Tried Santiam Brewing today and admittedly had high expectations due to all the great reviews on here and it BLEW MY MIND! OmG the Mac n' Cheese with their house made beer cheese was no joke, the BEST I've ever had. We chose to add on bacon and jalapeño and it took it to the next level. I could live in that. And then they brought out the fish and chips, to die for. Old school beer batter done to perfection. The Aussie Pie was bursting with flavor and the crust was flaky and delicious. Went to Santiam Brewing and have to say that the fish n chips were heavy with breading and the oil seems old as it had the burnt taste to it. The Shepherd Pie, which my wife got, was meh. Not a really bad meh - just not something that you walk away saying now that is a good Shepherds pie. We ordered onion rings but they never showed up. It may have been the day or some thing that just didn't work out for us. The people were nice and friendly. Try again another time. read more

Hidden in an industrial complex, Santiam Brewing is excellent. The restaurant is housed within the brewing facility. Specializing in British food with plenty of American food, we found the food to be delightful. We had the Scotch Eggs and the Steak and Ale Pie, both were delicious. The service was casual and friendly. We are not sure you can find excellent English food anywhere else in Oregon. Well worth the search to find it. Hidden gem! My brother and I were looking for a restaurant to eat lunch when a Yelp search revealed Santiam Brewing. We are from out of town and had no prior knowledge of Santiam, just a hungry stomach and a desire for good beer. This place far exceeded our expectations. The beer selection was great, the atmosphere friendly and warm, and the fish and chips . . . Simply delicious. My brother and I both considered them the best fish and chips we have had in recent memory - possibly ever. The portions were generous, the breading was crisp and flavorful, and the pieces just melted in your mouth with intense flavor and texture. I always enjoy this spot. It's kind of a hidden gem, easily missed because its located behind another building. Yet they always seem to be busy! They offer plenty of beer options, cocktails and food. This is a big spacious area and they even have a back room where sometimes you can see meetings being held. They offer a fun beer flight with a large diverse option of beer. This is a fun lively place. They also offer the option to purchase beer to go. This a great location to unwind and enjoy some great beer! read more

Already gave them 5 stars when I first reviewed them 4 years ago, and they are even better now. They have added their own kitchen and have been serving up the most amazing British Pub Fare! Fish and Chips, Scotch Eggs, Curry Bowl, and fantastic pies, they even have weekly specials from Aussie Hand Pies, steak and kidney, and a phenomenal lamb shank pie. The pinnacle of my love for this place came when they started offering a Full English Breakfast even including a very well seasoned and perfectly cooked Black Pudding. They have an American Pub side of the menu as well for those who prefer burgers and fries to fish and chips. They have been doing some amazing work with the Willamette Humane Society on certain evenings bringing in kittens that need human socialization and raising money for the shelter. It's unfortunate. We came because of positive Yelp reviews, and would have loved to get to sample what everyone is raving about, but after waiting an hour and a half and seeing people seated well after us receiving their food, eating it and leaving, we finally had to drop some cash on the table for the Welsh rarebit (which was good, mind you) and sodas. With their "choose your spot" policy, there must not be a clear enough delineation in orders back in the kitchen. The kitchen is distant from the dining area and a different person delivers food than took your order, which means they don't have the time sense to realize when a party has been missed. Perhaps a little organizing rehaul (or a location more conducive to a restaurant space) would make the experience better. As it was, it was embarrassing to repeatedly apologize to my family about choosing a restaurant based on Yelp reviews while we took a 90 minute pitstop on our way to Tillamook and ended up getting burgers at Dairy Queen because my boys were starving. read more

Santiam Brewing has some of the best brews in the Salem area. The food is always incredible, but they have a limited menu for those with dietary restrictions. With that being said, they offer an array of food that is rare and hard to come by in the area. Their service is always kind, and fun to chat with, but can be a bit slow or distracted when things are busy. I say this only as a tip to not be afraid and flag someone down if you need them! First time indoor seating. Went with my wife on my birthday and I ordered the Aussie pie and she had the haddock fish and chips. Her fish was, according to her, the best she's had since she left Scotland...large fillet done properly, not over-breaded, no bones at all, large fries(chips) and seasoned perfectly. My Aussie pie was perfect! Beef, cheese and onions and gravy cooked perfectly and baked in a tender, flaky dough with enough gravy to keep it savory and delicious without being messy or sloppy. Fries were very good as well, although I am just ok with the mushy peas. They were kinda bland. All in all, I would definitely suggest trying this place for a great meal. Anytime. read more

