I received an email from Sara stating that my last review update below wasn't honest. So I'm writing an honest update. I went in a couple of weeks ago for a collagen facial. I had come in in the past for a collagen facial and had a positive experience and I like the way my skin looked. I was told during the facial that she was going to put glycolic acid too. No mention of an additional cost. I assumed that this was included in the treatment. I was told that there will be no down time. Treatment proceeded and after the treatment I was told that the glycolic acid was an addtional $15. I was surprised by that and Sara said that I didn't have to pay for that. I appreciate that, however I'm a believer in paying for services rendered. If you don't pay for a service, it's essentially stealing, right?. So I insisted on paying for the service anyway. I thought that was the right thing to do. Later that evening, I had a negative reaction from the peel. The skin on my nose and cheeks became extremely red and blotchy. I have never had a negative effect like this from a facial before. During the next 7 days, my skin became very dry and started to peel for a few days after. My honest opinion is that no one should get this added treatment. After I updated my review, I received an email from Sara stating that I wasn't being honest with her nor on Yelp because I insisted on paying for the treatment that she did even when she said I didn't have to. I told her that I paid because I didn't want to rob her of a service that was rendered. I find this interesting because she was the one that wasn't upfront about an additional charge for a service. I received a few emails from Sara today. Here is one of them where she is essentially yelling at me. "I mentioned already that I realized that I didn't tell u the price out front AND THAT IS WHY I SUGGESTED THAT U NOT PAY IT. HOWEVER YOU INSISTED, WHO IS BEING DISHONEST Cindy.! I ALREADY SAID THAT, READ MY EMAIL AGAIN. THAT IS WHY I OFFERED YOU TO NOT PAY BUT U INSISTED, DO U REMEMBER THAT. I DIDN'T LOOK YOUR ADDRESS ON PUBLIC RECORDS I'M NOT A SNOOP, YOU WROTE IT DOWN ON THE FORM YOU FILLED WHEN U FIRST CAME IN. YOUR CHECK IS IN THE MAIL. It appears you don't want me to have your info. I'll shred your client form. For me this closes this matter. Best of luck" Even though she said she is refunding me the $15, I have moved since my first appointment with her so I won't be getting that money anyway. I never asked for a refund either. I also never accused her of being a snoop! I wasn't sure where she got my address and I totally forgot that I put my old address on a client form. If it wasn't for the emails that I have received today, I wouldn't be giving this update a 1 star review. It's unfortunate because I did have an appointment scheduled to come in in a month and give her another chance. However she already wrote to me saying that I have to find someone else to go to. I wasn't upset about the additional $15 charge. I was caught off guard about it. If I wrote an update about the additional charge, it was just to inform the Yelp community to be cautious of this. My original review was a 3 star review stated the following: "Be sure to ask if additional add on's are a part of the service or if they are included in the service. Was charged an extra $15 for glycolic acid peel at the end of the treatment. I didn't know there was an additional cost for that until after the fact. I also didn't like the effects of the peel. My skin on my cheeks is extremely dry. I also had a lot of redness later, the same day after the facial." Additionally, I have had a difficult time scheduling appointments with her via Lifebooker. One time I scheduled to come in and she wasn't there at all. As another review mentioned, she is also pushy about buying products from the Dermalogica. I thought Sara was a nice person and did a good job on the facial and extractions, but had a couple of concerns. First, she told me that I "needed" to get a peel. When I asked about the possible after-effects, she said that my face wouldn't be red or peel afterwards. I let her do the peel, at an additional cost. Cut to two days later, with my face peeling off on New Year's Eve and for the following two days. Not happy. Also, when checking out, Sara was pretty insistent about me buying products. I agreed to purchase one of the three things she offered, but she didn't seem happy with that answer and continued to try to convince me to buy the other two as well. It was just a couple days after Christmas, and I didn't have an extra $200+ to spend on all of her recommendations. Let me start out by saying that I have never gotten a facial before, so I really had no idea what was going to happen. My friend had bought me a Groupon deal for Sara West that included the Enzyme Facial and Lip treatment. So I decided that sure, why not? I've never had a facial before and it was about time that I experienced one! I scheduled my appointment, mentioned my Groupon, and away I went. When I arrived in the office, I was met by Sara right away and she gave me a background form to fill out while she prepped the room. The form had questions about my skin, previous facials/treatments, etc. Sara then looked over my form and asked me questions about certain answers I provided. She said that her goal was to have me leave feeling amazing about my skin, and she did not disappoint. Sara told me everything that she was going to do before she did it, she also told me what each thing was doing to/for my skin. My facial started out with Sara looking at my face underneath a magnifying glass and telling me what was going on with my skin. I expected a lot more sun damage, but she said that my skin was mostly dry. She then proceeded with a double cleanse, then set up a steamer over my face for about 10 minutes to open up my pores. She then applied a Papaya/Pineapple Enzyme Peel to help dissolve any impurities before