I can't give Sans Bakery enough compliments! Their service and care about items shipped is better than anyone I have dealt with past present and probably future. My sister wanted to order a Lamington cakes for my birthday. Brian made sure I was shipped what my sister had ordered; the six individual cakes that are wrapped(I thought it was the cake). However, UPS in their divine wisdom, deemed it necessary to ship them on a scenic tour. They didn't arrive on time for my birthday but that was NO FAULT of the bakery's. I want that to be perfectly clear. I reached out to Brian and while I was disappointed that I wouldn't get them on time he was so kind and empathetic that I couldn't stay upset for long. Again, I thought it was the regular cake and not the individual ones. Brian said he would ship replacements but once I saw they were the individual ones and confirmed they were still fine to eat, I was happy, my sister was happy, all was well. But Brian wasn't having it, he was unhappy that UPS failed us both. Imagine my surprise when a few days later I received another box of the Lamington cakes! I was not expecting that. I was perfectly fine with the outcome but Brian again is an amazing person and he didn't appreciate that this was a representation of his bakery by UPS's failings. So now I have plenty of Lamington cakes and they are freezable so I put a few away so I can enjoy them later. As far as being true Lamington cake like the original in Australia, it took me right back to Adelaide where I had my very first one! Oh my goodness they're so good! And did I mention they're gluten-free?! I cannot thank Brian and Sans Bakery enough for making my Unbirthday amazing and tickling my palette enough that I sent pictures to my cousin in Melbourne Australia taunting her a little. We picked up an assortment of pastries--a doughnut, a cookie, a couple of other items--and they were barely edible. Not "meh," but awful: soggy, leaden, flavorless. The cookie was the best of the bunch, but it was still bad; it tasted like a very mediocre cookie that had gotten wet (maybe it was just raw? Raw cookie dough can be delicious, though, and this was so far from delicious). At least it had some flavor--unidentifiable, but better than the bland sogginess of everything else. The doughnut glaze tasted like melted wax. None of these items really even tasted like food. I appreciate that different people have different tastes, but it's hard to imagine anyone actually enjoying these pastries. I don't think it has anything to do with them being gluten-free; they are just undeniably terrible. I'll admit that I'm curious about the lamingtons, which people seem to like; could Sans really make one good pastry? I don't think I'll ever find out, though, because there are plenty of bakeries in the area that make delicious pastries! read more

Excellent gluten free bakery hidden inside the Falchi building. While they do sell baked goods at their retail counter here, they primarily do wholesale business to coffee shops / restaurants around the city (e.g., Little Beet, Think Coffee). The retail counter is super small and easy to miss if you're not looking for it. When I visited, they had zucchini bread, banana bread, ginger bread, lamington, chocolate chip cookies, and ginger chew cookies available. Prices aren't cheap ($4.50 for a small zucchini bread) but that's the price of high quality, genuinely delicious gluten free goods. The zucchini bread I had would fare well against any non-gluten free zucchini bread - it was moist and flavorful and delicious. According to their website they can make custom cakes if you order ahead (at least 2 weeks) - perfect for that gluten free friend in your life. read more

I was in the mood for a sweet treat and I was nearby, so I decided to check Sans Bakery out, since they had so many good reviews. But boy was I in for a surprise! I got their banana bread, 2 blueberry muffins, their vegan brownie and the funfetti mini cake. I'm still in utter shock at how they've managed to remain in business. Each and every single item that I purchased was BAD... bland and gross. On my way home, I literally took 2 bites out of their brownie and I became nauseous. I've indulged in vegan, gluten free brownies many times in the past, from other shops and restaurants, and this was by far the worst brownie I've ever tasted. It's like they don't even try to make their baked "goods" good! I was soooooo mortified that I felt like HAD to write this review in and effort to warn others considering coming here. I have no idea how they've managed to get a single 5 star review.... or anything above 1 star for that matter. I know this review may seem excessive or extreme, but I'm seriously, absolutely disgusted, and I just think others should be able to learn from my mistake.
