The Birria tacos were nicely made and reasonably priced but I don't know why $2.75 for consommé. You don't pay for it with a French Dip and you don't need a coffee mug portion. While in Imperial Beach for another event recently, I made a stop at Santo Placer for a meal before heading back north. I don't know what the previous establishment was, but the standalone building had a large on-site parking lot which is always beneficial. The inside decor was beautiful, highlighted by a faux tree with white flowers in the middle of the dining room. The ambiance was pretty fancy for Mexican cuisine. Brunch was being served during my weekend visit so only half of the menu was available. A Culichi Omelet was what I chose for an entree. The filling was shrimp and mozzarella cheese topped with culichi sauce made up of roasted poblano peppers, jalapeno, and garlic. A green salad and a scoop of Mexican rice came as sides to the dish. The shrimp were concentrated on one side of the omelet with four pieces total. The creamy sauce was the star of the show. Tortillas were also provided but for unknown reasons, the corn variety was complimentary while there was a surcharge if I wanted flour-based wraps. The biggest issue I encountered was the preparation time. The kitchen took at least 20 minutes before the item was brought to my table even though the place was less than half full. The prices were on the high side, however that reflected the more upscale nature of the restaurant. My waitress was very polite and helpful in answering the questions I had about the menu offerings. I gave a 3.5 star rating for my dining experience at Santo Placer. read more

Santo Placer "Holy Place" Mexican Cuisine I had been watching this place being remodeled from the former Pizza Hut , I drive by nearly everyday on the way to work. We were heading to IB and I spotted the open sign and cars in the parking thinking ok let's pull in. Walking in I was totally surprised to see how nice the restaurant is , we were pleasantly greeted and seated immediately. A DJ was cranking out continuous tunes and our waiter took our drink order as we looked the large menu. They have a full bar and a very large selection of wine and liquor and mixed drinks . We selected the Chile Relleno de Camaron Al Mango and the Carne de su jugo. My wife's shrimp Chile relleno with mango was very tasty which included a side salad. She said everything was delicious. My meal was steak cooked in bacon and tomatillo sauce and included beans de la olla . The blend of spices with the tomatillo sauce was mouthwatering, a slice of jalapeño and green onion pulled all kinds of flavors out of the steak and beans in tomatillo sauce. I savored every bite , the corn tortillas were fresh and warm which I munched on after ever savory spoonful. I didn't need any salt, pepper or salsa as the spices in the meal tasted incredible and I devoured every last trace of my meal. I almost mopped up my bowl with a tortilla. Once done we split a Flan desert to change our pallet. I am so glad we were able to stop and explore this new restaurant. The restaurant was brand new, newly build , Ulta clean , large staff and great short wait time. Thank you Santo Placer for the great dining experience. We will be back !! read more

The overall look and decor of this place is really nice, decorated beautifully with several tv screens playing music around the establishment. Came here on a weekend and it was a little busy. Our service was a little slow but it might have been on account of how busy it was. Ordered the chicharron and guacamole, along with the pancakes, eggs Benedict, and chipotle shrimp. The guacamole was delicious! Tried the pancakes and those were really good. My brother ordered the eggs Benedict and said they were some of the best he's ever eaten. My chipotle shrimp dish was ok. It took them almost 40 minutes to bring us some of our food our appetizer which was chicharron with guacamole did not come in till after we were done eating. The establishment got full and they started serving other people while we were still waiting for the other half of our order. The family of a worker in this establishment got their food and left in the same amount of time we were still waiting. In total we spend almost an 1 and a half for us to eat and leave. Even to get the check it took them a while to bring it to us. Overall terrible service. Some of our items never even made it to the table. read more
