I don't see what the big deal is. Honestly this place is just Ok. Overpriced small little pastries. Coffee is average. Groceries give a farmers market /Dean & Deluca vibe, except it is neither. Hazelnut cookies Crunchy outside, chewy hazelnut bomb of flavor on the inside. The delicate scent of orange blossom and zest bring another layer, and the maple syrup in it means it's perfectly sweetened with flavor depth. Yes, the bakery is pricy- it was $2 for a cookie that's far smaller than my palm. But I'd do it again. Come here to grab a baked good and peruse the Italian goods as you brave the wait for the restaurant next door. If you need more divertissement, pop in to the lovely record shop across the street. I don't want to bash this place, but the pastries are not good! This morning I picked up an Almond Cornetti and a slice of Banana Walnut Bread. Both were bad. The Almond Cornetti, which to me just looked like and Almond Croissant, was burnt on the bottom and was hollow... no almond paste inside. The price was also shocking, $4.50. The Banana Walnut Bread has a fishy taste. It tasted as if whoever baked it used old oil or butter. This was worse than the Cornetti. I paid $3.75 for this atrocity. This is a bakery with awful pastries and ridiculous prices. Please do yourself a favor and steer clear of Saraghina Bakery. read more

Always on the look out for a great local croissant. We've tried a few in the neighborhood and Saraghina is the easy winner. My favorite is the tangy lemon curd version. My husband loves the Apple version. The plain is also great. I've gotta say...we've been so focused on croissants that we haven't tried anything else except the coffee that was meh. (Go to Odd Fox on Throop.) Now we have eaten at the Saraghina restaurant which is another review, but the bakery makes their pizza crust and it was delicious-chewy, thin and crisp. read more

I came here as I was in the neighborhood and it looked super inviting from the outside. It's a very cute bakery with a selection of pastries and breakfast items. I got a plain croissant and it was quite good. They also sell a variety of sundry items, and have a few window seats to sit at (though space is at a premium). If you want to avoid a long wait, make sure you come before opening. The bakery is very small and only allows three people in at one time due to COVID restrictions and honestly, there's not enough room for many people anyways. The selection is amazing here. Besides their incredible selection of baked goods, they have so many options for cheese, charcuterie and even pasta. They had so many different things, interesting jars, sauces, I couldn't decide! I went basic and got their regular croissant which was fantastic. Wish they had an option to have it heated, but I enjoyed it on the spot and it was delicious anyways. So excited they started serving gelato! This little gem serves the best pastries! You can always rely on their croissants, but their cinnamon roll is sticky sweet treat that makes me lick my fingers. For over a decade (actually about 14 years), I've frequented this place, even though I've cut out sugar. Waiting an hour for my Cortado was part of its charm. I wonder how much money 14 years of overpriced Cortados add up too. However, today marked a definitive end. I forgot my wallet, a rare occurrence given my daily, sometimes twice-daily visits spanning over did I mention a decade! - even before my daughter was born ( she's 14 ). Despite this, they refused to serve me or allow me to return the next day to pay. It's disappointing. Every other coffee shop has a reward system; they should too. Cutting out bread and sugary treats has transformed my life - they offer no nutritional value, just toxicity. This experience feels like a sign. Besides they have no idea really how to manage customer flow. Who ever designed that bakery is a complete idiot. Update: I just discovered a much better spot passionfruit coffee (waaaaaay better coffee and customer flow and all round ambience and energy ) and they have heavy cream so I don't have to bring my own everyday. Honestly I could go here everyday. I typically get the foccacia- probably both the margarita one (tomatoes and mozzarella and basil) and the Rossa one (tomato base with kalamata olives and capers) but the onion one is also bomb if you're looking for less sauce since this is just sweet onions on top. As for the croissants- GET THE MUSHROOM AND FONTINA one. I'm not kidding. If you heat it up for 10 seconds in the microwave too if yours doesnt come warm (they make everything there daily), you won't be disappointed. They also sell loaves of bread and a wide selection of cheeses and some kitchen wares. I haven't gotten their coffee, but they sell Joe Coffee which is my favorite in the city (maybe the world), so I'm sure its good. It offers a view of the back kitchen area, and if you speak french you'll probably be in luck as it seems most of the employees do. read more

Man. I really wished I lived next door to this place. It was my first time here today. The staff is super helpful and willing to give you advice and recommendations. To me, this place smells like pure heaven when you walk in. The place is filled with different pastries, breads, and gourmet food items. (Cheeses, olive oil, pastas(dried and fresh), milk,teas,coffee, bacon, chocolate..... you get the idea. Just a great variety and an awesome place for someone who appreciates quality food and cooking. Stellar customer service today! I visit this place a lot and it's always great but today the woman behind the counter really went so far above and beyond to help me out. I was walking my dog and wanted to stop for a few things and some coffee to take home. My dog is way to large to pickup and try to sneak in. I didn't think it through and realized when I got to the bakery there was no good place for my dog to wait safely outside the door. I thought maybe I could just open the door and ask for what I needed then run in and out with my card. She said "just tell my what you'd like". Then she packed everything up securely and before I could say anything else she brought everything outside to me including the iPad for me to pay. She was so nice and helpful when she really didn't have to be. I was the one being difficult and she really didn't need to help me but she did with out a thought. read more

