I LOVE fresh Japanese udon so this was automatically on my list when I walked by. I probably had 3 Japanese udon spots on just my last visit to Japan, specifically Sanuki style udon, so I'm probably a bit more picky than your usual guest. I say this is an A-okay but didn't exactly hit the mark for me. My go-to is cold udon and I don't find many places outside of Japan serving this and if they do, nailing it. I took a sip of the wagyu hot udon soup and I found that to be more tasty than my cold pork belly one. It's also quite awkward to eat given the sauce is in a cup instead of a bowl with a smaller opening to drench the noodles. If I pour the sauce over the noodles it would just strain through. It only makes sense if the sauce is intense in flavour but it tastes kind of watered down. I suppose they didn't wring the water out enough of their noodles when they served, hence relying on the bamboo strainer to separate the water out. I also find it not as appealing to visibly see the starch layer over the noodles. The noodles are not as smooth as what I see in Japan. I decided to shift the noodles to my pork plate so I can mix the broth to eat to give it more flavour. The fried oysters are good too no complaints. I'm sure if I haven't eaten so much cold Japanese udon before, I probably would be satisfied. I'll definitely recommend the hot udon instead of the cold. The price point is moderate so still a good choice. There aren't too many tables inside. However, we were easily able to grab seats on a weekend.

I had zaru soba with pork belly and it was decent. The portion was substantial for me but maybe not enough for a regular man. Soba tasted fresh but was not exceptional. The bill came to $25 including tax and 15 percent tips. I found it a bit overpriced for such a quick and simple dish.

I have had Sanuki Udon saved in my list of restaurants to eat for awhile. I was so excited that our air b and b was a couple blocks away. Upon entering the restaurant, you could smell the aroma of the udon, it's heavenly. We were seating fairly quickly for Saturday afternoon. My husband got the wagyu udon and I got the shrimp udon. The udon is homemade! The portions are huge! The wagyu had a lot of flavor and the shrimp tempera was huge! Although it was such a hot and humid day, this udon hit the spot. The broth was fragrant yet light. I'd recommend coming here for a delicious bowl of udon.

This review is for a delivery order. I ordered the wagyu beef set and it was on promo (maybe that explains the subpar experience). The udon set is packed nicely but isn't anything to write home about. Beef is OK and as expected not a generous portion. Other items were just forgetful. Broth had a sweet finish which funny enough reminded me of what one gets from Sukiyaki. Even with the promo there are priced closer to a go to spot which I would pick over them. 2.5 Stars

Went on a cold winter night and it was a great way to warm up. The service was very friendly and decently quick. The udon texture was great and the beef was great. But I'm giving it 3 stars mainly because the amount of food for cost was pretty crazy. We spent about 55 dollars for 2 bowls of udon and we were still hungry after. Also the broth for the beef udon was very salty. Probably won't come again but was good to try.

The major highlight was witnessing how a worker took the hand-pulled noodles to where the cooks were so they could use the noodles. I think that's a very good concept and that itself definitely made me think about giving this place a 4 instead, but I have decided to keep it at 3 because the fresh udon didn't compensate for the lack of highlight in the items' flavors. I thought there was an abundant amount of beed in the M7 wagyu ramen, which was quite amazing, even if the ramen tasted mediocre overall. The kaki oyster tempura also tasted mediocre because it wasn' extraordinarily delicious even with the sauce and the fried breading (most likely panko). My partner had relatively good things to say about the onigiri, but still felt like it was okay overall. I do think, though, that it was at a very convenient location downtown, so for Toronto visitors, this would be a good spot for a quick bite.

The service here was one of the weirdest experiences I've ever had. When you approach the restaurant, the door is already open - that's because the AC doesn't work, god knows why they need AC in the winter but the restaurant is freezing cold. There's a signup sheet for you to put your name down to wait for a table, since it doesn't seem like they know how to manage that themselves. Half the tables are empty but they haven't been cleared. We asked to sit in the booth but they said sorry no the booth is for 4 people, however I look over and there is a single person by themselves ASLEEP IN THE BOOTH. WTF?! Anyways they let other couples sit in the booths, so that made absolutely no sense. Overall, the service was basically non existent and it felt like none of the servers have ever worked at a restaurant before. After a while, we finally got our udon which was somewhere between lukewarm and hot. It was decent but not something I'd come back for. The broth and meat quality were good, the noodles were subpar, but most importantly you can't classify any hot soup as "good" if it's not served piping hot. Overall, I'd give this place a pass.

