The club administrators do a great job of sharing the schedules of both practices and games/tournaments. We joined SJX after some bad experiences with other clubs and were happy to see our child enjoy going to each practice and make some great (hopefully lifelong) friends. The only knock, and why not a five-star plus experience, is that the club is popular and has a lot of kids. This leads to coaches working with larger groups. They do their best, but there are limits. One reason the club is so large is that they are the best option in the critical phase when you are starting and quickly developing as a player. Another downside is that if your player progresses to a high level, it would make sense to look at other options where more high-level teammates and tournaments accelerate and improve chances of playing at the highest levels. But this only really applies to those "star players" and likely not to those writing and reading a Yelp review before joining.

It instills values every growing child needs to learn, experience, and carry with them beyond the pool. Coach Nicole(10U) is truly exceptional--sharp, deeply committed, firm when needed, and always willing to go above and beyond for the kids. She lives and breathes the game, and what our son has gained under her guidance has far exceeded our expectations. If we were asked to make the same decision about SJX today, we would do so without hesitation--just as we did three years ago.

They spent 2 months twirling my boys in the water with zero swim instruction. No breath work, no blowing bubbles, no monkey crawls, and no systematic plan for progression. My second issue is this place is unbelievably unorganized. Communication is either nonexistent or confusing. They switch times without notice and don't show up to lessons. One time my son's lesson got cut 15 min short because the swim teacher had to use the bathroom. We paid $50 for a 10 minute lesson. Wait, there's more. One day they were giving out snacks. With my permission and supervision, my 5 yr old carefully walked around the pool to ask for snack. The staff freaked out on him because they thought he was unsupervised. I tried to wave at them to let them know i was watching him but they kept raising their voices at him telling him to go back to his mom. He got a little scared because he didn't know what he did wrong and he ran back to me. That triggered the head coach, Kim. She screamed at him from the middle of the pool and humiliated him in front of everyone. Then, she turns around and screams at me like I am a child. She made quite a scene and was so disrespectful. My son was so humiliated he curled up on my lap and quietly cried. There was an older woman next to me shaking her head in disbelief. My son was devastated the whole car ride home. I understand they want to enforce pool safety but that is not the way to do it. they blew the whole situation out of proportion. At this point, I was just sticking it out because I already paid for a months worth of lessons. They switched us to the rise collective pool which was cold, crowded, and had dead mice. The owner scooped them out like no big deal while a bunch of little children were swimming in the pool. This wasn't anyone's fault but it just added to our horrible experience. So I decide to end our lessons. On our last lesson my kids show up excited and surprise, surprise. No one showed up to give lessons. There are three other kids without a teacher. So the head coach Kim steps in and my 5 yr old refuses to get in with her because she was so mean to him in the past and the water is freezing. My 3 yr old was brave enough to get in the cold water but he was miserable so we cut our losses and left early. We signed up for private lessons elsewhere and my kids made more progress in one day than they did at quick silver in two months. I normally don't write long reviews complaining but I feel like this place is a scam and other people need to know. Quicksilver is all about quantity over quality. They just churn out lessons and collect the money. They have no ability to actually teach kids how to swim.

I watched very closely each time as I had to be the volunteer timer at these meets. I pulled my kids out after 1+ year as I don't see much stroke or time improvement. We first started coming when my son was around 1.5 yrs. We were doing the parent/child swim class…read more Covid hit, they closed and we stopped attending. About a year ago we signed back up. There are a few things that I wish were different. Because the group classes are 3 kids to 1 instructor, each kid is only getting about 10 minutes of working time. The rest of the time they are sitting in the steps while the instructor works with the other kids. Secondly, it does seem like the instructor turn around is high. My son has gone through 3 instructors in as many months. It also would be helpful if we knew when/how often they are tested for advancement. I initially thought it was once a month, but I don't think that's the case. If they tested the last week of the month on a monthly basis would be nice. Third, and the one that bugs me the most is they don't enforce their "No shoes on the pool deck" policy. It's a great rule, but not great if it's not enforced. Every class parents come into the shower area with their street shoes on. I'm sorry, but for the safety of the kids (and adults adhering to the policy) shoes should be taken off. It is so gross to imagine what is in the bottom of their shoes and my kid and I are walking all over that in wet, bare feet. And it's not like people don't know or that the signs are hidden. The signs are posted on the door leading to the shower and pool area. Other than that, the instructors are nice, but for the price it's a little steep, especially if I'm paying for 30 minutes and only getting 10 minutes of instructional time. I like the convenience of its proximity to where I live, but I may start looking for a different swim school .
