Truly Truly Truly the WORST breakfast I've EVER had. Don't get suckered by the rave yelp reviews like we did. Wasted $35. coffee grounds in the coffee, which was like bad murky sink water. i really want to give it a 3 star. Went for breakfast Oct 28, Sunday. It was busy, we sat @ he counter as we were in a hurry to check out of Motel 6 next door. Waiter said "It will be right up" Well it wasnt. I had to call Motel 6 and take flack for being late. I stopped here on my way back from taking my family berry picking. We needed food and were willing to stop by almost anywhere not fast food. I was a little worried because it looked a little "Denny's-isc" and the last time I ate at a "Denny's-isc" diner, I swore 'never again.' It, however, surprised me. It was simply American diner food, but it tasted freshly made and left me filling good. I ordered my son a pancake and it was SOooo good I kept steeling bites when he wasn't looking. The best thing about this place however, is the service. Our waitress was great and the owner came and gave my children full coloring books and a box of crayons. She was super kind and I noticed she knew a lot of her customers by name. I am giving this place 4 stars as an average. This place is actually 5 stars if you want a small town dinner experience that connects you a little bit to the town of Gilroy. A good breakfast is hard to find. And the typical places in Gilroy can get old quickly. I love Sandy's Cafe. Great service, great food, and great portions for a reasonable price. Stayed in Gilroy for the night and stopped in when they opened at 6. Customer service was great and the food was tasty too. The woman were very attentive and kept refilling our coffee glasses without even having to ask. We got the eggs Benedict which was delicious. The eggs were perfectly cooked and runny as they should be. We also got the biscuits and gravy combo which comes with eggs and bacon. Biscuits and gravy were tasty but the side of bacon is what really got me. Thick cut and cooked perfectly! I would come back just for the bacon. We drove from Prunedale to Gilroy at 1:00 on a Saturday for a chicken fried steak for lunch. Parked the car and as we walked across the parking lot one of the servers came out and said "we stopped taking orders and we're closed". I looked in the restaurant, the sign was flipped 'closed'. Disappointed, I got back into the car until I looked at my clock and it was 1:30!! Not good business practice, people. We were in Gilroy for thanksgiving so we stayed at the Hilton and next door was Sandy's Cafe. We are so glad we stopped here before we went home. I got Sandy's skillet with the over easy eggs and it was just amazing. It had the ingredients and all the right flavors for an excellent breakfast. Recently spent a few days in Gilroy for my brother's wedding, and found Sandy's just next door to our hotel. This is a great little diner, a throwback to an earlier time when customer service and quality were still important. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Portions were plentiful and the food was hot, fresh and delicious. My son had the huge 4-egg Maserati omelet with hashbrowns and toast and finished every single bite. The Sandy's skillet was delicious as well. The coffee was hot, fresh and quickly refilled. Enjoyed it so much we came back the next two mornings. I tried something new each day, but my son gobbled up the Maserati every day! Sandy herself was on-site and extremely hospitable and made sure we were well-fed and happy. read more

I walked in with my husband on a Sunday morning close to 11pm the place was packed. We signed in and waited for a table. Waited about 10 mins and we were seated at the front counter; immediately we were offered coffee and served. The menu was pretty basic nothing really special just a typical breakfast dinner cafe. We ordered our food and waited a little longer then I would have liked no biggy thought I'm sure it was the restaurants peak time. The taste of the food was decent again nothing really stood out. Not clear on what the reviewers giving 4 stars are thinking here. I used Yelp to find the place when driving through but was really disappointed. Greasy food, there was something gritty/inedible in my breakfast burrito that I had to spit out, and the hash browns were undercooked. In its favor, it was busy w locals midday during the week, always a good sign. And it's got an Americana diner vibe, no frills and if you've got a craving for the greasy spoon you're in luck. This is probably the worse place I've been too, never felt so humiliated. They took 1 hour with my food which came cold because they lost my family's ticket says the waitress, forgot the my dads side of pancakes. Once asked why the pancakes were still being charged they took it off and then asked for a discount for the inconvenience she says "we took off the pancakes " ?!!??? Owner stepped in with the worst attitude saying that she was not going to give us a discount. It was okay.. Local diner type feel. Ordered the Denver omelet with spinach substituted for ham. Food arrived pretty quickly but we were here on a Friday so the restaurant wasn't too full. Our omelet was pretty good, though much smaller than their menu made it sound. I had even asked our server if it was big enough to share and her comments lead us to believe it would be larger than it ended up being. Luckily we had the side pancake and a side of fruit and hash browns to also split. Hash browns and pancake were good also. Sandy's Cafe is wonderful. The food is fresh, the portions are generous, and the people are wonderful. One of our party stated that the chicken fried steak is the best he has ever had. The owner, Sandy, commented that she makes hers in house daily. I had the skillet plate. It was great. I think I found a new favorite. Sandy also mentioned that she has a new kids menu coming soon. This will be a welcome addition to the current menu, which was held over from the previous management/owner. It is great to see a local independent restaurant that really delivers the hometown experience. No chain feeling here. We'll be back often. read more
