I asked for a passion fruit martini and they DELIVERED!
    Julia R.

Sala Thai was a pretty decent experience: The service was great, attentive and friendly. I ordered the Tofu in Law to start, chasing a fried tofu dish I love from back home. It was fresh and the flavor was good. However, they should use a firmer tofu for frying. The fluffiness of the tofu does not allow the tamarind flavor to sit on its own and after a minute of sitting, it's no longer crispy. I also ordered the Thai Basil fried rice, it was tasty but could've been a bit more spicy. The sweet cast was a bit much compared to traditional basil fried rice. The meats were fresh and good though. I also ordered a passion fruit martini before my meal and it was PERFECT. Narrowing down my list of Thai spots in DC...Sala may make the list but not so sure yet. I'll be back for another try before my finals...

    Pad Thai with Shrimp... AMAZING!

This place was clean and super welcoming! The music was chill and it felt/looked really clean! The bar was open and the host was very sweet and attentive! The waiter was also extremely polite and friendly! The energy felt good! I ordered a cocktail called Crazy Mango but I didn't like it. It tasted like regular mango lemonade which is tasty but it wasn't the cocktail I thought based on the name. I did LOVE that they added fresh mango! That was surprising and special! I love when bars have real fruit, I just think the mix was a little off but for the price I get it! Now... the food, OMG nothing short of AMAZING! The Shrimp Pad Thai was SOOOOO flavorful! It's literally my new favorite place to get Thai! Especially if I'm craving Pad Thai! The Chicken Basil Fried was was one of the best I've had in DC! I mean top 5 FOR SURE! It was the perfect amount of spice (even with me asking for it be mild)! The shrimp spring rolls were the freshest I've ever had! The flavors were on point! I loved every dish! Next time I'll try a Martini or Margarita! Thai restaurants usually have the BEST drinks so I'll definitely have to go back to try more drinks and enjoy my favorite dishes! Definitely recommending to every foodie I know! It's PERFECT for a solo dates or first dates!!

Green Curry, Pineapple Fried Rice, Drunken Noodle, Tom Kha Kai

I ordered via DoorDash and my food was still warm upon delivery. Here's what I got: Green Curry w/Chicken: 10/10. This was delicious! Drunken Noodle w/veggies: 9/10. Big portion and great flavor. I just wish the carrots were smaller. Pineapple fried rice: 7/10. Nothing special. Wish it had more pineapples in it. Perhaps it's because I ordered it on DoorDash but it did not come in a pineapple. Tom Kha Kai: 5/10. I didn't like this! It was too tangy and not sweet at all.

Sushi 3 ways set - salmon

Located in a new building construction near the Stadium Armory metro station. The place is modern and bright with colorful murals. Service was great, everyone was friendly, and they checked on us a few times to make sure everything was good. We got the Sushi 3 ways set (salmon) - maki roll, nigiri, and sashimi, and it came with a miso soup. The salmon was fresh, a little thickly cut, but I'm not complaining. Only downside was the seaweed wrap on the roll seemed a bit stale and once you start chewing, it was a bit tough. The seaweed used in the miso soup was also a bit strong. We also got the Sala Thai lamb and the sauce and flavors were nice. You get 3 pieces of small chops, but portions were good with the veggies. Definitely recommend their Thai food, maybe not so much the sushi, but I'd eat there again.

Kua Gai Noodle & Pineapple Fried Rice

Have done to go orders a couple of times here and it hasn't disappointed for solid take out. Tried going for dine in on a Friday night before, but it was so packed we had to get items to go. Hopefully a great sign that their business will continue to flourish. Love the Pineapple Fried Rice and the noodle dishes too. If you like pork, give the Kana Moo Krob a try. The Pinky in a Blanket shrimp appetizer was OK, but would try something else next time from the Starter section of the menu.

This place is really good - went to their soft opening weeks back and have been back a handful of times since. They have ironed out a lot of issues with service and they have applied to stay open/serve alcohol later. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They will speak with you as much or as little as you'd like, and they do a great job describing the dishes. There are a couple really great dishes, including their Pad See Ewe (I sub the pork for shrimp) and their Kao Pad Keaw Wan Gai Krob. They also have sushi which is always made fresh. Their cocktails are very well thought out and tasty as well. It's not a huge place, but it's got a very intimate vibe inside. There are two beautiful murals inside. They have live music every now and then as well. Highly recommend.

The food was amazing and the service was pretty quick. Strong old fashioned, but I'm not complaining. Nice atmosphere as well! Definitely recommended!

This place was so amazing every single food item was so good and there is an amazing happy hour. All of the staff were amazing. They were incredible even though we had a big party that were all over the place. I recommend 1000%!!

Exceptional meals, cooked just right and spiced to perfection. Quick service and a casual atmosphere for all.

    Green chicken curry delicious heat!

