I was told that I could still get it because the lady I spoke to got in contact with somebody for the morning shift she gave me the name of the person I could ask to. I went the next morning and the lady recognized me and asked me what time I wanted the order for. I told her 5pm and she told me that it would be best for me to order it at 4:30pm. When the time for me to order arrived, the person on the phone told me the sale was over. I tried to explain the person on phone what the other people told me and she put on hold. On and off I was on hold for ten minutes so I just decided order a combo. I was told it was a 35 min waiting for the chicken. I gave them 40-45 mins and the food was still not ready. But I was immediately greeted by the staff behind the counter. I definitely recommend stopping by this restaurant. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner! The food behind the glass (hot bar) looks extremely fresh. The staff works together and are very consistent when it comes to catering to their patrons. Family friendly, date worthy place. Wow read several bad reviews about Sandys but our experience, on the other hand was good for lunch. Looks like it was newly renovated and appeared to have new owners. We were here many years ago which is the reason we decided to return. We ordered several dishes- see photos. Jess the waitress quickly took our order. The 3 empandas arrived pretty quick and were nice and hot and tasty. The rest of our took a little longer than expected but wow definitely worth the little wait. Super fresh ! My wife's entree was slightly different than mine. Steak was salty and a bit chewy but everything else was good. We had so much food that we took some home. Absolutely delicious hands down. Decided to a local spot that had always been a neighborhood gem. The food was the same quality as before but did the job a filled me. The shrimp in garlic was great but the rice was a bit too moist. The chicken was good for my partner but did not enjoy his rice as well. We enjoyed our drinks while we chatted. The service was good here and our waitress was attentive and friendly. Not a place we would frequently visit but glad to revisit an old favorite with may locals that come to eat here as well with a full ok bar to sit at as well. read more

I have never complained about their food but there is a disconnect from the community that has supported them over 40 years. My mother would bring me as a child I'm 43 now. My last 2 experiences have been very disrespectful. I have waited 15 min or more just till a person would come to a table. While there are no other people even eating. Last night, my partner and I were looking for some authentic Puerta Rican cuisine. The original place we wanted to go to was closed for whatever reasons. My partner suggested Sandy, being she is Puerto Rican, grew up in the neighborhood, and her dad used to take her here all the time in the 90s early 00's. We got there and decided to go with the combo #5. When she told the server we were choosing to stay instead of leaving the we were told the price shown wad for Togo orders.. That went from something like $35 to $70 that should have been my first and only which we had to pay upfront before even sitting down... but being my partner wanted to come here based on childhood, I ignored my gut... bad idea... The portions weren't worth the coat, the steak was dry as hell, and the Plantines were cold as anything. The server kept hovering and asked if everything was ok.. my partner said no and that the plantings were cold.. The server said "oh it must be the AC." we rolled our eyes. The server came back after 10 or so minutes with fresh ones (which were actually good being they were freash). In the end, my partner was asked again if everything was alright. My partner replied in Spanish no, it wasn't said the steak was cold and we weren't happy. The server then tried to blame us for the horrible food by saying "oh you should have said so in the beginning. Long story short, the experience felt like a bait and switch... my partner felt horrible for having us come here all the way from Central Queens for a bad experience. Her dad passed away a year ago, so she said she didn't have her dad anymore for what's good in the neighborhood anymore. It's not bad and a decent option for cheap, fast Dominican delivery on the UES. An entire rotisserie chicken is only $11 and it is nicely cut into serving size pieces (it's the little things!) and pretty tender with a nice crispy skin. This was the best sandwich i ever had in my life and I'm OLD and have travelled all over the world. I was walking by and was not going to stop but it smelled so good i went in. I got the Pernil sandwich. The bread was fresh and perfectly toasted, the lettuce was crisp and the pernil was AMAZING. Perfectly seasoned and roasted just right so it had blackened bits and tender chunks that melted in my mouth with tons of flavor. Seriously the best sandwich in my whole life. I will definitely go back. I wish i lived in harlem. PS, i also ordered chicken soup but haven't eaten it yet. This place was off the hook. I went to Peter Luger the night before so I was a little spoiled before coming here, but Sandy's hit the spot. Mofongo de pernil was SO damn good. I had my dish with Spanish rice, but I probably would have preferred white. Ummm what else...platanos dulces were super good but that's a given. You've gotta mix the mofongo with the platanos to get that sweet/savory combination...so delicious. The service wasn't amazing...the server took a little longer than I would have liked to take the order, bring drinks, etc. I had a batido de mamey that kept me quiet for awhile lol even though it took about 15 minutes for it to come out. That batido made it all worth it for me. I order from here a good amount. Honestly every time I order I cross my fingers and pray. Some days it's amazing and all my food is on point. Other days it comes out terrible. Beans will be watery with no flavor meat over cooked and maduros are usually extremely greasy or under ripe. Friday night watching baseball, ordered the Roast Pork Mofongo. My delivery was 20 mins late, food was still piping hot . As I was enjoying my Mofongo I bit into something hard but I continued eating, thought it could be a tiny piece of chicharrón. I bit into something hard again and noticed it was a tiny white seed or something. I was curious and broke up the Mofongo, took my time and discovered more of these unidentified objects, plus a small piece of white plastic and old plantain pieces. Lost my appetite . I called the restaurant, the gentleman was nice, but told me they stopped delivering. I was not interested in looking for a replacement meal, but they will give me a credit. This is probably one of the worst experiences I've had eating out. First off we entered the restaurant at 9 pm and made sure to check the hours they're opened on google maps. It says they close at 12 AM. I went off based on this information and upon walking in the staff did not correct it. The food was plain and simple. There was no true taste to it simply just bland. But the worst part wasn't the food but the overall ambiance of the staff. Throughout the meal we were given constant side eyes and remarks. This made me question whether they were truly closing at 12 AM. Around 10 one of the staff told us they were closing and if we wanted our food to go and they needed to "get out of here". She told us with much attitude and when I tried reasoning with her that the time said 12 AM on google maps she once more gave me attitude. The problem with this experience overall was the service. First off if you do close at 9:40 PM, as you said, tell the customers upon arrival about this don't just give them weird looks. But mainly don't kick customers out and turn off the lights as they're leaving this was simply disrespectful. Never Dining Here Again. And now my stomach hurts from the food. read more

I ordered via GrubHub and received moldy tres leches, unfortunately only noticing after my family and I took a bite. The restaurant refused to refund me and when I went in to complain they tried to talk bad about me and play me in Spanish not realizing I could understand them. The rice and beans were okay.