I live in the neighborhood and I've been going to Saraghina bakery for a while now. Their croissant sandwiches are literally to die for. Their chocolate croissants are pretty good too and most of the things they serve are great to be honest. My only complaint is they open at 8 AM, and I don't know if it was before Covid but they used to remake their baked goods at 4 PM. Now they don't do that. Their stuff runs out super fast so get stuff while you can. I think there might be a new manager because somethings got taken off the menu, such as their cinnamon rolls which were very good and their lemon sparkly drinks. still will continue to return though! And the people working there are very nice and helpful and good with recommendations. read more

I've lived a couple of blocks away for a few years and am only now writing a review. Saraghina Bakery is a place I frequent when I'm craving bread, which is often. I usually get the baguette but like their ciabatta for a crustier sandwich. The baguette has such a great flavor; it's neither too hole-y nor dense, and perfectly crisp on the outside. Best to eat the same day to appreciate the crust. I also love the focaccia rossa. Personally, I don't think $3 is too expensive for it, as some reviewers mention, and I don't consider the slice to be small either. Very good. Yes, some other items are maybe more than you want to pay, but it's not reason enough to rule out everything they serve, or the entire store. Their pastries aren't normally something I buy, as they tend to be small for the price, though they're generally good if you're feeling it. The cold brew is the best coffee in the neighborhood, for me. Sufficiently strong with a nice flavor and acidity, no bitterness. Always glad to have it. read more

This little neighborhood spot used to be great. I met a friend there today, and I was a little embarrassed. First off, it was my treat, but I needed the receipt, and it took almost 10 minutes for them to figure out how to retrieve my receipt. I guess it was amateur hour in there today. Secondly, the coffee was cold, and everyone working behind the counter was scowling, frowning, and grumpy. The almond croissants were ok, but for all the hype, I want to leave singing this place's praises, not feeling rejected by hipsters who should be really happy to have a job at all. I won't be back. To be fair it was a delicious loaf, hence the 3 stars, but you can get decent bread at Whole Foods for like 6 bucks. I'd be happy to pay 10, but 15 is just too much. (not to be confused with Saraghina restaurant) I've been a patron of both since they opened. The bakery seems to be mainly about coffee now. When you arrive they only ask you what coffee you want. If you want anything else it seems to be an inconvenience. I loved this place. I loved it for the fresh pasta, the fresh pizza dough, the fresh basil pesto but now that apparently the person who made the pesto is no longer working there they can't manage to make the pesto daily? It's not like pesto is challenging to make, everyone knows the ingredients. This is not rocket science. The pastries? Less and less filling, more and more greasy pastry. I won't even be buying these anymore. Why wait in line for these overpriced items? The bread is great as is the fresh pasta. They have fancy delicious meats that are super expensive, but very good. The pizza dough used to be a go-to but they are pre-boxing it up now and it is dried up and not good anymore. Buy your pizza dough at Wegmans now as we do instead. read more

I just adore this spot. It's sadly rare in NYC to find places that actually bake all their own pastries and breads in house (even so called "bakeries") but this place is the REAL DEAL! Had a fantastic chestnut flour miche, apricot jam filled croissant, and their riff on a ham and cheese croissant (I think it was with speck + fontina). Haven't tried the house made fresh pastas, but am eager to soon! Many of the grocery items are on the $$$ side, but come for the coffee and in house pastries + bread. Sooooo good! The pastries are beautiful and delicious (though they stopped making my favorite cookies; chocolate chip, peanut butter swirl), the micca is the best I've had, and don't forget the fresh pasta! I'm not the biggest coffee drinker, but my wife loves the cold brew during the summer. I decided to try this bakery and found that the prices are too high for their quality. I tried their lasagna; a $7 dollar small portion which wasn't even good. I was only able to eat half of it (about 4 spoonfuls). Their 4.25 spec filled croissants were mostly bread. This is definitely not a place I'll be going back to. read more

I've been here pretty regularly since I moved. They don't have the best coffee/ techniques in the neighborhood, but it's good and they have a variety of other fun things to try. The biggest convenience for me is they accept cards (I have a bad habit of rarely having cash). I can grab a latte on the weekend, maybe a baguette for lunch (they have a great selection of fresh breads for a good price), and some fruits from the deli across the street. The cheese is not the best for the price. They have great pastries to sample as well and one thing I used to like is they had cheap options (like tiny chocolate truffles and recently this amazing chocolate cream puff for $2.50) in a sea of ridiculously priced items. The most extreme example I noticed was an adorable plaid pie tote I considered getting for my baking nut sister. The price was a little skewed in the holder so I thought it was an very reasonable $7, when I moved it, I saw it was $37 for a flat version of a tote! Since I've been going there, the lines have gotten longer and the price of the cheaper items have gone up while the quality down (with the exception of the cream puff, which I expect they will inflate pretty soon). My favorites are the onion or plain focaccia and the linzer cookie. The coffee is a bit overpriced for the size of the cup, but worth it for the pasties. This is a great place to impress out-of-towners but can easily become part of your Saturday morning routine. And they take credit cards now!! read more

THE BACON JAM!!! oh my god... so i'm a HUGE HUGE fan of the restaurant here but dont really frequent the bakery, well i was feeling a little cash happy *probably due to 2 bloodys and a gin & tonic at the restaurant) and went in here and got a loaf of ciabatta, pork pate, bacon jam, and some mild cheese and oh my lord, i legit died and went to heaven.
