I chose this place because I was dining with a Vegan friend and they have Vegan options. The ambience is nice, but a little rowdy. Great place to have a drink and a nice meal. I sat in a booth, next to the bar, and there were many great drinks to select from. I had the Chicken Caprese sandwich with a side of Mac N Cheese. First, one of the best Mac N Cheese I've ever had! You can just tell when people serve it fresh and this place definitely does it fresh. The cheese had excellent flavor and was crisp to perfection on top. My chicken sandwich was amazing. I loved the bread crumb coating it was an excellent touch that made the sandwich less heavy than fried. The mix of chicken, cheese, and prosciutto was an excellent mix. Sub par food and drinks. Reviews sound great but my chicken sandwich would have been better from chick fila. We love pub food, trying new places and this place did not stand up. Maybe the entrees are better. We ordered the cauliflower wings which were ok, but very greasy. And two different chicken sandwiches. The breading on the chicken had no seasoning, and the fries were ok, nothing special. The service was ok. It wasn't busy and yet we didn't feel any personality. But I try to give everyone a second chance with service. (But we probably won't be back) the building is very old Spokane and interesting. A quirky movie theater is inside the building, Saranas itself had too many TVs for my liking and the bench was very unsupported. I felt like a child sitting in that booth. read more

Wow, so happy my coworker took me here on my last day in Spokane. I'm so pleased with my experience at the Saranac Public House. We arrived just in time for HH and started off by ordering some wine. I got the prosecco and my coworker got the rose. For food, we ordered brussels sprouts with bacon, pretzels, and half a chicken caesar salad. Omg, everything was made to order because they came out piping hot and tasted absolutely delicious!! The pretzels were so soft and warm, and I could not stop double dipping into the beer cheese on the side. I'm trying to lessen my carb intake, but I really had difficulty lol. Chicken caesar was so fresh with crunchy romaine lettuce and lots of shredded parmesan. The well-seasoned chicken breast was hot off the grill and laid on top of the bed of greens. It was so much better than the caesar salad we've had at Veraci. Overall, I highly recommend Saranac Public House and its HH menu. Ok, this place wasn't BAD. It also wasn't great.... Here's why: first off the place had a cool atmosphere and interesting decorations....that was tarnished by having a tv on EVERY wall. I had the chicken parm sandwich. It was good....except for eating just the fried chicken. No discernible flavor, whatsoever. Not sure if I caught her at a bad time time, but the waitress totally left her personality at home, or wherever the flavor was for the food. No friendliness (or unfriendliness for that matter) the whole experience was just not worth the price I paid. Perfect for picky eaters!! Whether I've had business dinners (more casual) or family in town, I always make sure to recommend Saranac because I know everyone will be able to find something they like. My go-to is the mac and cheese, my husband always gets the loco dip (? I think that's what it's called). Both are AMAZING and never disappoint-- seriously, I take mac and cheese seriously. Never had an issue with the service, everyone has always been kind, with only 1 experience sticking out a year ago where the waiter was annoyed with the christian convention across the street-- I think this was more a reflection however on the way the customers were treating the service-members than anything else. This restaurant was close to our hotel and so made the before and after dinner walk delightful. Many people on Yelp and the staff recommended the meatloaf, so I got the meatloaf (as one does who meatloaf). The meatloaf was good, it comes with mashed potatoes and plenty of gravy. It was good but not the best meatloaf I have ever had. The restaurant was busy but not overwhelmingly so, so it was disappointing that it took a while to get seat and staff seemed annoyed when we wanted to ask questions about items on the menu. We were staying in Spokane overnight on our way to Portland and got hungry (as one does at dinner time). Because I'm the one who is more persnickety about what I eat, I was put in charge of choosing our dinner spot. Mom stipulated only that outdoor seating was available. I liked the sound of this place and checked the menu. Veggie options and low carb friendly? Sign me up! We were greeted promptly and sat on the (charming) patio. Our server was friendly and helpful, and within three minutes of sitting down, we had drinks in hand. I got the zoodle salad with tofu, and Mom got the iron bowl with chicken. I loved my meal, especially because they got the grill flavor right (difficult to do with tofu!) and the zoodles were on point. Mom loved the teriyaki sauce because it was the right amount of sweetness (flavorful but not overwhelming), and the veggies were cooked the way she liked them. This is a spot I've never even considered because the term "public house" has typically meant that the food & drink is out of my price range or too sophisticated for my delicate palate. Someone else chose this place for a co-worker's going away dinner so I was obliged to attend. Not sorry that I did. The place itself is very nice inside. Overall very quiet for a place its size. The menu offered a decent variety of entrees and appetizers but not too many to be overwhelming. In retrospect, I'm regretting not ordering the pretzel and beer cheese as someone else did at our did--that looked delicious. As for the food we DID order, I'd definitely order again. I had the Mac & cheese with pulled pork the at was a big bowl of cheesy noodles with some nicely cooked and well flavored pork. My wife ordered the grilled meatloaf which was a couple of big slabs of meat presently very nicely with mashed potatoes & gravy. She said the only thing she'd have liked to see is maybe a green veg. Today, December 14, I ate at Saranac and ordered pretzels with cheese. When they were delivered to my table, I noticed that the cheese appeared to be less than halfway full. Upon further inspection, the cheese looked to have been re-used from another guest's plate; see the image below for reference. Additionally, I noticed the chefs do not wear hairnets, gloves, or follow any basic sanitizing procedures. I sat facing the kitchen the entire time, and watched as the cooks scratched themselves, touched their hair, and then went back to handling food, again without gloves. Working in food service, I know just how disgusting this is, and I am shocked that Saranac would allow their cooks to behave this way. As a long time patron I am disappointed, and am unlikely to return to this establishment. I have attached a picture of one of the cooks as well, because I hope ownership will take corrective action, and restore the restaurant to the place I once loved. read more