The cold weather got me craving for a warm comfy bowl of udon so I went to Sanuki Udon and got the pork belly udon. The udon was full of umami and it was very hearty. The broth was flavourful and they didnt skimp out on the pork belly. The ambiance was also very calm and cozy. I came in close to closing so it wasnt a lot of people. Highly recommend this place if youre craving for a good bowl of udon!

Came for late lunch, around 1:30 pm, after seeing this place hyped in Instagram awhile back. The Google reviews were 4.8 with 600+ reviews, so looked pretty solid. Restaurant has nice decor. Spacious and clean. I initially tried to order a pork belly, but it was already sold out. Decided to get the curry A7 Angus beef udon. It was quite tough to chew, but I eat well done meat so this isn't the end of the world for me. The real problem is the udon. It was flavourless, didn't have any of the springy bouncy texture while chewing, and overall pretty sad. The curry was not very flavourful either. I feel like I could have made this at home with random store bought ingredients. And I also saw a pile of noodles under the tap with water running? Is it cooling down the noodle? Kind of interesting

Nice place with friendly service. Good spot to grab a quick lunch if you are in the area. My rating though would be roughly 3.5 stars for the food but rounding up to a 4. Nothing spectacular, but it's a decent bowl of udon. Texture of udon is good, though it is less so on the bouncy side. Would be better if they use a larger bowl so you get more piping hot broth. The waguy beef was fatty and melt in your mouth.

Good udon but there were a lot of menu items that were unavailable. I got the wagyu beef udon which was good and my bro tried the brothless one. He enjoyed it and liked the raw egg on top. Ordered the: - Spicy Tantan ($14.99) - Kitsune ($12.99) - Vegetable Tempura ($3.28) The vegetable tempura is delicious and fried perfectly while not being too oily. Both the udons were really good too - it's clear the udon is handmade (or at least not like the frozen ones you buy in store) as it's thicker and chewier. The kitsune is very plain (doesn't even come with green onions). The spicy tantan is a much more flavorful and also comes with half an egg. In terms of ordering, it's a bit strange since you have to order once you go in. Would have preferred they gave menus (they could have also just given a sheet for customers to fill out). Also, on the counter, there's a display for the shrimp tempura, chicken, and vegetable tempura. Not really sure why this was here - honestly, a menu with pictures would probably suffice. Service is good since it wasn't too busy when we went, but there was only 1 server so not sure how efficient this system would be if there were more people here. read more

came here not long after they opened to try their wagyu beef udon which was delish! the prices are really fair and the food satisfied my soupy udon craving :) since there's not lot of udon specific restaurants in toronto i'd give this one a shot. i wouldn't get the veggie kakiaage again as a side tho as it was not crunchy and a bit soggy tbh. read more

Was a little disappointed in this place. I got the wagyu beef udon and it wasn't really worth it. The soup base did not have a wow factor and was pretty plain. My friend got the jumbo shrimp and we got karrage as appetizer but both did not have the crispiness to it. They also need a better setup with the trays/space with the tables, I understand it's part of the experience but we had a struggle putting everything on our table for 2 ppl! I really like this restaurant! The service is great, the restaurant is clean, and the food is amazing. The curry katsu udon is so filling and rich. Though i would not get the shrimp onigiri again because there was only 1 shrimp in it and it was $6 so i cant really justify the price. read more

Came here for dinner on a Wednesday evening with some of my best pals whom I haven't seen in a while and wanted to try out a new Japanese joint. This was on our radar of place to try and let me tell you something. It did not disappoint, the ambient setting inside presented itself with traditional Japanese architecture and the udon which they are known for was hand made to order, everything was freshly made and presentation on each of our order was perfectly aligned to what I envisioned how our order came to fruition. The staffs on the floor were very attentive and presentable in a very welcoming manner. Happy and loud to greet the customers when entering and exiting. Our main course for the evening was 2x wagyu udon, jumbo shrimp udon and the chicken karage udon with a side of chicken karage and jumbo shrimp on their own. I very much liked the fact that the jumbo shrimp and chicken karage was put on the side of the tray without it being submerged in the udon broth. Amazing aroma from our dish and appetizers, will definitely be back to try the other main dish on the menu. I don't recall seeing a liquor license, maybe in the process of obtaining one? Overall, great first impression and visit. read more