4.5 stars for the food. 1 star for the service. We are trying various restaurants around Salem to order takeout and support them through the crisis. We tried Santiam Brewing as we had heard good things about the food. The pies and pasty we ordered were as good, even better, than those we had in England and Scotland. Crisp crust and tasty filling. The gravy was good but a little salty. Very disappointed in the service. First they forgot to pack the beer that was included with the pasty. We caught that before leaving the parking lot, so it was an easy fix to get it. Got home to find no mushy peas with any of the dishes. I phoned to report this and was told they were busy and would call back. One of the owners did call, apologized and said they were out of mushy peas. He asked for my email and said he would email a couple coupons to use when the sit down area re-opens. A week later I've not received them. We won't return because of the service. read more

I had this British obsession and trying food due to watching too many British cook off episodes on Netflix so when I tell you my excitement when I was searching for something to eat and saw this? Bet! It is located in a weird area and sort of tucked away, but they have very cute outdoor seating. Inside looks like a cute little bar with games and lovely pictures that give off a vibe. I'm guessing g they have breakfast, lunch and dinner menu since I didn't see the ones I wanted, but it was fine. We ordered different pies and pastries and of course the fish and chips. The meat pies were very interesting! I had a stew like pie and there was one that had hamburger meat and cheese. Came with mushy peas? I've never had that before, but it just reminded me of bland baby food heh. Also gave chips the fish and chips portion? HUGE! The fish was seasoned and flaky to perfection! Took chum there yesterday. Ordered Haddock and chips. I agree with the reviews. The fish was delightful. Flakey and moist on the inside and crunchy and well-seasoned on the outside. Chips were what I felt a negative. First off, for the price point of $22.00, were barely enough to be shown under the fish. That's pretty chintzy for fish and chips. Secondly, they were not properly seasoned. So this was a real let down. I would also think that there needed to be another item on the plate that was included in the price. There were options that you could have added for an additional cost. But, for what you got for the $22.00 to add an additional amount making the simple plate over $25.00, the meal would not be worth it. It just appeared spartan for the price. Having said these things, they did offer a wide variety of condiments from a full array of hot sauces to catsup to malt vinegar. Personally, I am not a beer drinker. However I did find two after a tasting that I really liked and would order again. Service was good. The place was clean and had a place for darts. All in all, the food was very good. We stopped here on the way home from Lincoln City to Portland. Menu looked pretty good and website said it had a kids play area. After eating at multiple restaurants this weekend without a play area this was much appreciated. The play area is just a small area with a train table but that's all they really need. It is in the corner so it won't bother other patrons without kids. The place is a little hard to find because there aren't any large signs and it's located in an industrial park. The beer list is fantastic and the food was really good too. Go on Sunday for happy hour all day! All in all, we had a great experience! read more

The space is really awesome with high ceilings and lots of random metal art and fun lighting; we were trying to plan a reason to come back to Salem to spend an evening drinking here, but Salem, itself, isn't really a destination. Oh well! The Black Sheep catering had a bunch of tasty-looking stuff on the menu and we got nachos, which were pretty good, but very small, even for the happy hour price of 7.50. The guy walking around the taproom looking to take orders was really...stoic. Didn't respond well to my niceties, but he's not representing Santiam, so whatev. Stopped by here while on vacation based on a recommendation we got while doing a wine tasting. The fish and chips came highly recommended but the 11 ounce fish serving was simply too large for my wife or me. The waiter had no problem offering to let us split the order and provided us with two plates to make it easy. Between us we finished the fish but still left a few fries unfinished. Fish was great, nice and flaky with a little kick in the batter. I had the ESB which was very nice and my wife had the Pilsner which she really liked. All around a nice dinner. read more
