I happened to see this advertised on Groupon and figured I'd check it out. It was normally about…read more$15 a ticket plus fees but I snagged a deal off of Groupon so it was pretty much free. Pro-tip: be sure to park further away as ANY event at the fairgrounds will cost you $10 and in CASH ONLY. In addition to the cover charge, you have to buy $5 vouchers which get you sample sized items from all vendors that were put on. It is somewhat of a glorified food truck event. There were only a few places that weren't food trucks. I didn't really like the voucher system as not all vendors accepted them for things like desserts. I ended up having to trade my voucher back for cash toward the end. It would just be easier to hand the vendors cash for all the items, but apparently the vendors only get like $3 out of the $5 paid for the vouchers. I guess the cover charge isn't enough for the event hosts? It's basically just like any other food festival but overpriced if you're paying for the cover charge and parking. It's not a huge event. You come, try a few things and leave or look at some of the little shops.

That to one got blown away. lol. So disappointed we drove 30 minutes to get to someone's backyard. My best advice is to just go check out the light house show in Rocklin your kids will love it. I would never recommend it to anyone looking for a positive theatre environment. In my opinion, the company cares far more about money than the kids. There are fees for what feels like everything, and parents are expected to volunteer and help with almost everything they do. It never felt like enough unless you were giving them more time or more money. The building was also often very dusty, and it didn't always feel like the healthiest environment to be spending so many hours in. The favoritism was unbelievable. I watched the same people get opportunities over and over while others who worked just as hard were constantly overlooked. I was there for years and never got a role that reflected the amount of effort I put in, which made it feel like talent and dedication didn't matter nearly as much as being one of the favorites. There was also constant drama, and from my experience, people would get pulled into private rooms and be accused of things they didn't do without feeling like they were given a fair chance to explain themselves. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere where people were scared of getting in trouble over rumors or misunderstandings. I also found it very unprofessional that staff members would speak negatively about students behind their backs. Hearing adults who are supposed to support children gossiping and saying hurtful things about them was incredibly disappointing. Overall, I left feeling like this company had serious issues with favoritism, professionalism, communication, and how they treated students. In my opinion, the only reason it continues to be successful is because it has a large budget and strong financial support, not because it provides a good experience for its performers. Based on my own experience over several years, I would strongly encourage parents and young performers to look into other theatre companies before choosing this one.

Tomorrow evening I am very excited to attend their summer production of Disney's The Little Mermaid! They cast fairly and they cast talented kids, teens, and adults for parts, depending on the show. There is an emphasis on quality and professionalism, but also on fun, learning, and inclusiveness. I just LOVE that about McLaughlin Studios! Not only do they do full Main Stage Productions at McLaughlin, but they also offer Junior Musical Programs and Mini Musical Production Workshops for all ages. The owners have been in business for decades and have a very extensive resume to boot. They like to give back in a phenomenal way, and often you will find fundraisers and local vendors when you visit for shows. I love coming to shows at McLaughlin and supporting the Loomis Community! A note about parking: It will fill up if you do not arrive early for theatrical productions! There is plenty of street parking on Swetzer Road if this happens.

I got an opportunity to wander around the rib-fest, and despite the grey skies people were having a wonderful time. There were 5 rib vendors and wish there were more, for a rib festival I expected a few more vendors, but Lincoln is not a big metropolis and the ribs that were coming out of the smokers were tasty. Unfortunately, the most popular one (or at least the one with the biggest line and hype), seemed to have misjudged the crowd and there no racks comin' off the smoke and a 20-30 minute back log so we moved on. We went to another green-tented place and got an order of spare ribs and a side of beans for $7...an extreme value considering the heft of these spare ribs and the amount of fatty (in a good way) meat. These ribs had a wonderful smoke ring, as well as a nice char from finishing on the grill. The beans were run-of-the mill Sysco-style. They could have used more of everything, but weren't bad as a palatte clenser between mouthfuls of meat. In addition to the rib joints, were hot dog vendors, beer tents, animal shelters, solar companies, electric car dealerships, and a myriad of other crafts and booths hawking their wares. They also had the "classic" classic car show and great line up of local bands... Awesome. I have been spending more time in Lincoln recently and the town likes to show off their classic cars and music. Considering this festival is put on in a smaller town (approximately 40K people), and the junky weather, there was a terrific turn out. If you are in (or near) Lincoln next year and feel like escaping to a time where everyone in town knows each other, pack the wetnaps, grab the wife, kids, dogs, and anyone/thing else you think might like this event and hit up Lincoln for some truly, "All-American" fun at the Rib Festival.

I corresponded with them via phone and email for a while as we worked on setting a day and time for a trial lesson. My daughter had a blast with Sara and it was easy to see why. For starters, Sara has the voice of an angel (or as far as my daughter is concerned, a Disney Princess). So yeah.. trusted her skills implicitly, right off the bat. Then I noticed how supportive, loving and encouraging Sara is toward a healthy self esteem for her students. Constantly and consistently praising and if there is something that needs changing, Sara would praise what was done and then add "now why don't we try it like this, can you try it like this?" Sara is perfectly gentle in her approach. I love her teaching style especially for a little girl who (although loving), is as shy and timid as can be. I could go on and on about why this was so incredibly perfect of a fit for us, but I should have at least said enough to encourage you to give a trial lesson a shot.

They also had lots of vendors selling gift related items, to get you started on your holiday shopping, and offered complimentary samples as well! I tried some deliciously flavorful Mandarin Olive Oil, Balsamic and sweet Orange Blossom Honey from the Colwell Thundering Herd Ranch booth and purchased some cards made by a local artist from the Cloudy Art Studio booth! As well as entered into their raffle to win some beautiful hand towels and cards! For lunch I ordered some deliciously flavorful and perfectly sauced Eggplant Lasagna from Rubinos Ristorante Booth and will definitely be checking out their restaurant in Rocklin now! I would highly recommend attending the festival and don't forget to pick up your free Eggplant before you leave, I cannot wait to try mine and see what next year has in store!

The kids support and encourage one another, (despite age differences, and regardless of roles). For shows, they are paired up with buddies who can walk them through the process or send them encouraging notes, etc. they focus on character development, and how kids learn what I would consider to be important qualities, such as discipline, resilience, kindness, etc. Even the parents get to join in on the fun, as parent involvement/volunteering is required for shows. I've really enjoyed connecting with other theater moms and dads and working together on parent teams. I also like that parents are not involved in the classes. That means if your kid wants to do theater and you don't have the time to volunteer, you still have options for them. The teachers are passionate and highly capable. From what I've seen, they are immensely talented in their own fields. Each time one of my children takes a class, they definitely come away knowing more than they went in knowing, and it shows in their performances. Our oldest child has been involved with CYT over the past couple of years, and we have seen great growth in her singing and dance abilities, as well as her drive and work-ethic. We're definitely excited to introduce the siblings to CYT.
