I grew up coming here. While I miss having Eddie greet and sit with us, it's still as good as I remember. I moved to LA and found that I loved crispy rice with spicy tuna. I've been to Sanma through all the management changes and this is the first time the restaurant has offered AYCE. I went on a Friday night around 7-8pm and it was packed. The sushi was decent, I was glad to see they didn't pack the sushi pieces with huge globs of rice in an obvious attempt to fill you up. I can really appreciate that they offer sashimi. My main complaints are the ordering process and the ice cream. It would be great if they used a paper system instead of ordering through the waiter. It's easier to coordinate AYCE orders when you can visually see what you're ordered, especially for large parties. It took time to wave down the waiter each time too because it was so busy. Also, there was some type of crunchy around the ice cream, or cereal. Either way it was not pleasant. read more

Ordered lunch online and I'll give you a tip- go through their website rather than grubhub... the cost was significantly less. The appetizers were the highlight of my meal. Seaweed salad, beef negemaki and spring rolls were great. I hated the dipping sauce with the spring rolls- tasted like a weird ketchup mix. I ended up using the extra juice from the negemaki and it was good. The fried spicy girl roll was not good, but that is probably a result of ordering delivery. First time visiting. Heard mix reviews from different people, decided to give this place a try. (disappointing btw, will not return) Pro: AYCE 24.95 weekdays 26.95 weekends and holidays. Quick to bring out your food first round. Con: Understaffed, slow service. 2nd round took over half hour to come out. Our waitress only came around to check on us once during our entire time there, I had to wave her down to refill my tea. Also a group of 8 were seated by the entrance, they were very loud and obnoxiously drinking their sake and beer, not exactly a place for dates. Our experience: at the end of our dinner, we had more than a few pieces left overs and they want to charge us $10 in addition to our bill. Manager(perhaps owner) came over after we started picking on our leftovers and started arguing with us that we cannot pick at it, she's still going to charge us extra either way. She wouldn't let us finish what we were saying and they didn't even offer for us to take home the left over, they just took the plates. Me and my wife eat pretty regularly at Sanma. My wife has her two or three favorite rolls (She enjoys the Halloween Roll). I get rolls and some sasimie pieces usually. The sushi is always very fresh and I can't say I have ever had a bad experience. There are a lot of Sushi places on Staten Island now, I think there catching up with the number of pizza joints. Sanma is a solid good sushi place I would definitely recommended to a friend or nieghbore . I'm not a fan of the AYCE stuff so I have never had an issue with that stuff here. They have some very cool specialty rolls, I use to love the tuna, tuna roll but it is no longer on the menu. So this is the second time I did all you can eat sushi at Sanma. The food was great but they should be more specific about the yelp check in, because they didn't take 7 dollars off because it was "all you can eat" but it didn't say it was excluded. And the first time I did all you can eat here, they took off the 7 dollars with no problem so I don't know why this time it would be different! read more

love this place !!! sushi is always fresh . service is good , prices are average. The only downsides are that parking is a tight fit .. in that the lot is always full and crowded , also it tends to get very very loud ... not sure if its the acoustics of the room or just background noise or loud customers . DO NOT COME HERE! This place got a C-Rating during the restaurant inspection (Inspection was done ONLY 2 Months ago!!) With an acceptable A score of 13 violation points, Mitoushi received 35 violation points! Inspection reports say that there is evidence of bugs and other vermin here... YUCK! I really like sushi but at the same time this place rolls could be Alit tile better everything is not as clean and perfect as you would be aspected when you first walked inside it looks like a cute little sushi restaurant then the waitress that took my order was rude then we wait for like half an hour for our food and the roll we order came like half am hour after we were done with our entree which is stupid..the price was reasonable though but the food was so so...i order the bento box half if my shit was oily i really didn't like that at all since i aspect to eat heathy when i go to the sushi so I wasn't even sure if that was a good thing that two meals only cost twenty bucks when the food and the taste is not even there... read more

