I had a deeply concerning experience at Ocean Sushi. On 04/23/2025, I ordered three rolls, including a spicy tuna roll. After eating the majority of the rolls, I found what appeared to be a parasitic worm, likely an Anisakis parasite (which can cause Anisakiasis). Shortly afterward, I developed severe gastrointestinal symptoms, including significant stomach distress and dizziness. I visited urgent care and the ER, spending $165 out of pocket, and was referred to a gastrointestinal specialist for further testing. When I called the restaurant to report the issue, I was told a driver would come verify the food. Instead, the manager, the chef, and another staff member came to my house. One of them even brought a tray of raw tuna--despite my clear request not to bring any raw food onto my doorstep--and proceeded to dig their bare hands into the tuna without gloves. They remained outside my home for nearly 40 minutes, explicitly trying to dissuade me from escalating the matter with the Health Department. The entire incident is recorded on my Ring camera. When I later spoke with the owner, Andy, he blamed the incident on "language and cultural barriers" and suggested that I could have gotten sick from "anything." He refused to take responsibility or reimburse my medical expenses. I have filed a formal complaint with the NYC Health Department and have preserved all evidence, including photos, video footage, and medical records. I strongly urge extreme caution if you are considering dining at Ocean Sushi. I've also included a photo showing the difference between what may have been a strip of tuna fat (top) and what strongly resembles a parasitic worm (bottom). The difference in texture and shape is clear. I am not a food safety expert, but I trust my instincts -- and I believe others should be informed.

Sesame seeds on the sushi?! Not for me. The sushi wasn't bad but the sesame was overpowering. Not sure if it was only the ones I ordered. The service is quick and the food overall isn't bad. Nice people and I am sure the other items are better.

Flavorful and the Spicy Dragon roll was soo good, I regretted my decision to share the roll with my husband. I ordered Yaki udon- which was delicious however I wish the shrimp tails were peeled off. I guess Ocean Sushi still hasn't opened for indoor dining! So I decided to order for takeout and was both perplexed and amazed by their innovative ordering setup. Ocean Sushi blocked off the entrance for their vicinity and instead, placed a small microphone on a table, and created a tiny doorway to transfer food and money. Most of the customers seemed to place pickup orders and retrieved them by providing the last four digits of their phone number through the microphone. I honestly can't say the servers here were that nice. For example, as I got ready to place my takeout order, the server said, "Girl, what do you want?" rather than something more polite like, "Hello, how can I help you" or something similar... After all, they didn't have any customers outside, nor did they seem to have any phone calls that would warrant the rushed and cold "greeting" I received. Nevertheless, I ordered an "Under Sea Roll," as well as Red Snapper and Striped Bass Sashimi. Well, despite their lack of politeness, I have to hand it to them; they made my food in roughly 5 minutes and provided some of the best quality and tasting sushi I've had on Staten Island! The sashimi slices were large and fresh. The "Under The Sea" roll is an excellent option that combined the flavors of both California and Salmon Avocado rolls. The roll was plentiful, filling, and all-around tasty! While I felt the server was a little rude, I enjoyed my sushi roll and sashimi. I heard many people speak highly about their indoor-dining experiences at Ocean. Although I will probably order for pickup at Ocean again, perhaps when the pandemic subsides, and Ocean reopens for dining, I'll stop by and give their indoor dining a try!

Tried Ocean Sushi in Staten Island and it's definitely a great local spot. The food is really fresh and there's a wonderful variety on the menu, so there's something for everyone. They're also great about accommodating gluten-free options, which is always a huge plus. Service can be a bit on the slower side, especially when it's busy, but honestly the food makes it worth the wait. Prices are reasonable for the quality you get, too. Overall, a solid go-to sushi spot, I'd definitely come back. read more

Ocean Sushi is easily top 3 sushi spots on Staten Island in my book The Angry Dragon Roll & Romantic Roll were both incredible, the spicy tuna on crispy rice was addicting, and the spicy kani salad hit the spot. The pineapple fried rice was packed with flavor, and the creamy nigori sake tied it all together perfectly. What really keeps us coming back though is the lovely staff -- they treat us like family every time we walk in. Great food, warm people, and always an awesome experience. read more

Excellent fresh fish can be difficult to find on Staten Island, but this place has buttery fresh sushi. The seafood miso soup was delicious, the toro roll was different but excellent. The white tuna sashimi, the Naruto and under the sea roll were very shareable for two and were enjoyed by both of us. Service was good and they let us linger which I liked. read more

