The food was okay but some of the sushi rolls and calamari did not taste very good. We had some leftover at the end, and the lady was acting like we were wasting food. They wouldn't give us the bill until the plate was cleared. I understand if someone ordered an excessive amount, but if you have a few pieces left over from a roll, you didn't like, you shouldn't have to pay extra for it. This is honestly and truthfully one of the best sushi places I have been to in a long time. ALLERGEN ALERT If I could give zero stars, I would. I have ordered from them for years. I've told them multiple times of this allergy. This past Thursday when I ordered chicken tempura rolls for the lunch special, I was instead given SHRIMP, which I am DEATHLY ALLERGIC to. I went back and showed them, they said, "Oh yeah, sorry" (which is a shockingly blasé response) and took it back. I ended up having to run to the Urgi care in that lot. They had to medicate me and call an ambulance. All because Genki sushi was incredibly NEGLIGENT with food allergies which could result in death. It was in a slightly sweet citrus glaze which complimented the gaminess of the lamb so well. The hibachi rice comes with this sauce. I can't describe it as anything besides epic. I'm pretty sure its a mango-based sauce as it has this inherent sweetness to it that balances out the saltiness of the rice. If I listed everything I've tried and loved from there the review would legitimately be their entire menu. But the alaska roll was bad. It was very bad. The avocado had no flavor and it Is had a strange texture. They have to leave and I felt sick. Genki Sushi is my favorite sushi spot on Staten Island. The staff is friendly, the sushi has always been fresh, there is lots of seating and plenty of parking in the lot, and there are so many choices on the menu that you could get something different every time if you wanted. Pretty much everything I'm looking for when going out for sushi on SI. I really like the special rolls there, especially creative ones like the Ichiban roll (with spicy tuna and lobster tempura), the Tiger King roll (with spicy tuna, eel tempura, and seaweed salad), and the Monster roll (with black pepper tuna, asparagus, and yellowtail). Pretty much all of the rolls we've had there, whether from the list of special rolls or the more "classic" rolls, have been good, as well as lots of the sushi bar appetizers. They also usually have a limited time special on the board behind the sushi bar, so we always try to check that out before finalizing our order. read more

For example, for a salmon roll, I've seen some restaurants offer a dollar cheaper per roll for the same size. The restaurant itself is pretty dim and dark, but in an inviting way for a more modern sushi restaurant. The food also came out FAST considering the amount of food that my party ordered (around 13 rolls). Averaging around $3 or so per maki roll, you will not be able to find a more affordable (yet still delicious) option anywhere on the island. The lunch special is an amazing deal--$8.95 for your choice of three rolls. I love that the fish is always fresh and perfectly balanced to the amount of rice (nothing worse than sushi with too much rice and too little fish!) I would recommend all of the basic rolls--salmon and spicy salmon, tuna and spicy tuna, and the eel cucumber or eel avocado. Although I usually get takeout, the restaurant itself is nicely appointed with modern touches and dim lighting, and I'd imagine it would be fun place to go for a date night. read more

I know they arent suppose to be warm but it felt/taste like they made it earlier and just took it out of the fridge. When our outdoor plans got canceled because of rain my friends suggested we go here. I was really disappointed since Sushi is not my thing at all but I wasn't going to be the Debbie Downer if the group. First I looked at the appetizers and the Tempura stuffed Hot chili pepper jumped out at me. It was amazing. Nice heat m, crispy and so yummy. It's so delicious but I couldn't eat it all myself since it was spicy so get it to share with someone. Then when it came to sushi I couldn't make myself try the raw stuff, I've tried in the past and it's not for me. Then I saw on the back page something called a coconut shrimp sushi roll. It was sooooo good I wanted to eat it all but was so filling. I liked it all so much I came back 2 nights later and ordered the exact same thing. Located within a small strip plaza, Genki never falls short on providing some of the best quality sushi Staten Island has to offer. My experience with Genki is on par. Service is excellent, sushi is magnificent and perfectly done with love and essence and the food presentation is il est magnifique. We came in as a group of 3 and ordered enough sushi to feed a small country, and managed to finish it all without hesitation. Every grain of rice was consumed, or inhaled I should say. We swapped a few rolls with brown rice instead of white and I couldn't even taste the difference. They don't overload the rolls with rice, perfect fish to rice ratio.
