We did a little research on nearby restaurants and came across Santos Mariscos. We were craving for some fresh seafood. As soon as we arrived, I instantly liked the sheltered outdoor seating. The host, Leonardo, warmly welcomed us and told us we can sit anywhere. Then our server, Hugo, displayed their lavish premium seafood to us. It was super cool to listen to his brief presentation. We placed our orders and soon afterwards we were enjoying our dinner. The service was pretty good with them checking on us but when it came to time for the check, our server got really busy so we had to flag him down. The mariscos here are amazing -- Super fresh, full of flavor, and prepared perfectly every time. The surf & turf burrito is another standout... it's packed, juicy, and honestly one of the best I've tried anywhere. The restaurant itself is very clean, comfortable, and welcoming, but what really made the experience even better was our server, Yair. He was incredibly attentive from the moment we sat down -- constantly checking in without being pushy, making sure we had everything we needed, and giving great recommendations. We ended up here because the restaurant we wanted was closing and this was open later. The price seems high for what it was but I could see it being an off night. Wow! This place has really good prices for everything they deliver. Lots of flavor. The pico de gallo is the best I've ever had! The marlin tacos were delicious! For dessert the mamey ice cream is so good. Ive never had that fruit before. The service was so friendly and professional and fun to talk to. I would recommend this place to anyone. Entrees can be hit or miss. I wish I would have ordered the marlin tacos as my meal because the crab was too hard to eat cause it was small crabs but a large portion. This place is amazingly delicious with incredible service! Found this spot on Yelp while I was searching for fried fish. It's a large patio coveted restaurant with a full bar & TVs. We started off with drinks - rum punch & horchata. Both were really good! Best horchata I've had during our trip & I had A LOT! Hubby had the rum punch & he loved it! Got a nice buzz off of it. They brought out tostada chips, crackers & pico, which was actually pretty spicy. We ordered the Seafood for 2 persons which is a seafood platter cooked to your liking. The platter consisted of 2 lobsters (grilled with chili garlic), whole fried red snapper (garlic butter) 3 butterflied huge shrimps (grilled, garlic butter) & 3 battered fried shrimps (we opted for more shrimp instead of crayfish). The sides were rice, veggies & garlic bread. Everything was prepared so simple yet so delicious! Nothing was overcooked at all. Our server also brought out marlin ceviche before the platter. I think he said it came with our platter? We were too stuffed for dessert but we were offered a shot of tequilla on the house to end the night. The staff was incredible! GREAT Customer Service. Starters: We were serviced by multiple people and our tostadas were always filled. Table salsa was fresh and delightful. Menu is short and sweet as I like it, doesn't overwhelm you like other PV restaurants. We ordered 3 types of ceviche, the mixed, octopus and marlin. FYI Marlin ceviche is red and is warm. The other cold ones were good but I prefer more lime in my ceviche if you're into that. Mains: Ordered the red snapper for 2 and the seafood mixed chili garlic special. Red snapper was beautiful cooked, large portions and the skin was delectable. Crunchy, flavorful and the meat was flaky, clean and moist. The seafood special had tons of flavor but a bit dry. Leo, our new friend!!! Leo is the man. He made our experience dining here so much better. We were actually headed to a different spot, walked pass this place and thought, hm this looks nice. Let's try it. There were plenty of tables available since we were late for lunch and early for dinner so the time was very off. But we were in luck because Leo gave us all his attention. We loved it. First off, their complimentary salsa (simple fresh pico) is delicious. Big fan. They bring you extra if you ask. We ordered: Guac - 10/10 small portion but really good Vegetarian fajitas - 7/10 big portion but it was ok; nothing special 1 person sea bass - 8/10 comes grilled with your choice of seasoning. We picked spicy garlic. Wasn't spicy and flavor was just right. Comes whole fish so you have to remove fish bones and everything yourself. Worth checking it out on your trip! read more

When our food was served, I knew I was going to have an issue. The fajitas weren''t grilled - they were sitting in a oily saucy. I tried one corn tortilla with pieces of chicken,beef and shrimp. This wasn't good, I disliked them and knew I could never eat them. One would think you could get good fajitas in PV. The waiter returned when he saw I wasn't eating. I explained that I'd never had fajitas cooked this way and I disliked all the sauce. That this was more like a seafood soup. I said I have always had them grilled. He replied they don't have a grill in our kitchen. I sat & chewed on my reaction. All restaurants chefs have there takes on popular dishes. My husband heard the conversation but didn't say anything. I asked him how his fish was, he gave me a bite, it was very salty and he was still eating it. I knew will be having a very bad day tomorrow. The restaurant tried to give us free drinks and brought over Kailua & cream. Neither of us drink sweet drinks and we tried to decline, then they offered tequila and hubby said yes. In my opinion it would have been better if cook had followed waiters order without salt. or for waiter to offer a different dish. They did nothing. If you go, good luck. read more