One of the best sushi restaurants in Staten Island in my opinion. Friendly staff, delicious food, reasonable price & they just started serving alcohol there beside Japanese beer & sake. Mitoushi is a block away from my house, and given the super reviews on here and a craving for Japanese, my boyfriend and I thought it would be a perfect fit for dinner last night. I'm not sure what all the rave is about on here because it was a serious let-down. It was not very good and not very cheap. (FYI: Half-off sushi no longer exists at Mitoushi.) We ordered two bento boxes ($15.95 ea.), a rainbow roll ($5.95) and two Cokes. We started off with miso soup, which was good--but then, miso soup is always good. Then came the rainbow roll, which was disappointing; the fish was bland and all tasted the same, the avocado was brown and even the wasabi seemed stale, all dried up and crumbly. Then came the rice, which was fine, followed by the bentos. My boyfriend had the chicken teriyaki and I had the chicken katsu, both of which were tasty--no complaints there. But the sides left much to be desired. The California rolls in particular were the least impressive I've ever had, and again the avocado was an unappetizing shade of brown-green. With three idle sushi chefs, I expected fresher food. Some people on here said they loved Mitoushi's atmosphere. At the risk of becoming too critical now, I thought the place was a dump, reminiscent of a dirty Chinese take-out joint with awkward dance music and tables packed in like sardines. Ironically, I've had better sushi at the King Buffet Chinese place on Richmond Ave, which I think says a lot. In total our bill came to just under $50 for both of us, but this was definitely not a $50 meal. Good food combined with an enjoyable dining experience is priceless, so it wasn't the bill that bothered me. Mitoushi missed the mark big time, and I won't be back. As a side note, maybe Mitoushi was tainted for us by the wonderful experience we had recently at Nakata on Richmond Rd., which gave us everything we were expecting from Mitoushi. The decor is beautiful, staff are friendly, food is reasonably priced, tasty and fresh. We had a similar meal there for about $30 less than we paid at Mitoushi. Nakata is on the other side of the Island and Mitoushi is in our backyard, but I wish it were the other way around. Next time I'm in the mood for sushi, I'll be making the commute. read more

I would love to be able to give you a complete review of my dinner yesterday but after waiting over 45 minutes for our food, my wife and I left. I guess it was too much to get a bento box and two sushi rolls out of the kitchen and into my belly in a reasonable amount of time. This is not the go to place for fine dining. If I could equate this place to an american counter part... it'd be like the applebee's of sushi restaurant. That being said I''m not knocking on it... and here is the good news. The price matches the quality. This place seems to specialize in rolls so if you're a roll lover you'll enjoy the sushi here. However I found it disappointing that whenever I try to pick a piece up... it more often then not crumbles before I can get it in my mouth. Their Sashimi is 'OK' not the best and not the worst. Unremarkable would be the word I'd use. Overall its a good place for cheap eats... but if you're looking for quality, you're better off making the trip into manhattan. read more

Let me preface my review by stating that I have been going to and ordering from Mitoushi for years now. In the beginning everything about the place was exceptional. Price, quality, service and everything you'd want from a Sushi spot were on point. However, I noticed that in the last year or so all of those qualities have been deteriorating. Price increases are usually out of the business' hands and I understand that. Due to rising costs there is nothing they can do. But that doesn't mean that the quality of the food as well as the service should decline as well. It's quite upsetting that an establishment that I used to recommend and gave praise to can fall off so far that there's a chance I never give them my business again. There's been instances in the past where orders were incorrect, mainly for delivery, but I have been able to forgive them because I was still satisfied by the food. Being that I have given them numerous chances because I remember how good they used to be my brother and I decided to order from them. We had a fairly small order of the Chicken Yaki-Tori, Fried Rice, and an Eel Cucumber Roll and a Shrimp Tempura Roll. The rolls were good. They always have been. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the Yaki-Tori. It was severely under cooked, but the attached pictures do not show how much. And we ordered a large fried rice and the container wasn't filled. I hate to be THAT GUY who leaves a negative review, but sometimes it is absolutely necessary. Hopefully they take it as constructive criticism and they can return to the way they used to be. But for now, I will have to take my business elsewhere. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE !! I'm here with Hammo about 2-3 times a week. Come on, $2.95 a roll ? ! I'll take it! All the waiters and waitresses know our faces. Upon entering and being seated promptly, he or she will ask.."2 waters, 2 green teas; how many spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls will it be today? ", ha. I get the spicy salmon bowl and a spicy tuna roll each time. He gets a green salad, 2 spicy salmon rolls and 2 spicy tuna rolls each time. These orders will never change, ha. Then, we order one of the more expensive special rolls to share. Our goal is to try them all! So far, all have been excellent but the Spicy Girl and the Volcano roll are faves. The 1 star rating is not for the service - the service was good. It is for the food and cleanliness. When I first sat down the first thing I noticed was the dirty, sticky table I sat at. Then looked around, the floors were filthy. I ordered the Chirashi which is 10 pcs of assorted raw fish topped over some seasoned rice. The taste was fair except for the tuna - which tasted pretty rotten, so I didn't continue to eat that. I should have said something but decided not to. I asked for an additional small plate so I can eat from the dish little by little - then I noticed that the small plate they gave me had not been washed well, dried funk marks and nasty fingerprints all over - an again, I didn't say anything. I woke up the next morning feeling feverish and achey - and my best guess is probably from that bite of rotten tuna. I still tipped, but will never go back there again. read more