starting the deep pore extraction. (This is the one part that I didn't really like because it was a bit painful - she really got DEEP into my pores). Then she passed a high-frequency wand over my face to kill germs. But the best part? The neck, shoulder and face massage, which seemed to last forever but not long enough all at the same time. I never knew that facials could be so RELAXING! I mean, why had I never done this before?! When the massage was over Sara then applied my lip treatment and a mask to tighten my pores followed with a moisturizer/sunscreen. She then recommended to me a few products from Dermalogica to help with my dry skin, which work wonders! Overall I had an amazing experience! I really appreciated that Sara told me everything that she was doing to my face and why, and it was actually very educational. She is a very nice, friendly and professional person, and the atmosphere in the room where I got my treatment was nice and soothing. First time ever having a facial & came in from a Groupon (which expired but Sara honored the buy-in value $49). From the get go, she was professional & had a no-fuss attitude, which I really liked. The office smelled sweet & aromatic, and had soft yoga-like music playing. Sara selected some treatments for my skin after examining me under a light & talking to me about what she saw (thin skin/ sun damage/etc) . She then gave me a variety of options to accomodate what I wanted/needed including a bacteria zapping wand, a few peels (I passed on microderm abrasion because I didn't want to lose a tan I'd just gotten) and some really amazing smelling cooling technique (with a wand... have no idea what it's called but it was really pleasant). I followed all this with about 20 min of LED cooling - and since I had parked at a meter out front , Sara made a nice gesture to pay the meter with my card for me so I wouldn't get a ticket since there was an hour limit and we are in hollywood, afterall :) . I want to add , she was super informative during the entire process, conscious of my needs, and also the added massage was superior ! I felt like I was really in the hands of an experienced pro and alltogether my experience was super positive, my skin glowing & radiant, and I now have a new little regime to get me started on my "30+" skin. I feel fantastic! She also said the LED light effects would continue to work for days after my experience so looking forward to seeing the transformation through the rest of the week. I ended up buying 2 products, some dropper vitamins for the face and hylaurlic moisurizer , also in dropper bottle. They are a little pricey , but hopefully I will be able to see a big difference in my skin, which I already do. I feel good about my purchases , wasn't being pushed into being sold or anything. I found Sara on Groupon, and have not gone anywhere else since. She is fantastic! Like many first time Groupon users, I was hesitant, but I couldn't be happier that I found her. Upon arriving, I was greeted with a warm smile. We then proceeded to sit and discuss my skin, and how she would cater the facial to meet my needs. She was even so kind as to take the time to explain to me why my skin was producing acne and gave me suggestions on how to control it. The facial itself was delightful. It was a very calming and relaxing atmosphere. Sara spared no expense. She gave me the works. The facial included everything: multiple masks, steaming, gentle extractions, serums, exfoliating, high frequency.. the list goes on and on. When finished, my skin was glowing. And as the days passed my acne continued to subside. My birthday is coming up soon, and I am excited to go back to Sara to get that glowing skin her facials produce. Sara West is the best! I've been going to her for treatment on my adult and cystic acne--It got tremendously worse than my already bad teenage acne just before I hit 23. Over the years I've tried proactiv, neutrogena, clearasil, topical and oral antibiotics from the dermatologist, an all-natural/edible/organic alpha hydroxy skin care line, and was about to resort to laser, when I found her via KGB deals. I have very problematic combination skin-- anything that can dry the vast amounts of oil it produces, will also irritate and make my skin red and flake. In the first treatment with Sara, she wasn't afraid to get right into my pores and extract EVERYTHING. I had no idea that literally years of grime had built up. The extraction didn't really hurt much, and the first glycolic treatment stung momentarily, but since then my skin has become less infected and tender, and more resilient. It's a bit costly since she recommends purchasing at-home prescribed products to maintain in between treatments, but worth every penny! Nothing has worked compared to Sara's treatments. After 3 weeks my acne is 95% vanished (did not expect that for 1-2 months) and since we recently started adding LED blue and red light treatments, my scars are dramatically diminished. Even after only a 30 min treatment, I can literally and immediately see results. I had been previously using Murad's age spot/scar pigment lightening gel on my acne scars, but I think I'll be tossing it away now. For the first time in over 10 years, my skin is the evenest and clearest it's EVER been. The facility is lovely too-- there's always calming music, and tea, mints or something else to snack on like Giardelli's chocolate, but I never have time to kill from waiting when I book an appt. I got this amazon local deal with Sara, scheduling was a breeze. She was very nice from the start. I am a male in my 50s and have gotten facials on and off for years. I am very picky because I maintain nice skin and use good products - not theirs. When I arrived, Sara greeted me with kindness and enthusiasm. This is a nice spa with a few rooms, Very zen and peaceful - i filled out the questionnaire and Sara reviewed it with me. She asked me for my concerns and