Called in to order and it was ready when I arrived at the 15 minutes they mentioned. Small place but the have a few seats inside to eat. They were not available due to COVID. Very nice lady answered phone. When I arrived, she went to pack my food. I ordered lemon chicken. Lemon sauce was very lemony and not as sweet as some places. The chicken was fried and it had a wonderful crunchy batter. Definitely big enough for two. I ordered chicken fried rice which was not very tasty. It was rice, onions, sprouts, and chicken. There were no spices so rather bland. I ended up putting lemon sauce on it. I wouldn't order it again. Egg roll was fried crispy and tasted fresh. Hot and sour soup was great. It was a nice warm up during the chilly evening. I will definitely come back but not order fried rice. read more

This is the worst food I purchased Shrimp Egg Food Young the dark brown sauce tastes like the scraped an iron skillet of flour and water (burnt). After trying to call back several times I finally got through and was forward to the manager where I informed him of the issue for him to say bring it back and they will redo the gravy. NO! I would like to order a new menu item, as he insisted, he didn't understand because this was the first complaint they have ever. I finally got them to agree to substitute my dish for something else. So, I asked for Shrimp & Broccoli to learn from a colleague that I will get an entire bush of broccoli and 3 shrimp along with a bed of rice. Please believe I am NEVER patronizing this spot again and I will share with my organization to NOT purchase from them either. Instead, I'm going to get a refund. Mayflower has become my go-to quick Chinese carry-out place in Mt. Pleasant (ChinaTown = not nearly as good). It's super-quick (usually, if I order from home and immediately start walking - about 3 long blocks away - by the time I get there, my food is ready), and the staff is extremely friendly. They're accommodating of special orders (including sauces on the side), and often give you sodas when you order a certain amount (maybe 1 soda for each $10? I have no idea how it works out). Lunch specials here are plentiful in portion size, and I find the dinner combination specials (about $6.50 for a main entree, rice, and an egg roll) to be a very good value. They also serve them now in reusable plastic containers, which is kind of a silly thing - but they've singlehandedly supplied our house with Tupperware-like plastics. For a regular, Americanized Chinese place, this is just fine. Good sweet and sour chicken, good General Tso's, good chicken & broccoli, and good lemon chicken. They also serve subs and fried chicken (which seem pretty popular, actually). There are a few tables to sit at, but nothing fancy. Also, there are a few chairs just inside to sit on if you want to place a carryout order and wait. Otherwise, stop in, place an order, pop over to the liquor store for a six-pack, and then come back to pick up your food - you'll be well on your way to a tasty night in. My only complaint: they don't deliver. (But maybe that's a good thing...otherwise, i'd order from here all the time.) I do, however, have an emotional connection to this place - my housemates & I used to order from here ever week, as we'd eat dinner while watching the now-defunct "Kid Nation." read more

I placed a HUGE takeout order for a dinner with friends last night, and I appreciate that Mayflower had all of the food ready right on time for 6:30pm pick up and provided lots of sauces, utensils, and plates. There is still great value and big portions here, but I finally took stock of the dishes I like: -- general tso's -- lo mein -- steamed meat dumplings ...and didn't like: -- kung po chicken (heavy on the veggies, low on the chicken) -- fried dumplings (the dough is very thick, so they become tough when fried) -- veggie dumplings (the thick dough combined with veggies just doesn't do it for me) -- fried rice (dried out quickly so I couldn't enjoy the next day, but was fine day-of) Overall, this is a great option in the area, especially if you want to order ahead. It just doesn't hit the mark for some of my favorite dishes. read more

listen i never do this but i have reviewed mayflower before and im going to write a second one. what you're not going to get from the first review (where i touched on how the food was piping hot in a good way, stayed hot for a while, and was generally just bomb) is that now for the second time it was EXACTLY the same, so good, and to the point where we were like WOW every few minutes of eating. also what i should say is that we got veg lo mein no onions spicy, and sesame chicken, and egg rolls both times. our other co-worker said he got it for lunch (not the same order hes vegetarian) but that he also was like WOW its good. read more

Mayflower is just around the corner - and I could not be happier to discover great Chinese food in walking distance. I'm a little skeptical of the range of food on the menu, but I will definitely vouch for the Chinese takeout. For under $20, we had two appetizers, one combination platter, and a drink. The portions are generous so my roommate and I both had 2 full meals out of that $20. I'm a bit of a dumpling fanatic - so I will say while I usually go fried dumplings, I think I'll go steamed next time (the fried were a little too dough-y). Used to be a fan of this establishment however times have changed. I had a reservation last night and when I arrived their was no host or anyone at the entrance. When the host finally arrived service was dismal. The host along w/ a manager refused to seat me and my guest at a suitable table. When your restaurant has 9-11 open tables I don't care if it's 2 people or one person sit me at a respectable table. If I wanted to sit at the bar I would have. The manager states we have reservations but being that I used to frequent this establishment often it's known that reservations end 9p because they close at 9:30p on Thursday. So to insult my intelligence as if you had 9 more tables coming in when my reservation was at 8:30p is quite a lie. When I determined the BS trumped my desire to dine in I simply went outside for 20-30 mins and just how I imagined, by 9/9:15p they did not have a single patron walk inside their establishment. I detest liars and quite frankly the staff at the Mayflower are big liars. If you don't want money then say that but I see why people haven't gravitated to their establishment on a consistent basis. It's probably for the best because their best angle is their nightlife when the restaurant closes and the restaurant staff goes home! read more