What the HELL HAPPENED MITOUSHI????!!! Man oh man this place used to be excellent but the last two times I've ordered it has been nightmarish. First mess happened on a Friday night and ok I get it, it's a busy night, but I'm making a large order that needed to be split by two cards for two couples. Sushi arrives and they're missing the Seaweed salad we ordered. Not only is it my girlfriends favorite, the item costs $5.95. I call back. Professor Puss Face answers and tells me very clearly "Listen it's really busy, and I'm not sending someone with Seaweed Salad...". A pause fell over the conversation that lasted so long that he had to say "hello?" after a while. I was waiting for him to tell me WHAT he was going to do to FIX his MISTAKE. It never happened, I HAD TO TELL HIM TO FIX IT SOMEHOW. He offered to credit the card. Cool. Thanks. Here's where I really get upset. Ordered about 3 weeks ago with a friend of mine for a nice dinner. You know when you get excited for sushi? We were so ready to tear into the quality sushi we are accustomed to from Mitoushi. I loved Mitoushi when they first started out. The atmosphere was great and the food was awesome for the price they offered. Nowadays it's ok, it gets ridiculously busy and some prices make me nervous. Still the rolls are great and the a la carte up to par. I am updating my review because I eat from this place at least once a week. It is one of the few places that have been able to survive the recession with it's integreity still intact. They changed the prices of some of their fish rolls to $3.95 rather than $2.95 but that is ok if they continue to provide the same quality as before. Everytime I order from them, they come within a half an hour, always very efficient and friendly taking your order and have very fresh fish. Considering the economy, you get the most for your money at this place and do not have to sacrifice quality for economics. This is my review based on delivery to my home. I am in a pickle because the food and service were great, but the manager is literally illogical. Pros: the waitress was good. Attentive and very quick. Food came out pretty fast and the food was ok. It wasn't perfect, but I didn't complain. I think it was also priced fairly. Con: I checked in on Yelp and there was an offer for "$5 off for $40+" however fine print said "$7 off of $50+". My bill came out to $76. They only took off $5, so I told them that it should be $7 and the manager came to tell me that she can't take off $7. She was trying to explain but her English was so bad I had no idea what she was talking about. I honestly didn't care about $2, but it was the principle. I was under the impression that customer is always right and I don't think you should have an offer available on Yelp if you're not going to honor it. I didn't feel like fighting for $2 so I just paid for it but I'm upset that she ruined my mood at my family dinner for my father's birthday. She tried to ease the situation by giving us free ice cream which was nice of her but I don't understand why she didn't just take off $2. I don't want ice cream even though my younger brother ate it I couldn't even tip less because it wasn't the waitress or chef's fault! So hopefully the owner or manager reads my review and contacts Yelp to change the offer to avoid such situations in the future. read more