This is my goto sushi delivery spot. Theyre always quick and never had issues w my order. Placing order online or on the phone is so easy! Sushi is good, always fresh and generous cutting with sashimi. I love scallop sushi so that was so important for me that it tastes fresh! They have special rolls as well. I'm usually picky with sushi, but this place did not disappoint! I definitely want to try to dine in person eventually. They do not have omakase style sushi if thats what you're lookin for. Still on the search for that on the island. read more

I don't see how this place has earned a 5 star average rating. Sashimi is very fresh, and the ambience is not bad. However, the special rolls fall apart when you pick them up. They need to work on that. Overall, it's not bad for staten island, but I was disappointed in their special rolls. read more

Parking lot is very convenient and very nice decor. Kind of tucked away in a corner of a little strip of restaurants. Walked in for lunch and was greeted by a very nice woman who showed me to my seat. Bathroom is clean, but unfortunately there wasn't any soap. Food was great! Ordered delivery from here last week and we liked it a lot. It took close to an hour for them to arrive, but we ordered on a Sunday during dinner hours and we live about 4-5 miles away so it makes sense. We weren't mad about it. The sashimi regular dish was super fresh and had nice thick cuts. The special rolls were also very fresh and satisfying. We got the NY roll, Ocean roll, and Under Sea roll. All good. One thing I will say is that we got a spicy scallop roll and it was a 1/10 in terms of spiciness, and my family who can't tolerate spicy heat agreed. Maybe that was just a one-off thing though! Also, I've never seen a sushi spot include little containers of eel sauce mixed with a not-very-strong wasabi before, but it was delicious and now I'm going to crave it every time I eat sushi elsewhere. Definitely would order again. read more

I ordered Sushi on a Thursday for dinner... the sushi was a bit warm. I did not give it much thought...well after eating the Tuna Roll shrimp roll& California roll... with in 2 hours I was deathly sick. I vomited up the entire meal... I have been sick for 4 days now... it's sad that they would send out bad Sushi.. knowing how sick you can get... I highly recommend you stay away from this place... I am still sick 4 days later... I hope this helps someone else from getting as sick as I got.......The stomach pains are so bad. I can eat anything... I think you get the picture read more

Oceans has always been my go to place for sushi. Fresh delicious, and the service is outstanding! They really want to make sure that everything is good. They are attentive and always with a smile. (As of now) my favorite sushi place on the Island. I came here for lunch with my dad (I convinced him to try something other than his staple, Kiku on Richmond). We were there pretty late for lunch-- 2:30-- at least for me, but we were not dining alone. The place itself is small but really clean and pleasant. I loved the atmosphere, and definitely want to check out what it's like at dinner. The service is so helpful and really concerned with how they're doing. They asked us multiple times how we heard of them. I wanted to try out this place solely on Yelp reviews but a family friend also spoke its praises. We both ordered lunch specials, which are the run of the mill for sushi/Japanese places. I had three rolls: spicy tuna, yellowtail scallion, and sweet potato. They were a lot bigger than what other places on SI have given me in the past, it was awesome. My dad ordered chicken teriyaki with fried rice and said the rice was the best he's ever had. We have a convert!! The server had me fill out a survey at the end, which I gladly did. Apparently they have birthday specials? Excited to see what that's about. I'm also itching to go here for dinner and try some drinks and special rolls. They also have free delivery-- what could be better? read more

Beef intestines were not as we remembered from other locations, but nonetheless good. Sliced beef brisket and jowl are also good cuts for folks looking for something new. Not too much of a fan of marinated meets, but I'm sure they'd live up to the same level of quality too. One huge plus about this particular chain (for which you do pay a bit of a premium in the price) is that they have pretty amazingly efficient grills and vents, such that you can largely avoid smelling like your AYCE KBBQ afterwards. This Place is just beautiful, and when you add that to great food and a friendly warm owner and staff. Well what more can I say. The sushi sandwich is a burst of flavors blended so well complimenting each one. The Green Phoenix with Miso sauce just melts in your mouth. Freshness and quality have all the others beat. Same owners of Hokkaido which I also love. Ocean Sushi's ambiance knocks all these other places out of the water. On a date, with friends, or even family it is a true dining experience.The chef mixes sauces in such a way it tastes like something different and fresh when ever i go. I have my favorites (Sea World Roll, Beef yakitori, kimchee salmon, tom yum soup, volcano special, pad tai, ginger lobster...you will have to order in advance as it is made fresh for you). They have added Hibachi... everything is delicious on the menu. Beautiful atmosphere. Michelle really understands customer services and always makes you feel like you belong there. Everything we ordered was very fresh and delicious, and fair sized portions. The atmosphere and service is impeccable, everything was brought out in a timely manner without any errors.