I just don't see it for their fish sandwiches. Mayflower is conveniently located to my home but it shan't be a part of my rotation of late night drunken food as my drunken food of choice is a fish sandwich and their fish sandwiches are sub-par. Bread is fine, the add-ons are okay but the fish is not very good, they put two pieces on the bun but they are misshapen and are clearly from the frozen food aisle. I have had better from other Chinese spots that are just a tad further away. Mayflower you let me down, you really let me down. read more

I lived in Mt. Pleasant for 4 years, and this place was my go-to for a quick meal. It's everything you want from a hole-in-the-wall chinese place: greasy, cheap, huge portions, friendly staff, and colorful local clientele. My favorite order was Bean Curd with Garlic Sauce and Veggies, with brown rice (which they're supposed to charge you an extra buck for... after a while they stopped charging me), and a large Wonton Soup. I also was a big fan of the lobster sauce with shrimp, kung pao chicken, and General Tso's anything. Their crab rangoon was also great. With any meal, you could order one entree and eat at least two meals from it. The girl who works behind the counter (I never found out her name, but in my head, her name is Michelle) is a total sweetie, and pretty quickly came to know me by my phone ahead order and my love of Wonton Soup. When I went back to visit a few weeks ago, after more than a year away, she still remembered me and we had a nice chat about living in New York. Plus one to Michelle for never making me feel like Miranda on Sex and the City. Anyways, Mayflower is cheap, greasy, and awesome. Clean enough to not gross me out, and very fast (I lived a block away, would call in my order, immediately leave the house, and my food would be ready when I arrived). Only downside is that they're not open super late-night. Other than that, totally recommend. read more

Mayflower is your standard, neighborhood Chinese takeout place that also serves fried chicken. The food is cheap, greasy, and filling. Nothing to write to the authenticity critics about and the cooks are definitely not back there being creative. My go-to is an order of general chicken, which is always freshly fried with sauce that isn't too sweet, served with lots of steamed broccoli, and an order of beef lo-mein. I really wish they delivered, but this is our regular place when getting Chinese takeout. We usually get an order of friend dumplings and never come close to eating all of the food. There are always leftovers. If you are looking for a cheap Chinese takeout, definitely give this one a try. Stick to the basics. read more

Not a bad takeaway joint, and much better than you might anticipate from the outside. They do both delivery and pickup, though the delivery is fulfilled by Grubhub and there's a $2.99 fee. The vegetable fried rice is quite good and comes pretty loaded with veggies (including large pieces of broccoli); it could very well stand as a meal of it's own and doesn't necessarily need a protein added to it to be filling. The fake meats are all right, though they don't have a super wide variety. I like the egg rolls here, have been less impressed by the meat dishes. Prices are typical of most Chinese takeaway joints, serving sizes are generous. read more

This place has okay food at decent prices. However, when I went yesterday (still covid times and with a mask ordinance in place), people were in the kitchen preparing food with their masks around their chins. The woman who rang up my order put her mask on to serve me, but it seems extremely unsafe to not wear a mask while preparing food. I normally would rate 3 or 4 stars (3 star food but prices are good), but not wearing a mask brings it down. read more

Their egg drop soup is good, cheap, and always piping hot. That said, nothing else I've tried has been good. The hot and sour soup is sad and the spring rolls even sadder. Service at the counter is speedy and efficient, but seriously, only get the egg drop soup. read more

small order crab Rangoon (received large), egg drop soup + 1 egg roll = $9 food was hot and standard fair for Chinese take out. The way they prepare their crab Rangoon leaves folded points on the end and when fried the corners get hard. Soup tasted like it was made from chicken broth and had a good flavor. The egg roll had very little pork in it and had some shrimp. The oil they used to cook with fresh and not like China Towns (up the street take out). There are 4 or 5 small tables for eating but this place is mainly take out. read more

I don't accept anyone on here who doesn't respect Mayflower in Mount Pleasant. This is where I met my girlfriend of 5 years and fell in love. This is a standard Chinese food restaurant, but I was impressed with the service, speed, and consistently excellent product these guys put out. This is my go to Chinese food place for Columbia Heights and Mount Pleasant. The restaurant is open late, and there have been many the nights out finished with excellent May Flower. These guys are independently owned, and if you want to go corporate, there's always Panda Express down the street on Irving, but that's only for sellouts. read more

I consistently go here against my better judgment, but the seediest places always have the best cheap, fast food. I'm a fan of the garlic shrimp, palm-size fried chicken wings with mumbo sauce, and the fried shrimp and fries basket. You have to spend $7+ to use cards, but sometimes they let you slide. I went there Sat March 8th treating hubby to once a good chinese food I got hunan shrimp no spicy and they gave me shrimp wit veggies n spicy along with some vegatable dumblings fried doughy and mushy hubby got beef and brocooli the beef was rubbery I return my food the nice lady offered something else but you got one time to mess my food up so I nibble on his food throwing all of the beef n brocolli up 30 min later we ate in the tables were dirty asked to be clean no problem my first experience was 6 months ago for lunch time they messed my order up then people coming in mostly got wings which heard was good along with the steak and cheese in my experience won't go back or recommend you going there either read more

it's your typical chinese take-out. i've had better general tso's chicken but everything else was ok. it's got an extensive menu which includes subs and fried chicken but at least their main focus is chinese food unlike some of these type places in the city. the people in there speak ok english and are very friendly. we spent about $10-$12 for 2 people and got a free soda with our meal. there are a few tables in there which are handy to sit at while you wait for your order but i wouldnt actually stay there to eat . i'd come here again because it's pretty convenient but maybe not before i try somewhere else for my chinese craving. read more

Quick, friendly and the best darn orange chicken in town, a generous portion , my wife and I go often now since we discovered it ten days ago. Yummy Chinese food that Americans have come to expect...I like this place and I impressed by the speed at which they prepare you a good hearty meal.