I told her. She then led me into a nice room; highly professional (even in high end spas I have not had a room like this) the music is the type i enjoy in my yoga classes. Sara examined my face and mentioned numerous facials but had something specific in mind for me. She informed me of a new microdermabrasion treatment - she demonstrated on her own skin, She told me the fee and (asked me) whether i wanted it? I said yes. After several cleansings and masks, she did the procedure. If you google this you will excellent literature and reviews on this. I also have two female co-workers who have had this and their skin looks new - over a six treatments, your skin will show the great results and newness - it's like sanding a table with minor cracks she said and then the wood becomes normal again. Amazing personality and sense of humor. I also told her i was interested in her recommendations for a sun screen as i had heard about demalogica as positive, when i came out of the room, she had put a bottle of sun screen (since i play tons of tennis) - she also as a recommendation put out a mask to use weekly - she explained in detail the importance and went over the ingredients with me/ She checked on my daily skin routine and was complimentary. We spoke for several minutes talking with me - she is very customer service oriented - far exceeding what i had in a high end salon, each time they put something on my face and i liked it, there was a bag waiting at the check out counter = the sales person said "this is what has been specially chosen for you -" I was very upset. I booked my next appt for Sept - this is a true winner - You get what you pay for - if you are used to getting facials, go; if you are a first time comer - trust me, she will take the time to explain everything. I have been seeing Sara for 3 months now, constantly. My skin is changing! I found Sara on groupon and was so impressed! All facials for the most part are nice and relaxing, a few extractions and masks( which I can do myself) not Sara's- so much more! I am an actress and a woman so I rely on good skin for work and confidence. I'm stressing this due to the negative reviews. I have strong food allergies that cause Rash acne. And some scarring from flare ups. I also get to deal with fun black heads. Not only does Sara take her time and truly cares about my skin, she is not afraid to go after it! She will leave no pore UN touched if need be. I for one want every black head out, not just a few. It does take some control to make it through, we all love extractions lol, and it takes patience on her part to do so, but its so worth it! She also gives the most amazing massage and relaxing masks. I never feel rushed. And I think there is something to be said when she blocks out 1 1/2 hr time for you. She always explains if it will be extra cost if I want something else. what a strange, angry and rude woman. Makes me feel better to see from reviews on here that I'm not the only one who got treated so badly, but not a great look for a business... Basically I bought a Coupon special offer and called to book in for an appointment. This is the conversation: 'Hi I'd like to schedule an appointment' Her 'what' Me (more slowly) 'I need to schedule an appointment' Her 'what does that mean'. Me (thinking it was a bit odd, but whatever) 'Um, you know 'book in' 'put in the calendar' . Her 'what language is that'. Me 'Um, that's English'. Her 'no' Me 'yes, that is English. Sorry if you don't understand but... (I'm about to say it doesn't really matter as long as we can work out what I'm trying to do, but she interrupts me and raises her voice 'I think you should call someone else'. Me 'I've actually already paid for a coupon for your place, so unless you're going to refund that, I really just need to book a date for an appointment. She hangs up. When I try to call back several times, it just goes to voicemail. Now that I've read about how pushy she is about selling products after a treatment, and especially the fact that she just wacks glycolic acid on people's faces without testing for skin sensitivity or allergies, I'm glad that I wasn't able to book in. Even though Sara knew that I was an out-of-towner, she provided me with the kind of attention and care to make sure that I came back. My skin glowed for a few days after my facial but what I liked best was the advice that Sara gave regarding what I needed to do to prevent breakouts in the first place. I am lazy when it comes to writing reviews on Yelp or taking care of my skin but I must write a comment about the great experience I had at Sara West Skin Care. I received an Amazon Local coupon as a gift from a friend on Christmas for this facial and was almost going to let it expire because I never thought facials did anything. I can put a mask on at home or exfoliate with my Sephora products. I decided to use this voucher on Saturday and was very impressed with the service and the results. Best facial I ever received. My friend has a habit of giving my facial voucher for the holidays and birthdays so I was at the point of almost resenting her because a lot of them really sucked and were a waste of my time. I've never actually treated my self to one but so glad I went! Not only did it feel great and had a relaxing experience my skin has never felt better. I get cystic bumps around my chin. It looks as though I have clear skin but I often get painful bumps around my chin that just won't go away. Sara West took care of it with this electrical wand which felt wonderful and really helped but also gave me advice as to how to care for my skin. She is extremely knowledgeable and formulates the perfect mask for your skin. I had dry skin around my nose so she didn't want to put too much glycolic which made sense. She has the latest products and instruments to give the perfect facial. She also explains what she is doing and asks what you want done. I highly recommend her.
