We came in 45 minutes before close and had the place mostly to ourselves. Seated right away, ordered within minutes and food came out quick. I ordered the crispy salmon with jasmine rice and Penang curry sauce, and I would go back and order that dish on the regular. So delicious! read more

Came here Sunday evening for a quick dinner. The two of us got three dishes and a dessert (sticky rice and mango) .... We were a little hungry The ONLY semi moderate gripe I can possibly think of is that the portions are a bit small. Just look at the mango sticky rice rice portion- I could've eaten that in 1-2 bites . Flavors of all were super on point though. Love their spicy tray to add more sour or spice, for those looking for MORE flavor (already very tasty as is!) and that the path to the bathrooms is a bit narrow, but it was clean. Service was attentive but not overly so. I really liked this place, just wish it was more food . But I love to eat!! It's right off the Eastern Market metro so it could be quite convenient. Perfect lunch spot! After a long visit at the urgent care down the street, we were in need of a quick but delicious lunch. One of the nurses recommended Sanphan and it's a good thing she did. The lunch specials were what enticed us most about this spot. Each meal comes with an appetizer and there are plenty of entree and appetizer options. I went with the cashew dish with chicken and my mom did the Thai fried rice. We ordered spring rolls as our appetizers. Our server was kind and attentive. We asked her for recommendations but they were quite limiting since she doesn't like curry dishes. The restaurant is spacious and there's a bar which is great for groups and those wanting cocktails. This place is banging! I had the lunch special for like 16 bucks. I have the this fried rice and it was simply wonderful. The basil and sweet soy sauce was amazing. There was plenty of chicken and for a lunch plate it was more than enough food to crave off hunger. Also, the lunch special came with an additional spring roll that was cooked to perfection. I stumbled into Sanphan Thai on a Sunday afternoon with friends after visiting Eastern Market. It was pretty empty when we walked in so we were quickly seated but more people came in over time. We ordered the See Eu Tofu, Panang curry, Veggie Pad Thai and Thai Iced Tea. Everyone loved their food. I personally thought the food was just okay but we all agreed the Thai Iced Tea was amazing! My partner and I have always thoroughly enjoyed our meals here. She's always gotten the Basil Tofu, and even as a non-tofu lover, it's been her fav for years. Went to Sanphan on a snowy Tuesday night. The restaurant was actually quite busy, but the service was efficient, and friendly. After ordering, our food came out hot and fresh in just a few minutes. I don't really consider myself an expert on Pad Thai, but this was a great dish and I enjoyed every bite. My wife had the Panang curry and I could've seen myself eating a full order of that as well. The vegetable soup was a delicious and very light soup, perfect for a cold winter day when you need something that will warm your bones up! The eggplant salad was a great choice as well! I loved the combination of the ground chicken and the grilled shrimp. I wish there had been slightly less vinaigrette, so I'd encourage you to order the dressing on the side if this is what you order! Finally, the Pad Thai was just exactly what I wanted in every way. Solid 4.5 stars I've been eating Thai food for every bit of 20 years. This place is not only spot on with its flavor profile delivery, but the portions are larger. LARGER!! As in I left the restaurant with a small container of leftovers. That never happened in the history of my Thai food consumption, anywhere. Ever. I wasn't expecting anything extraordinary in reading the reviews, but my goodness! This place is going on my list of repeat visits. Had a nice Long Island iced tea and some shrimp and chicken drunken noodle. My business partner had fried rice with tofu and pineapple. She's vegetarian and had them take out green onions and substitute a bunch of stuff and I got dizzy listening to the order, lol, but this place executed well. She had a whole PILE of fried rice once it arrived at the table. They weren't busy when we arrived but the patronage all of a sudden exploded as if they offloaded a church bus or something and about 35 people came in all at once. There were only two servers, but they managed to navigate nicely and get everybody served without an incredible wait. The architecture is a bit challenged when you go downstairs to the bathroom. Yes, it's downstairs. The steps are slightly uneven and there's a dip in the floor and the ceiling is ridiculously low. I'm 6'3 and had tilt my head making my way to the bathroom - which was clean. Downstairs reminds you of one of those cargo container "tiny houses" some people buy to save money. It's a very unremarkable Thai restaurant otherwise. Big food. Tiny stairs and downstairs. Quite the dichotomy. Terrific foodie find. Parking is right on Pennsylvania Avenue so you guys know how that can be a challenge sometimes, but today it was surprisingly available. Never coming back here. Do not come here if you have dietary restrictions or if you care about cross contamination. I'm vegetarian, and I ordered the Vegetarian Pad Thai. They literally have a vegetarian section on their menu, and labels for what is gluten free, vegetarian, etc., so I didn't think I'd have to worry about my food. However, when it arrived, it reeked of fish sauce, even more so than my friend's dish which actually was a meat dish. I asked the waitress if the food had fish sauce in it, which she replied no, and that it might just smell like that. Then, she stated that it might be that way because it was cooked in a pan that previously had a dish with fish sauce, and acted like that was a normal thing for a restaurant to do. Now I'm wondering if meat had been cooked in the pan that my food was cooked in, and if that pan was even washed in between. I'm thinking no. The food smelled so much like fish sauce that it made my non-vegetarian friend also nauseous. I couldn't even take more than 2 bites because it made my stomach hurt. It was interesting, because my friend tried the tofu in my Pad Thai and it seems like it was marinated in fish sauce. For our appetizer we had spring rolls and calamari. The spring rolls are nice and crisp, the calamari breading was quite light and the portions were huge! The squid was a bit stringy, not sure if it's the way it's prepared or fried, but we indulged nonetheless. We enjoyed their happy hour specials, which is also offered on the weekends!