Tried 3 times here and their food is mehhhh. This time I ordered chicken fajita wrap and although there was guac inside it was very dried inside. Location is very convenient though since it's located in downtown. Parking can be a bit hard depending on what time you come. Terrible service. We arrived at 6:25 on a Monday. There was no one in line ahead of us waiting to be seated. They seemed extremely understaffed (not the reason for the poor review). There were only 2 people working the floor. BUT No one even acknowledged us as we waited for 30 minutes. No 'we will be right with you' or 'is it just the two of you?' They walked past us several times and said nothing. After 30 minutes of that, we chose to leave and give our money to another restaurant with better customer service. read more

I wanted to like this place better than I actually did. We went to Saranac on a Sunday night and they were reasonably busy and had a large party on one side of the restaurant. The server warned us to order before party and we did, but the food was still exceptionally slow to arrive. And no fault to the establishment on this, we all know that staffing shortages are real, and especially on a Sunday night. I had the pretzels and a beer as I wasn't exceptionally hungry. The pretzels came with my companions food which was almost an hour in waiting. The pretzel was fine, no complaints. I liked the sauces too. However, 3 of my companions got a version of the fried chicken sandwich. All were over cooked and one was room temp. We sent the room temp one back and the replacement sandwich was also over cooked. Clearly the kitchen was already slammed, but to not fix a problem with overcooking to the point of almost burnt? Well they need to limit the menu on nights like this to accommodate what the kitchen can produce or limit seating in the same way. Anyway, the server was great and attentive and took the returned sandwich completely off our tab after the second failure. We appreciated that and the serving staff's care and attention would be a reason to return. Just fry the chicken a little less, m'kay? read more

On 6/17/19, at about 5:30pm, we were greeted right away, sat at the bar, and drink orders were taken. Harris was our bartender/server. He is kind, professional, and welcoming. He was attentive and refilled my Diet Coke 3x, without me even asking. Give him a raise!Also, the salsa is great. It's fresh & spicy without being nuclear. Last, the plates were well formed in appearance, and the quesadilla was STUFFED, unlike many thin ones at most places. The bad: (Everything that came from the kitchen) We couldn't find if there was a happy hour anywhere on the menus, till we asked Harris. (It's $1 off some draughts, $1 off appetizers, and $1 off flatbreads.) We ordered Chips/salsa, with the menu's side cheese recommendation, which was AWFUL. It was like a bland cheese soup made of milk & kraft slices (not cheese), which was hot, but not mixed. The milk stayed on top, and the cheese-product stayed at the bottom. The cheese product also had no flavor, no peppers, no nothing. I'm baffled why it would be paired with chips & salsa. As I mentioned above, the quesadilla was packed with great stuff & it looked great on the plate, BUT IT WAS COLD AND HAD NO EVIDENCE IT TOUCHED THE GRILL/GRIDDLE! None of the cheese was melted. I took it home to broil it in my oven a few hours later, this making it amazing. I just don't see a reason to go back. I used to hold this place in really high regard. read more

This is my second time here. First time having lunch here and the price was reasonable. The place wasn't too busy with just about right noise level on a Monday noon. Staff was patient and friendly. They have some vegan, gluten free and vegetarian options available. I ordered the Saranac burger and it came with a side options like salad, house soup, mac and cheese (regular or vegan). I choose to try the later, vegan mac and cheese (first time having vegan type of food) and it did not disappoint. I rarely eat bread or sandwich type of foods, but I enjoyed my huge burger very well. It was juicy and tasty. My mother ordered the Burger Dip and sister ordered Salmon were also very pleased with their meal. We all shared chips and salsa for appetizer and Banana Nac for dessert. Everything was great except for the Banana Nac, it was too sweet for us. Overall, this is a great lunch place. I recommend you give this place a try and bring your friends and family. read more

Server still doesn't bring water. I walk to the bar and ask if I can get two waters for our table, the bartender says "oh I suppose so", trying to be humorous I suppose but after the subpar service I wasn't feeling it. Service is slightly better with the next server, he's pretty hit and miss and never checks in about the food. I ask about the missing bread before he brings the check and ask for a to go order for my husband. I am informed that since I ordered the red lentil pasta it's gluten free therefore doesn't come with the bread (because it's not gluten free, ok). That would have been nice to know before ordering as I wasn't ordering due to a dietary restriction and could have picked something else. All in all it was ok, the mac and cheese was good, not what as awesome as advertised, the Caesar salad was great, the lemonade was decent, had a good seat. Are here for lunch today. Fun little restaurants with lots of beers on tap. Lunch wasn't too busy, found parking on the street for pretty cheap. We started with the warm pretzel with mustard and beer cheese dip. This was delicious! The mustard has a kick and we even saved the beer cheese sauce to use on our entrees. I had the bacon burger, was cooked as requested. The Mac and cheese side was awesome. Creamy cheesy goodness. Definitely recommend walking the block or two of you are in town for a convention and need to head offsite for a lunch or dinner. read more

We were a large group and so we needed to wait for an area big enough. Me and a friend ordered a drink at a table in the bar, but not at the bar. When a group of tables was empty and our group was moving to it, we were told we needed to stay at our current table because we ordered drinks. Not happy about that at all.
