I've been a regular at Miss Madeleine's for the past three years. In fact, Miss Madeleine's, in my humble opinion, has the best croissants in the city - a city, mind you, that is not short on French bakeries. To place this boulangerie among the top is a grand statement indeed, and I stand by it. Miss Madeleine consistently churns out freshly baked goods that you can smell half a block away. If you're lucky, you may arrive on a day when the bread baskets are being filled with items fresh from the oven, which was the case on my last visit. I come here for my favorite treat from the menu: the ham and cheese croissant. Flaky on the outside yet soft and custardy on the inside, cheese light and melty slathered all over the tender sliver of ham. Warm, of course, having been pulled out not too long ago from the oven. I've tried other goods from this shop, including the leek and chives pastry that is packed full of flavor, and a slice of pistachio cake, also delicious and not too sweet. I come here every few Saturdays when I stop at the local market they have on the same street. When there is good weather there is always a line but it's quick to get through. The baked goods come out fresh regularly, it's more likely your's will still be warm from the oven than not. The ham and cheese croissant is great but personally prefer the jam filled ones. The service is quick and perfect for grab-and-go. There's a small seating area, but most people tend to come in and out. Miss Madeleine is on my way to my dentist. At times there's a long line waiting to get inside. Today was quiet and I stopped to take photos before the dentist. After the dentist appointment I returned to eat. They have more than just sweets now so I really enjoyed a Croquet Monsieur. The service is great by a smiling friendly and knowledgeable employee. She knows the ingredients to help me control my allergies. The price is very reasonable. There's plenty of comfortable seats outside but I just stood at the counter to eat. We are fans of Caneles and have been looking for the best one in NYC for a while. My friends recommended us to give Miss Madeleine a try and we did not regret. Miss Madeleine is super popular in the neighborhood and due to the limited capacity, there is always a long line. You can enjoy the wonderful and appetizing smell of pastries while waiting. We got their Ham & Cheese Croissant, Madeleine, 4 boxes of Caneles and a cup of latte. Their pastries were delicate and amazingly delicious with reasonable price. The layer inside their croissant wasn't crispy, not the way we prefer but is still super soft and puffy. The Caneles, our main purpose of this visit, were the best because of the chewy texture with buttery flavors. We would like to try their quiche and almond croissant next time but we might come at an earlier time to beat the crowd. read more

I heard they had really good croissants so I went one morning (very early in the morning). There was no line and fresh croissants. They have a variety of flavors but I went with the original. I got 6 madeleines for $7.50 (discounted as you buy more). This is just personal preference but I thought they weren't really good despite the name. I tried the original, lemon, caramel, almond, and chocolate chip (they ran out of orange). The texture was too spongy, and the caramel may have been the best of the bunch, but the flavors felt muted. My favorite in NYC so far has been the Dominique Ansel ones. They did have a whole bunch of other French pastries that I might try if I'm in the area. What a wonderful little gem!! I came Monday morning and got one of their strawberry croissants (I don't know of any other place around that has something like that!). It was super good. Very doughy and soft inside with a bit of jam and crispy on the outside (doughy croissants are my fave). And for $3.50, pretty solid. I am totally coming back because there are a bunch of other things I want to try here!! I stumbled across this place bc I saw pinkies from afar & it looked like a place I needed to be at. This small French pastry place is located in the upper east side and has plenty of French pastries to choose from. On this occasion I settled for madeline, chocolate croissant & canele. I really loved the canele, which I ate before even thinking to take a pic. In my experience, it's hard to get this pastry right! This place does it exceptionally well. The chocolate croissant doesn't fall far behind. It is flaky buttery and the chocolate makes it that much better. My least favorite was the red velvet madeline. Super cozy, cute bakery! I love the strawberry, peach, chocolate, almond, and nutella croissants here. Ample layers, and the fruit jams are housemade I think. It's nice that they don't overstuff their pastries with the spreads/jams (too much is too sweet!), which I find tends to be a problem with American bakeries. Ask them to heat them up! Service is always fast, but make sure to get there early if you want the strawberry croissants since they run out fast. On Saturday mornings there's a long line outside for a reason. I've tried several different croissants and in my opinion there's one true standout star. It's not chocolatey or fruit filled. It's savory, not sweet. It's the bacon, egg and cheese croissant. I actually ordered it because they ran out of the spinach and cheese one that caught my eye. My am I glad. The bacon, egg and cheese croissant is perfection. The egg is creamy with little bites of soft bacon throughout. Last week I visited Miss Madeleine for the 1st time. It is a small place that I didn't find very exciting. Their selection, to me, seemed small and not that interesting. For what you get, it is also very expensive. I ended up with an eclair and cream puff. They were okay, but I have definitely had better. During pandemic it's one customer in the shop at one time, it's kinda good that even though you have to wait but you are the king/ queen once you are in the shop enjoying the AC and get all the attention (just one person works at there anyway lol).