Their recent AYCE custom order, sushi, sashimi, Asian dishes buffet is absolutely wonderful and well worth the price and then some!!! A really amazing and diverse variety of hot and cold delicious offerings, all for one low and reasonable price, without (like with some such places) any sacrifice of quality or freshness. This high caliber of AYCE is very rare on Staten Island to say the least and we are truly holding high hopes that they shall continue this tasty and bountiful AYCE Asian menu, well past January, as it presently is still a pilot program, and not yet permanent. So people need to show-up and keep ordering this really worthwhile AYCE option! Normally we need to travel far for this nice arrangement (Saki in Brooklyn, where even though they have great selection, the quality and freshness is not up to the Sanma high standard, or all the way deep into NJ.) Now we get to stay on SI, and for one high value price, get as much fresh nice cuts of Sashimi, delicious hamachi, wonderful teriyaki or hibachi style large shrimp/salmon/etc, a myriad of fantastic included specialty rolls, great salads and appetizers (best Kani mango salad we ever had,) Udon noodle & Rice dishes, etc, etc, etc! I would like to see a limited piece or two of Uni included, but that is something I can order separately, if I still have any room left at all. They were very friendly, helpful, and provided great service indeed! Marie is unable to eat those little crunches that sometimes getbplace her favorite spicey tuna rolls or kani mango salad, and they were acommadating to leave them out of all the orders! They even include green tea and fried ice cream in the AYCE price, and for the alcohol drinkers on the Island, for a small additional fee on top of the AYCE price, they can have unlimited wine, beer, and saki. For Staten Island, it's a solid sushi joint. For Manhattan, it wouldn't survive. One of my biggest pet peeve is when rice falls before it reaches the soy sauce bowl .. And their product highlights this flaw. Sushi is meant to be eaten in one bite, but it's hard when it crumbles before your mouth. There is no hint of rice vinegar in their rice but the fish is fresh. The rolls are affordable and the quality reflects its price. If this was located in Manhattan, I'd give it a 1-2 star; but because Staten Island has limited Asian cuisine, 3-4 stars is fine. Service is good. They're obviously busier on the weekends, but I've never had a problem. Seems to be brimming with guidos and overtanned girls .. Mitoushi sushi is a little place in the middle of Staten Island. It doesn't have an authentic feeling but for the price do you really care? Sushi is around $3 a roll and the specialty rolls vary from $7-$15 which is quite normal. The staff seemed very friendly the service was fast. The only con I would say about Mitoushi sushi would be parking. If your expecting to find close parking think again. The restaurant gets quite busy and there is only a small parking lot for Mitoushi sushi and a number of other places. If you cant find parking though there is always the street . Overall if you don't want to spend a lot of money and are really craving sushi then you should def. try this place read more

I used to come here often back when I used to go to College of Staten Island. I would usually order their lunch special of bento box w/ Salmon Teriyaki. The bento box comes with california roll. For the past 4 years that I used to eat in Mitoushi, they never had a problem with substituting the california roll with a roll i preferred such as Shrimp Tempura roll. Usually they'd let me know that its possible and that i would just have to pay an extra dollar. No big deal and I completely understood. I was always satisfied with my order back then. Today, I ate at Mitoushi for the first time in over a year. I ordered the same lunch special, bento box salmon teriyaki. I asked if I could substitute the california roll with shrimp tempura. Jeff, our waiter, was in the simplest terms full of $hit. He said that it wasn't possible because the california rolls are already "made in the back" and i guess it would be a hassle/a waste if they substitute it with something else. I then told him that Ive been going there for years with this request and I never had a problem. I was also willing to pay extra because I know it includes shrimp. He said no and that they are now under new management. I told him it would be a waste of food since I wont be eating that california roll anyways. His solution to the problem - order the shrimp tempura as a side order and they will leave the california rolls out of the bentox box (while I still have to pay for the full price). Um, no Jeff, don't try to be slick with me. First off, who has "pre-made rolls in the back" its a sushi restaurant. Its supposed to be fresh and made on the spot so I know your ass is lying. Second, if you guys are in new management you guys definitely need to get your act together. Third, the customer service is terrible. Jeff is not very friendly, he rushes you and his responses are very rude. This will be my last time going to this place.
