hard drive had never been through their shop. All I wanted was ten minutes of a tech's time to make the machine I BOUGHT FROM THEM function. Owner was more interested in playing the role of a kindergarten teacher teaching a child not to steal. They wrote my phone number and the model of my computer down wrong, so my laptop was there 8 days because they couldn't call me. They also didn't write down to look at an aux jack problem I called in about 2 days later so that didnt get fixed. My laptop said it had a cooling fan problem and they ended up replacing the hard-drive. I'm not a computer tech but that plus the owner acting weird at the end had me thinking I'll get a few shops opinions next time before I buy something. read more

I have done business with Sandia Computers for many years, used to offer excellent service, with the staff being understanding and courteous. This last experience ended that. Not only was the staff rude and inconsiderate but pushy for me buy a more expensive hard drive, ( which I purchased and isn't any faster or better than I had.) Not only was I ignored and treated like I was inconveniencing them but treated other clients the same way. The actual tech who fixed my laptop was very rude, (seemed employees were afraid of him to ask him questions). When I had to take my laptop back because it wasn't working properly instead of assisting me he told me he had to go to lunch and someone else would help me. When you spend over $500 you would expect some service. He left me waiting for over 5 minutes before someone acknowledged me, with a staff of 5 standing around trying to decide who was going to help me. I will never go back to them and will NOT recommend them to anyone! read more

I first took my HP computer in to be fixed. I was told that the mother board was burned out and the computer was worthless. I was talked into buying a new computer from them. This occurred about 7 months ago. My new computer suddenly would not run at all. I took it back expecting to have it fixed for free. They would not fix it for free and told me that one of the hard drives was not bought from. insinuating that I had either installed it myself or had it installed by someone. I told them that was a lie. everything in that computer had been bought from there. They then threatened to call the police on me for being disorderly. I said I would just go and they could have the computer if it was going to be that big a deal. Long story short they stole 2 of my computers. This store is the worst business I have ever came into contact with.I intend on turning them into the BBB as well as the police for theft.
