Been on my list for a hot second and finally got a chance to come out. Indoor seating is narrow but air conditioned which is a huge plus for hot summer days. Plenty of outdoor seating. Shop is small so don't walk too quick. You'll miss it. Menu is small but tried and true. Workers speak Spanish and English. Very laid back spot. Great for a quick bite and lunch. All tacos hit. But, the carnitas was, by far, the most flavorful. You get slight mix of variety in texture. Meat on all cuts is very tender. A bit on the salty end and the avocado sauce lacked some of creaminess that I expected. But still very good tacos. Come try it out. If you don't eat pork or meat, you're missing out. I had heard so much about Santo Taco and the hype surrounding their Mexico City style tacos, so I had to see what all the hype was about. Luckily, there was no line when I arrived, and I ordered their most popular Trompo Steak Taco, along with the Chicken and Carnitas tacos, to go. It's always wonderful when an ordinary looking little spot turns out to be delicious. This understated eatery is a must try when in the village and wanting prime Mexican food. There are several tables outside on the street and a few at a counter inside. The staff is great and turn out your orders very quickly. The woman who took our order was sweet and gave me a tester of a drink they had on the menu when I inquired if it was good. The drink is called Agua Santa (it's absolutely refreshing) which is a blend of kiwi, cucumber, lime & palo santo. A must try, the guacamole and chips. I had the steak trompo taco and it's easily one of the better, more authentic steak tacos in NYC. The meat really speaks for itself no need for all the extras. The chicken and pork carnitas tacos are solid too simple, consistent, and enjoyable but the steak trompo is the standout and what I'd come back for. Slightly confused when I first got there as the exterior is of a diner, but don't be confused, you are in the right place. There is no table service, so you need to join the line to place an order. Each order of a taco is only one and they will call out the number for you. We got a selection of the tacos, and would recommend the chicken and steak tromp ones. The guac and chips were also good. These were so good! I didn't know before going here that santo taco is the only place to do a steak trompo. Definitely recommend the trompo as that is what they are known for. I tried the santi's steak trompo, pork carnitas, and a mushroom taco. All were delicious, made to order, and I loved adding some of the spicy smoke sauce, hot sauce and chicharrones to it. The tiny limes were the perfect size for each too! The one that really surprised me was the mushroom taco, I actually enjoyed it more than the pork carnitas. Very solid taco place, we're finally spoiled with great CDMX taco places in NYC. 5-10 years ago this might have been the best taco place in the city, now it's in the top tier, but not alone. I didn't even know this place existed until my friend enthusiastically insisted that we must try it . And I really thought, "How good could tacos be? It's just tacos." Boy was I so wrong! I only tried the steak tacos and they were amazing. I never had a taco like that. The steak was cut in a way so that it was thin and delicate but yet full of flavor. And usually I don't like corn tortillas, but their freshly made corn tortilla almost had a nice chewy texture and was actually delicious. They also have really great sauces and toppings for your tacos. Their sauces weren't too spicy, which was nice because I was able to enjoy them. They had chicharron as a topping, which was my first time seeing this. They also had a raw onion mixtures to put on your tacos. And I loved their agua fresca drink ($6) - pineapple, cucumber, lime, palo santo). So refreshing and delicious! I wish I lived nearby so that I could have these tacos whenever I want. For those who live nearby, I envy you! So, if you are in the area and you want a snack or a meal, you should definitely check this place out. Having come from the land of tacos in LA, always excited to try any new taco spot that pops up. Santo Taco is a quick service taco stand in SoHo that opened up fairly recently. Came in on a Saturday and was able to order fairly quickly at lunch time. Tried the Trompo taco ($6.95) and the pork carnitas taco ($5.95). Pricewise, similar to los tacos but a sliver of beef and paying an extra dollar for it seems a little steep. In terms of the taste, I do think the meat was seasoned well in both tacos and the tortillas did not fall apart immediately and did at a good corn flavor. The trompo taco was great with the avocado salsa, bordering a little on being too acidic but still a good bite. Their carnitas taco was also solid. Would probably prefer raw onions and cilantro instead of the pickled onions, you could add some chicharrón for some salty crunch which was a nice surprise. Overall good, maybe a little steep in terms of price. Would not go out of my way to come here for tacos, but if in the area would definitely consider eating a taco or two again. read more

We came here on a Thursday around 1pm, line was short, we were at the counter in less than 5min. We got all the tacos except the mushroom one. They gave you a number, and when your food was ready, your number was called and you grab the food from the counter yourself. My favorite was the steak taco, meat was tender and juicy, and the green salsa on top just added the right amount of tartness. I love spice so I had to pour some of their black habanero sauce on top of my tacos. Carnitas was delicious was well, again meat was the star here. Perfectly cooked and well seasoned. When I compare the tacos here with Los tacos, I think here they really let the meat and corn tortillas shine, without all the extra add-one. They have plenty of outdoor seating, and about 7 or 8 stools inside with AC. Turn over was quick so I didn't see a long line of ppl waiting for tables at all. The chicken thigh meat was tender and flavorful with the subtle fruitiness of the pineapple marinade. The addition of the pickled onions and avocado salsa were perfect.