There's not many Japanese Udon spots in the city and if you're a noodle lover like me, then you have to try Sanuki Udon ! They make their noodles in house everyday and the chefs put lots of love and efforts to the presentation of their dishes. The noodles are really bouncing and delicious! I love the torched wagyu beef ; it really adds an umami flavour to the dish! I also enjoyed the large shrimp tempura with their cold noodle; it was a perfect pairing . I love the cold and hot options for their udon too. You can really find different udons for all kinds of weather. I definitely would recommend trying this new spot for Japanese udons! read more

Nicely decorated restaurant with polite and helpful staff. Ordered Signature A7 Wagyu Beef Udon and Chicken Karaage Zaru Udon. Wagyu beef was fatty and added richness to the broth which was otherwise a little plain. Soft boiled egg was delish, tad salty but I like that. Noodles were chewy. I'm sitting here still waiting for our food. It's been over 40 minutes since we ordered. Looking into the kitchen, it barely looked like the staff tried to make our udon in a timely manner. I would love to give 0 stars (even tho it's impossible), but I'm giving 1 star because the staff was friendly. I'm typically quite patient and I would have loved to given them a chance. But honestly, over 40 minutes and we didn't even get at least the side dish of tempura? And we asked if the food will be ready soon, and a staff member said "it'll be ready soon I think". "I think"? Delicious. Wagyu beef udon was wonderfully tender and fatty, which spilled over into the broth in a way I was unaccustomed to but wasn't unpleasant - it's basically the ramen experience with udon. Space was clean, service was good. Prices were pretty high, but roughly in line with ramen prices. read more

Not the best udon I've had but it did hit the spot after a long day of snowboarding. The broth was too salty for my taste but I enjoyed the curry udon a bit more than the wagyu beef udon. The noodles were soft and chewy. Service was quick and the staff was very nice. Not a bad visit but def better udon out there. read more

Amazing udons! I love that their menu is super small with only 3 apps and 6 udons to choose from! I got the wagyu beef udon and the Japanese curry tonkatsu udon, also got shrimp tempura app! Both the udon was super delicious, but the Japanese Curry tonkatsu udon def stole the show ! Restaurant was spacious , open concept kitchen and clean. They serve Japanese tea too! Mid-tier udon place that just opened at the end of February. Be aware they do close a bit early at 8:30PM. The udon itself was fine, not as high quality as places like Raku but price is fair at around $13-$20 per bowl. It seems that their menu is not permanent. It was a little strange when we walked in at first they asked us to immediately choose what to order before sitting down (guess they don't have paper menus or online menus -- kind of inbetween fast food and sit down). Ambiance was otherwise nice -- a little quiet. Server did come around once to refill water and we paid at the cash register. We did get the add on tempura shrimp which were over $3 a piece. They were nice and fresh, just a bit pricey it felt. The meats we got were sweet and the broth was salty. It was a nice surprise to get an extra half egg but note it was cold so warm it up in your broth! read more

Very cute udon restaurant. The waygu is torched and very flavorful and the soup is well made too. The udon is a bit doughy and tastes more like very thick noodles instead of udon. The atmosphere is chill and staff is welcoming and helpful. Price is reasonable with the buy one get one free promotion right now. read more

Tried the iconic wagyu udon on a sunny breezy Friday just before hitting up the weekend. Was very excited checking Sanuki out as its been a minute since slurping on ramen-ish noodle/soup combo (think snow storm). The broth was light and frothy, but flavourful- embellished with scoopful garlic onions. Egg was evidently well marinated, as the decadent flavour was bursting at first bite. Have not quite captured the exact flavour, but the infused ice water was also a nice touch to the experience The storefront is also an under-the-radar little detail elevates the ambiance. Nice breezy for the summer as most ramen shop can be stuffy. The service was phenomenal - friendly and welcoming as expected from experiential dining. read more

Nice and clean wooden Japanese style interior. Interesting system where you order at the counter before getting a seat. But they staff are helpful and nice. As this was my first visit I tried their signature wagyu udon. The beef topping was great. V flavor, tender texture and had been given Aburi treatment (licked by flames) before serving for excellent smokiness. Good portion too. Sadly the star that I had visited for, the udon wasn't quite what I had hoped. It was kind of doughy and not the smooth slurping, chewy udon I was expecting. They do say they make the noodles in house. So perhaps they're still narrowing it down. Maybe the rice dishes would be a better choice. read more