The food, service, was amazing. I greatly enjoyed the food. The yellow tail crudo had its own spin and not the typical tradition crudo some of the sauce was slightly overwhelming so we had to take some off. The Panang curry with beef did not disappoint the spice level was amazing and just full of flavor. We also had the green chicken curry equally as delicious but if you are ordering from a scale of 1-5 it was a five. I don't mind spicy so I really loved it but definitely has heat to it. The miso was fantastic ordered that as a little appetizer, and of course each curry came with a small amount of rice that was a perfect complement. We also had a Sapporo and they brought us a chilled glass for the beer, was truly a great combination. The staff there were super kind and attentive. Would definitely be dinning here again!

I watched in anticipation of Sala Thai opening up in our neighborhood. We went to the grand opening and the service was awesome, but (at the time) the food was good, but not great (but we also decided to give some grace since they were just opening and had a TON of people coming through). Before leaving, we privately shared feedback and they definitely took it to heart because BAAAAABBBBYYYYY!!! When we went back on a subsequent visit, the did NOT disappoint. A whole new expanded menu where EVERYTHING was hittin'..... YOU HEAR ME?!..... The crab rangoons (with REAL crab) were fantastic! Panang Beef..... EXCELLENT!!! Full of flavor, but it has a lil' kick to it! I can't even remember what my husband had but it was phenomenal. I love how this restaurant has continued to get better every time we've come. Sala Thai is a SOLID restaurant and welcomed addition to our neighborhood! Try them out when you can!

The first time I tried this restaurant, I went twice in one week. That's how much I love them lol. It's never packed when I come in, so service is pretty quick. I love their sushi options as well as the pad thai and the crab fried rice. I will definitely visit once a week lol.

The few reviews all seemed positive and I wanted to give it a shot - I'm so glad I did. I ordered from them for a week straight. All of the fish is SO fresh and tasty. The Sushi Jumbo for lunch is the perfect amount to keep you full and then some - I'm not particularly fond of salmon and saved those pieces for my friend the first day, but the second day i ate them and they were good! Not fishy but you could tell it was salmon (i can't explain the exact taste). The Yummy Yummy roll was so good. I wasn't a fan of the spicy chicken bowl, it wasn't to my liking. It was a little too ginger forward, and not spicy and overall wouldn't get it again. I've never gone in person, but the staff was able to accommodate the little roll included to be just tuna so that was nice. I can't wait to visit them in person.

Torai, is a lovely local sushi and ramen spot on Barracks Row where the sushi is reasonably priced, of great quality, and delicious. We are regulars here either dine in or take out. As they are amazing - the wait time for pick up tends to be long and unfortunately tends to be severely underestimated - thus, prompting the 4 stars. We've experienced multiple times where our wait time says 45mins and ends up being over an hour. After this past week where I waited outside in the cold with our pup while my husband went inside pick up food, that's when I really felt the extra time. If I could give any constructive feedback to management would be to look into revising your wait times and accuracy for pick up. If the max it allows you to put is 45 mins, and the wait is over an hour, that is a large gap.

What an experience!!…read more First things first... you absolutely need a reservation. They open them about three weeks out at midnight, and this is not a casual "I'll check tomorrow morning" situation. Set an alarm. Wake up. Question your life choices. Smash the reserve button. Go back to sleep. Because if you wait until breakfast, everyone else has already taken your sushi. And after eating here... I understand why. Omakase on Barracks Row turns tiny slices of fish into an entire evening. Every bite feels incredibly deliberate. The fish is delicate, beautifully prepared, and paired with different seasonings, spices, local ingredients, and whatever other culinary sorcery they're practicing behind that counter. Even better, somehow each piece seems to get better as the night goes on. You eat one and think, "Well, that's probably the winner." Then the next one shows up and immediately starts redecorating the podium. You'll end up with somewhere around 15 beautifully curated bites, plus several little surprises along the way. And yes, describing dinner as "15 bites" sounds like something I'd normally follow by stopping at Taco Bell on the way home... but this is different. It's paced perfectly and feels like an experience rather than simply a meal. There's genuine care and joy behind every piece they serve, and you can taste it. Absolutely worth setting a midnight alarm for. I could not recommend this place more.

I was in awe of how nicely plated and delicious everything was! The nigiri was so fresh and every piece melted in my mouth. After 19 courses I was comfortably full and not too stuffed. There are several tables on the first floor and a second floor devoted to table seating. My bartender was great and provided excellent service. They have pretty good happy hour specials as well--$3beers, apps decently priced. Overall really easy and nice experience. I popped in early on a Friday afternoon and found the place to be somewhat busy, but not too packed that I needed to make a reservation. I would suggest one if coming after six since it did pick up. My next foray on another weekend on the third floor (i believe it's called red lantern) was so fun. It's set up as a karaoke floor with TVs to see the lyrics and sing all around. The space is smaller, but tables are spread out for you to sit with your group. There's also a bar with a few seats if that interests you. You can order food and drinks and the song selection process is easy. I enjoyed a cocktail, a delicious Japanese take on a grilled cheese (which was amazing and like nothing I had before), and a Japanese whiskey cocktail. The bartender serving me gave me a Japanese whiskey tasting which was pretty unique. I'm a big fan of Japanese whiskey!