Came on a Fri lunch as it was recommended by the hotel we stayed at in driving distance. Overall it was a good experience. Amicable staff and wait time for food was 5-10 minutes. The ceiling fans keep the area cool. It was not busy at all with only a family eating upon arrival. The shrimp were great with the sauce served. Vuelva La Vida was not too good. The tacos de marlin were disappointing. The arrachera fajitas were okay. The tortillas were lacking flavor and not cooked completely and overall were bland. Check your bills belles you pay! Tourist traps! The check do not at up, over charged on the invoice and lied about the tips they forced on us and still the bill do not add up. I ordered their most famous grill fish and it was the worse of it all, the aquachille shrimps are not so good, crabs flavors okay but no meat. Waiters missed up on the orders and tried to charge us which they eventually forced on their own tip structure and bill still don't add up... I'm okay with poor seafood and ok service but I am not okay with cheating customers on the billing. A hidden gem located more inland at Puerto Vallarta lies *CUETOS*. At first I thought what's this sketchy area the tour guide was taking us to!?, and one bite of the food I became impressed. This restaurant has a wide selection of food that can satisfy even the pickiest eater. I tried their Clam Chowder which was rich and creamy.. and plentiful. I also tried their Shrimp Fajitas which was succulent, tender, an mouthwatering. The coke complimented my meal well and a nice touch was the drink for the road a boozy horchata cocktail they gave which was a stiff dessert iced drink. They had a mariachi band which gave an *Old Town* feel which was great music and entertaining. Cuetos had friendly service with fresh and tasty food.. overall a good experience! =] read more

Delicious food and AMAZING service! Jorge was so patient with us and took the time to explain the different items on their menu. He even brought over the fish so we could choose which one we wanted. Flavor was great but service was everything! I would Definitely recommend this place to anyone who comes to Puerto Vallarta (old Vallarta). Cuetos is the best sit down restaurant we've eaten at so far. You MUST go. It's our first time in PV and we are trying as many food places as possible. This place is off the "beaten path" so people visiting may miss out. It's was a short walk from the Sheraton (under a mile). We ordered the spicy marisco dish, seafood stuffed avocado, and the seafood platter for 2. We substituted the red snapper for the sea bass filet and asked to make the shrimp coconut shrimp. They basically will make anything happen. Every single bite of every single dish was heaven. All the fish was SO perfectly cooked. I hate over cooked seafood! All the staff was so friendly. We will most likely go again before we leave because we can't stop talking about the food. read more

Cueto's was talked up by 3 different cab drivers and one random guy on the beach so we decided to go there. We went for lunch on a Wednesday around 12:45pm and we were the only people there. The place was in residential area and had its own charm. The server was polite and recommended Ceviche Vallarta and we got it. It was a dry heap of some fish with pico de gallo added. Not sure if it was fresh. Luckily no one got sick so I guess it was safe. We had seafood soup, seafood in poblano sauce and sea bass in Diablo sauce. They were all tasty but I think the seafood was all over cooked. I have had better. My daughter had clams in chili garlic sauce and they were not clean and very rubbery. I wouldn't give this place a rave review. Ok but wouldn't go back. read more

I will keep this brief, and I will say this one of the best dinners I have ever had, such a great experience. Four of us took a taxi from our resort to Cuetos, and yes, it is way off the beaten path. We were welcomed by the entire family of proprietors who were so nice and treated us like family. They walked us through the menu and the night's offerings. The four of us ordered drinks, starters like ceviche and shrimp cocktail, the seafood tray for two (see pic). This was the BEST food all of us had ever eaten. Giant shrimp, crayfish, lobster, sea bass all grilled to perfection served with butter and lime. So so so so good and was plenty for four people. I can't say enough good things about the food here. We ended with flan, blackberry cheesecake, and complimentary shot of tequila. When the bill came we were pleasantly surprised at how reasonable it all was. We all enjoyed Cuetos and will return on next trip to Puerta Vallarta. read more

We return again to our favorite PV secluded fish house Cuetos. Love the family neighborhood vibe. Off the beaten path near the sports park. Cobblestone streets & dark means it's not Times Square. The 3 amigos guitar have wide repertoire of local songs. seems like $6.00 a song- a bargain. Cadillac Margarita for certain, don't expect much salt yet it's okay. The food; we are in a rut, once again Frog legs breaded, lobster tail & coconut shrimp. The tail slightly over cooked but good size for $400 p. /$22. W veggies - rice. Hidden gem! Happened to find this while walking back to our resort. Amazing seafood. We ordered a shrimp ceviche tostada, aguachile, and fried shrimp! Everything was delicious. The lobster tail was huge at .5 kg but at $63 I can't say it's a great deal. It's grilled with garlic in top and fresh as can be. Octopus Vera Cruz was so so. Should have just opted for the grilled version. Veracruz is just mixed in with tomato sauce peppers and olives blue crab was also very fresh. Meat was very tender. On the house cerviche was crap as everything was too finely chopped. Queen clam was fresh since we got it cerviche style. For seafood, the way they prepare the food is really limited so personally it doesn't bring out the freshness. read more