This was my first time here and everything was really good! The waitress was very tentative and helped us put our orders in. I got the Spicy TanTan Udon which was really good along with fried tempura and karage! The ambiance was very nice and clean as well. I will come back for sure next time I'm in Toronto! read more

I tried the wagyu beef udon and it was very tasty. The beef was very tender and portion quite generous. Udon also had nice texture. The restaurant itself is very spacious with lots of seating. Staff are friendly and service was quick. Would come back to try their other udons! read more

We stopped by at this place on a whim since we were hungry and looking for a bite for lunch and we were drawn in on their waygu beef special advertisement outside. Reviews on Google seemed decent so we gave it a shot. Turns out they don't offer the waygu beef meal. So a bit of a disappointment. We got their angus beef udon instead. I got the combo. I decided to go on a whim as I'd passed this place a few times lately. The interior is modern and tidy and the service was very good and pleasant. I got the wagyu beef udon and I was a bit underwhelmed for the price. The beef was both stringy and fatty and the broth was a bit sweet and lacked a cohesive flavour. The udon were good in themselves but I wasn't blown away by the dish as a whole. I'd go back but would definitely pick something else. read more

Great udon that hits. Freshly prepare udon has good texture, great but not groundbreaking. Flavours of the broth are full and complete. Great beef flavours in the wagyu udon, perfectly balanced. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. I noticed this new udon place not too long ago. I was only familiar with the bubble tea place it replaced in that same location. The setup is a little unusual where you order at the counter and then pick your seat but you pay after you finish. And there's only an onscreen menu but that menu doesn't list the sides you can order. Despite the slightly strange setup, the service was friendly and the food was pretty good. I enjoyed the flame torched pork belly udon and the chicken tempura. I personally felt the portion was good and both dishes were of good value (~$23 before tax/tip). The only critique is I don't care for the fried panko on my udon because they all get soggy after you start eating. I'd rather you replace that with nori and/or more green onion. I've visited Sanuki Udon several times, and every visit has been a great experience. The staff, including both the servers and chefs, are always incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The food is consistently delicious, and the value is outstanding. The $15 Asahi beer pitcher is honestly hard to believe these days and makes the dining experience even better. I've tried several dishes on the menu and have never been disappointed. A special mention goes to the soba noodles, which are always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We'd just had awesome udon on a recent trip to Osaka, Japan, and couldn't believe we were able to find the same thing here in Toronto. The udon noodle is very fresh and chewy. The soup is light but comfortable. Wagyu beef is so delicious , fatty and can be melt in my mouth. The half cooked egg is creamy and tasty. And the tempura bit is a highlight to make the entire udon bowl more than perfect! 120% satisfied for the wagyu udon!! ABD the restaurant is very clean, staff are very friendly as well. read more

This is a great place with delicious food. I had the shrimp tempura, it's the best tempura I have ever had. I also had the beef udon, the beef is so tasty and the noodles are cooked to perfection. I have had take out before but I fully recommend the dine-in experience. The staff is super friendly too, overall a great experience. read more

Lovely ambiance to dine in solo or with friends. Always a fan of udon so I was happy to try the wagyu beef udon, which turned out to be nice! The marinated egg that came with it was delicious. Also ordered the chicken tempura, which was decent. Need to mention that the waitress was kind and helpful as well :) read more

Had the Beef Wagyu udon for dinner, was definitely worth it! The noodles were handmade, very fresh and great texture to it. The beef was very tender as well with good flavor, adding well to the taste of the udon. Interior is nicely decorated with a warm pleasant vibe, and super friendly staff to help you! read more

Sanuki Udon on Carlton is an absolute gem! Their udon noodles are simply outstanding, perfectly cooked with a delightfully chewy texture. Service was very friendly. The waitress took our order at the counter before we sit. The wagyu beef udon we ordered comes relatively quick. The broth was flavorful. Most importantly, the udon noodle was cooked just right and not smushy. Will definitely come back to try other types of udon! read more

The Udon is really delicious. It's savory and light. You can see they carefully prepared the food as shown below. The chicken tempura is crispy and just take out from the kitchen. The server is really nice and the space is decorated by wood. Good to know and will come back read more

New Udon place! I rushed here as soon as I saw it by the Carlton theatre! I really love Udon noodles, but they don't seem to be the focus when it comes to Asian restaurants! So now that there's an Udon placeI can stop going to Ramen shops and have the best Japanese noodles! read more
