Very good food and amazing server. the dude serving us had an amazing atmosphere and a great sence of humor.

My husband and I thought we'd stop in for lunch, no big deal grab a sandwich. We placed our order ( grilled cheese and chicken wrap). Nothing complicated we thought. The gentleman in front of us received his lunch finished and left. Then the party of 3 who came in 10 minutes after we order received their lunch. I went up to the counter to ask about our sandwiches and the couter/cook was rude. Told me they were busy and i could cancel my order. After 40 minutes my husband went to counter to experience the same unpleasantness. We opted to cancel and get our money reimbursed. We had breakfast here after being told there was 1.5 hr wait at the Snow City Cafe. We have little ones so a wait that long for breakfast was not going to do. The restaurant is a bit of a dive, but the food is satisfying and the only waitress was trying to be very attentive to the needs of all the diners. Listen, I'll be honest, i'm a very tough reviewer. Throughout my time in Alaska, I don't believe I have left a single good review. Unlike the other establishments I have visited, personally, I believe that this experience was AMAZING!!! I don't bestow that trait unto many. The line was extremely long, however moved swiftly. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, and was elated as I was greeted with the juicy masterpiece about 10 minutes later. This was a surprise, as the restaurant seemed to be busy, however there was no effect on the service. The burger was a 9/10, and the onion rings... get this... a 10/10, being crispy and delicious. Despite the deliciousness food, the establishment lacked speedy table cleaning, making it difficult to find a place to sit. Additionally, a bathroom can not be found on the premises, so you should prepare yourself with either a sanitizer or wipe before you arrive. Overall, this restaurant is an amazing opportunity, and I would go out of my way to come back here if I were to return to Anchorage. Thus, my review it a split 9/10. Amazing job. read more

Had the full plate of biskets and gray. The gray was good and had a kick to it. The biskets are soft and tasty. Over all the food us very good The place is about aveage size when it comes to seating and it is family style. Order your food and then find a place. If you are within an hour then be warn. Like so many of the other reviewers, we came here because the wait at Snow City Cafe seemed excessive. Let me just say, there is a very good reason why there is a wait next door and this place is mostly empty. It was terrible. I got the special: "Halibut" fish and chips. The fish was processed squares and completely over deep fried. It was so dry I actually had to put ketchup on it just for some flavor. Next time we will wait for a table next door. Eke! Horrible!!! I was highly attracted by their picture of the King Crab Omelette picture on their window as we were walking to Snow City for breakfast! *My omelette, hash browns, and toast were COLD!! I asked the waitress if they could heat it up in the microwave, and the Asian lady made a fuss about it, but warmed it up for me.. it was still not warm enough!! I just tried their salmon burger today and it is really, really good. I figured it would be a salmon patty with all kinds of fillers in it but it appears to be a preformed hunk of pink salmon. I know that description doesn't sound good, but it is. It's a hunk of flaked salmon that appears to be crispy, pan-fried with a really thin crust. It has a flawless smoky flavor too. It's served on a toasted bun with tomato, onion, lettuce and pickles. I wanted to jump up and run to the counter and ask them, "what the heck is this ? how did you cook it ?" so I could do it at home but the place was crowded. The cost of it with fries and med. drink was $11 and I agree with Taughnee, that's expensive too but sometimes you just don't want to deal with wait staff and stuff...and you will pay for convenience. What an unorganized mess. The guy at the counter didn't seem to know too much nor did he seem to care to know. I paid $1.50 for toast and it was one piece of bread lightly toasted and dry. Stepping into the Sandwich Deck is like stepping into a time warp. They serve "Good Old American Food." Which lets face it, isn't all that healthy, but it does serve its purpose. I got a chesse burger it was reasonably priced with some fries ($6.50). The service was excellent. The burger was good. The ambiance is like an old school diner. As someone who works a block away, the SD will always be someplace fun and relaxing to go to. I will save my "wheat grass shake" and my "tofu lunch" for other restaraunts. The Sandwich Deck is just around the corner from my office. I love their California Burger and appreciate the consistency of my lunches there. Lots of windows. Friendly staff. This place is good, classic diner with your options of breakfast plates, sandwiches, and burgers. I got the pastrami that was really good, but took a little extra time and my husband got the bacon cheeseburger that he said was good, it seems to be pretty poplar among the other customers. A great, "greasy-spoon" diner in Anchorage. Came here after the tourist-filled place down the block told us it was a 45-minute wait. Glad we did. Crowd felt more local. Learned the operating procedure here: order at counter; pay; get soft-drinks from self-serve station (if needed); sit at any open table and display plastic sign with a number on it that indicates your order; wait for food to be delivered by waitress. Had a great breakfast for a very fair price. Nice, large windows give it great light and views of the street scene. The restrooms are outside, down the block, with a combination code listed on the door, and are also frequented by bums and other randoms, so that's a bit of a downer, but otherwise this place is fab to grab a hearty meal. read more

When a restaurant has the word "sandwich" in its name, it's advisable to order a sandwich - which is what I did. My spouse, on the other hand, ordered the halibut and chips, which I tasted and found overly greasy. My sandwich was comprised of a pre-formed, deep-fried patty of ground halibut meat which, by comparison, was delectable. Just be forewarned that in neither case is fresh halibut used. read more

Very quick service and friendly staff. The burgers are definitely their best quality offering. It's a basic sand which and fries joint, and does it fairly well. Great food and friendly service. I got the chili burger, with no cheese. It was amazing. The chili was made from scratch, and the chili burger was served open faced. I got delicious French fries with the chili burger. I asked for and got tarter sauce too. I also got a tasty house salad. To drink, I love pop, so I got a Mountain Dew. The customer service was great too. Their processes seemed to flow. They have a really nice, friendly lady who took my order. A couple cooks in the back working hard, making good food, and having a good time. It seems that food cooked by people enjoying themselves seems to come out better. I liked the atmosphere which is why I am rating Sandwich Deck 3 stars even though I never got to try it. I attempted to order a very simple thing hoping that they practiced kitchen triage. A staff member informed me the wait would be about 30 minutes for one takeout order of gravy on biscuits. Kitchen triage helps the customers not stack up and everything runs much more smoothly. I would not have even left this review if Sandwich Deck would have replied to my message to them privately. read more
