Located on one fo the sleepiest corners along Ditmars, Layers Bakeshop has made a name for itself for being one of the only late night dessert options in Astoria. Folks who are looking to satisfy their sweet tooth can score a cupcake, pastries and all of the above until midnight every night. While they utilize the natural lighting during the daytime, the evening is drowned out by this florescent lighting that makes me less interested in dining in. There is plenty of seating but just as awkward as the lighting is also the lukewarm service. It was like a late trip to the office, where the lighting was still on and not-so-theolled colleagues there to greet us. Thankfully their dessert selection is always on point. Their endless variety of cupcakes range from red velvet to biscoff and their custom cakes are impressive as well. True to their name, the "layered" sundaes are a perfect "dessert in a cup" option. Nutella and lotus are popular ones but the galaxy is the one to get. I've been told the brownies and donuts are also good, but I will reserve that for my next (late night) visit. read more

A friend ordered assorted cupcakes for delivery for a holiday get together, and in the spirit of the season we cut up each cupcake and shared so we each got to try several different flavors. There were 12 different cupcakes, almost the entire cupcake assortment. Visually they are mostly similar though maybe not the most aesthetically appealing with a single swirl of frosting and some messy zigzags or cookie crumbs on top. They definitely tasted better than they looked. Inside the cake crumb was moist and the frosting on top was fluffy and super smooth. Even as someone who's not a huge fan of frosting, the texture was so creamy and light that I ate most of it! Added comments for the ones I tried: - salted caramel : could taste the salted caramel clearly in the frosting, less in the cake - key lime : lime/citrus flavor wasn't very strong on this - red velvet : heard this was pretty standard - ferrero rocher : super rich and tasty - milk chocolate : also good, not sure if I clearly tasted milk chocolate here as compared to the other chocolate flavors - oreo cookie : both frosting and cake together was a little too sweet for me overall, though chocolate cake was good - swiss dark chocolate - more of a dark cocoa flavor and not as sweet - belgian malt chocolate - carrot cake - chocolate cream cheese - lotus bischoff - rafaello These were a hit and everyone at the party enjoyed them. At $3.50 per cupcake this wasn't too bad for single serving desserts, compared to some other places today, for the overall quality I'd order these myself next time! No issues with delivery either, it took about 45 minutes for cupcakes to arrive (the delivery location was about 20 minutes away driving from the host's home). read more

Open past 9pm with the most delicious looking cupcakes and other sweets. I needed something for my ride home from QED. Ended up going home with the Galaxy sundae. This was a cup of shortbread cookie crumbles, Oreo cookies crushed, cream cheese, chocolate and Nutella all layered and it was too good! The cupcakes are $3.50 while the brownies are $5 and the sundaes are $6.50. All very reasonably priced. Shout out the to, once again, incredibly patient person who helped us. After another amazing Astoria dinner we were in search of a pastry shop and coffees. This place was nearby so we tried it. Not a coffee place nor a typical bakery, they have a number of cupcakes and a variety of cakes. The brownies were quite tasty. And the cakes looked good though we were too full to order any. We did try some of the ice cream which we enjoyed and were surprised that a bakery would provide good ice cream. Unfortunately this wasn't the place to go for coffee. Aside from cold brew the only choice was a machine that provided sweetened and flavored coffees. So there's room for improvement. read more

I've always wanted to try the LI location so I was super excited when I heard they opened up in Astoria! I am a rainbow cookie fanatic AND THEY MAKE THEIR OWN ICE CREAM & guess what flavor they happened to have??? I decided to get one pint of rainbow cookie flavor and one pistachio flavor! They both were pretty good! I believe they are open till midnight so that's a bonus for those with late night cravings like myself hehehe I will definitely come back to try the other desserts! Mom and Pop shop that has a couple of locations scattered around New York City. The store is nice and bright what a good display of all their goodies. If you want cake though, please note that they do not sell slices though they do have an item where it's cake in a cup. I tried Cadberry milk cake and it's pretty rich and moist without being too sweet. I find that more American style bakeries tend to have a frosting that's pure sugar and this is, still sweet, but not sickly so. Prices are very reasonable, and the staff was very friendly. read more

Absolutely delicious Birthday Cake ! Ordered Red Velvet - 8" layer cake. My husband is a chef and he was blown away by the flavor and moistness of cake and the frosting / filling ! Me too ! I am picky about cakes and this one was awesome ! The owner worked with me on decoration : Golden Lab , and it came out perfect!! Communication was excellent and he was patient with my questions. Layers was marketed as Astoria's only Pakistani bakeshop, so we were eager to try it out after lunch at a nearby pizzeria. What we found on display was disappointing, short on options and quality. The strawberry didn't taste like strawberry. The chocolate was dry. The frosting and cakes tasted like they were vegan and gluten free. What a fun addition to the neighborhood! Bright and clean location with super friendly staff that were helpful suggesting flavors and answering all of my questions. They have 3 other locations on Long Island and their cakes/frosting are lighter than other options around. I got the salted caramel and Belgian malt - but so many other flavors were calling to me! A lot of the frosting is cream cheese based but it is whipped, light and airy. As a sweets person who doesn't *love* cream cheese frosting, I enjoyed the texture and flavor of this kind. FYI, the cupcakes are heavy on the frosting (as you can see) so I would take that into consideration when ordering. I don't mind but I know some people do. Anyway, I will definitely be back to try more. I am looking forward to trying their "sundaes" which are layered cake cups. Just moved into the Queens/Astoria area and I haven't taken the time to explore yet but I did see this place on insta and wanted to give it a try. It's actually closer to my boyfriend so I had him pick some things up before he met up with me. We got 4 cupcakes; the carrot cake, swiss dark chocolate, salted caramel, and Ferrero Rocher. Along with the galaxy sundae and the strawberry cheesecake. Cupcakes first - so it looks like there's a lot of cream and frosting which there is BUT they do really goes with the cake part. Although, this is all different for each cupcake, I noticed for the carrot cake and salted caramel the frosting was lighter and fluffy while the chocolate cupcakes' frosting was heavier and more dense. Not too sure if it's due to it being chocolate but I personally would have like it to be light as well. All the cupcake , cake itself are pretty moist and not overly sweet. Actually the cupcakes aren't too sweet overall. The sundae (which isn't really a ice cream sundae) is like a layered cake in a cup. Each layer is something different and has a different texture. It was good but for me that was too sweet for me and I got tired of it TBH. I haven't tried the ice cream yet so review of that soon to come! read more

A new bakery has popped up in Astoria a few stores down from tellys taverna and it's worth a visit. Nice and bright with plenty of tables and cushion chairs to sit while you enjoy some sweet treats. Cup cakes , brownies , PIES, CAKES, ice cream , pudding cups and much more .it's chocolate paradise here as Nutella, Belgium chocolate , hazelnut, etc, in he mix plenty in the products .All is displayed in the covered glass displays and the staff are more then happy to give a bit of what's what's in each treat . I picked up 6 assorted small cupcakes and a white chocolate looking type cake which was 40 bucks and worth every penny. You won't find low quality sweets here and many folks including myself appreciates that . Slices are good but they are sweet! They sell out quickly so go early to see what you want they do have a variety of options. The coconut slice was very good but still sweet. The ice cream is homemade in LI but beware it is full of junk.
