Hands down my favorite place to get takeout sushi in DC! They are incredible. They have a Spicy Roll Combo that is my go to. It's 3 full sized rolls (Spicy Tuna, Salmon, and California) for $20. It's so much food and the perfect Spicy Rolls. I often re-order their Rock Shrimp Tempura, it's a lot of shrimp and tossed and a really incredible sweet/spicy sauce. I also love their Seaweed Salad (such a good portion size) and their Fried Rice. Really you can go wrong with anything, they never disappoint! read more

Isshin Asian Bistro is a good spot for a weekday lunch. If you're looking for something quick, affordable, and tasty then Isshin's range of Asian options will do the trick. I had the basil chicken lunch combo, which comes with the entree, rice, and a spring roll. I also ordered the hot and sour soup and was not disappointed by any of the offerings. If you come around when they open, all the food is fresh and hot. I did takeout on a Wednesday and was impressed by the decent portion sizes and quality of the food. This isn't going to be the best Thai (or Chinese, or Japanese) food you ever eat but it does the trick. The basil chicken had plenty of vegetables including onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms, and came with a sizable portion of rice as well. Decided to get delivery yesterday from a new sushi place and ended up finding my new favorite place!! I got the spicy roll combo that comes with 3 rolls and you choose between miso soup or salad. Also got the seaweed salad for an appetizer. The 3 rolls were generously filled with the filling and the miso soup came still warm, I didn't even have to heat it up! I've been ordering here for years, it was my favorite sushi place in the city, but they stopped delivering to my address just over the river. My guess is they changed their delivery policy around June of this year, but it's unfortunate because I was a regular customer (pretty sure I spent $1k plus, ordering about twice a month over the last few years), and I'm disappointed to lose the joy of ordering there. Great food I just wish they'd rethink their delivery radius and go back to their delivery policy from earlier this year that included Alexandria and towns just neighboring to DC. read more

I don't want to write this as a slight but more of a recommendation. The food is solid. Across the board, nothing was spectacular and different but nothing was bad. Solid. They are open late and I ordered carry out. If you want a solid meal, sushi, fried rice etc... they will get it done. A little slow to the prep but they had a line of DoorDash drivers so I'll give them grace. I didn't see anyone eating inside. And like I said I didn't eat inside either. I came here for lunch with some colleagues and they happily accommodated our party of 5 though the inside was set up more for take out only. I'd say the whole space could probably only seat about 15 people. I ordered the Las Vegas Roll which was one of the Chef's specials, not a lunch special. It came with cooked salmon and white fish (red snapper) and some cream cheese. It was a good size! However I also wanted raw fish so I tried someone's spicy salmon from the lunch special and it was pretty good too. The proportion of fish to rice is very good, not too much rice! I was very hungry so I also got a lunch plate of sesame chicken and white rice. I was surprised it came with an egg roll which was perfect as I was really hungry. I ordered a Thai iced tea as well. I left very happily full. If your goal is a good value for a meal, look no where else. This might not be my first choice for either Chinese food or sushi, but they have both and at a good price! So if you're looking for both, this place is a win. I've liked restaurants that were in this unit years ago but it kept changing so I'm hoping Isshin is here to stay. read more

Ever since moving I've been trying to find a good Chinese takeout place. Saw this when ordering delivery so decided to give it a try. I got the shredded chicken in garlic sauce and chicken lo mein. Delivery was easy and quick. The shredded chicken in garlic sauce was delicious! It does come with a side of white rice which wasn't mentioned when I was ordering online. It's not on the spicy side but still had a lot of flavor. The lo mein was ok, it seemed a little too salty and had a slightly weird aftertaste. I got takeout here on a random weekday and it was pretty good. They have a great lunch special, where you get an entrée, rice, and an egg roll for about $10. So for the cost, it was great. I got the General Tso's chicken with fried rice. The chicken was flavorful and well cooked, and the fried rice was pretty good too. It also had some steamed broccoli in it, which was a nice touch and made me feel a bit better about eating fried food for lunch. I didn't love the egg roll, but that could just be personal preference. The food maybe wasn't anything to write home about, but for the cost it can't be beat. read more

I got delivery for lunch late on a Friday afternoon while working from home, after realizing I hadn't had anything but coffee all day. Knowing I wanted noodles and also having a hankering for egg drop soup to soothe my allergy-irritated throat, I found Isshin Asian Bistro on Yelp, open and predicted to deliver pretty quickly. Perfect! I got the egg drop soup I was craving and ended up ordering Chicken Pad Thai noodles -- and some egg rolls to meet the delivery minimum. The food arrived hot and fast, and was ok! Honestly it really hit the spot given the circumstances. I mean I wouldn't say it was the most "authentic" Pad Thai or egg drop soup I've ever had- whatever that means in this context (but that seems to be a criterion that every Yelp reviewer has to mention so there you go!) The Pad Thai had a lot of sauce compared to most I've had - but I was starving and like saucy food (and people) in general, so it was pretty satisfying. And c'mon -- I'd just ordered a bizarre combination of Chinese and Thai food for quick delivery from what looks like primarily a sushi restaurant, so I'd call anything other than disappointing a success. read more

I love Isshin (even back when it was Wok & Roll) and have been ordering from it for years. They always deliver quickly (I was in Logan and now U Street) and it's always fresh and well made. I am so fortunate to live nearby. isshin is truly amazing. I was a fan of their before, when they were a wok and Roll, but now they have taken their game to another level. I started by just getting their Thai basil chicken for lunch. Then Kung pao, and finally the general Tsos. The latter is incredible, they use white meat which I prefer, and it's so perfectly breaded and tender. Usually Chinese take out chicken gets hard and stringy, but not their chicken. I would have ordered the Philly roll, but was told it only comes with salmon and cream cheese (I'm used to it also including avocado). So I got the salmon avocado roll instead. It did not disappoint. I wouldn't recommend the fried crab wontons if you're getting takeout. By the time I got home (~20 min walk), they were not as fresh. Could be great for dine in though! read more

All the main ingredients were as expected and tasted fresh but alas, the taste was totally lacking. Even the addition of soy sauce to the entrees was to no avail. It's as if the dishes, sullen at being underseasoned the first go around, declined any help. What to do?
