Are here for lunch today. Fun little restaurants with lots of beers on tap. Lunch wasn't too busy, found parking on the street for pretty cheap. We started with the warm pretzel with mustard and beer cheese dip. This was delicious! The mustard has a kick and we even saved the beer cheese sauce to use on our entrees. I had the bacon burger, was cooked as requested. The Mac and cheese side was awesome. Creamy cheesy goodness. Definitely recommend walking the block or two of you are in town for a convention and need to head offsite for a lunch or dinner. read more

Ambiance is great. Lots of seat and good for groups. Service was fantastic and very accommodating to our ever changing group. My only real complaint is the food. I got the stir fry noodle dish and it had zero flavor. Almost like there wasn't even salt. No peppers, siracha, or any of the real Asian flavors like soy sauce. My colleague had the rice stir fry and said the same thing. Another colleague had the pizza flat bread and said it was good so perhaps it was just the "Asian" dishes that weren't great. Beer selection was good but would like to have seen more local microbrews available. read more

I have eaten here a few times and the food was pretty good, not the bet but good. I was craving the cauliflower wings so I ordered some to go, along with the mac and cheese and I was SO disappointed from the second I arrived the pick it up. They charged me a $4 "to go" fee which is ridiculous since they don't even have to serve me or give me theirs table for the next hour. The restaurant was 15 minutes to closing when I picked the food up, but I was aware of this and made sure to put my order in around 8pm so they had plenty of time and I didn't make it difficult for them. The cauliflower wings were awful, they had absolutely no sauce of them (which they are usually covered in sauce) and you could tell they were the last ones they had for the day cause they had scrapings and goo. The Mac and cheese was also half the normal portion, cold, and VERY runny which it normally isn't. SO SAD that I don't want to go back here now and my bill was $40! read more

Came here for my friends birthday dinner. The ambiance is dark and cozy. The place is pretty big and spaced out with rooftop dining for special events. They have vegan options for everything. I ordered a Cucumber Moscow Mule. The drink was pretty good although it could have used a little more cucumber. One of my friends ordered a regular Moscow mule and it tasted like it was lacking a lot of ginger beer. For dinner I ordered the Thai Rice Salad with coconut rice. There's an option to have it with jasmine rice and with chicken or tofu. The Thai rice salad was well portioned. The chicken was a little too charred for my liking but the creamy, spicy, and nutty rice salad made up for it. There was a perfect amount of vegetables in the dish. It was delicious. I would definitely order it again. We asked if they did anything for birthdays and our server said that they usually don't, but would this time. Our server brought out a chocolate pudding with crushed chocolate graham and it was so good! read more

Okay Saranac. The $17 salmon burger on a "brioche" bun. Not on a brioche bun. More like the absolute cheapest store bought bun you could buy, with a single thick slice of tomato, piece of lettuce and sad slice of onion. It wasn't even toasted and felt cheaper than fast food. The other meals we purchased were cold, like sitting under a heat lamp cold, (room temperature in the middle) which makes me worry about food poisoning if you're not keeping things hot enough/ not nuking pre-made meals enough. The place is amazing. Lots of different food options. And I have enjoyed many of them. Tonight, because of the great reviews, I ordered Thai flatbread with chicken, I was very disappointed. The peanut sauce was thick, very sweet and over powered the entire dish. Chicken was cubed and sparse, and peppers were also limited. Didn't see any carrots or cilantro. There were however lots of peanuts. I ate two pieces, brought the rest home and tossed in the garbage. Good service and great ambiance. I will not order Thai Chicken Flatbread from here again. I'm giving five stars because it's a great restaurant, just don't order the Thai Flatbread. read more

Right up there when it comes to the best places in Spokane to go with friends .. eat, share, drink, chat, laugh, return. And when the friends are vegetarian (no meat no egg) .. this place is double the fun .. lot of veggie options. Me !! well .. I like their food .. be it baked pretzels with that beer cheese sauce or thai chicken flatbread .. Their tacos could be prepared with grilled tofu too .. so +1 for vegetarian once again. Decided to give Saranac another try during takeout procedures in April 2020. I probably won't go back for a while. Food tasted okay, but the portions were tiny. I ordered the Italian sandwich, which was about the size of a dollar bill, with a handful of fries, for $14. That is unacceptable. Taste was fine, not incredible. We also ordered the Thai noodles or something like that, and the same was true for that. We've had them before in restaurant and felt the takeout portion was smaller. I hope this place makes it through everything going on, but they could help themselves out with better (and more accurately priced) food. read more

Had a great experience on a Monday evening. I have seen how busy this place can get and have shyed away from going inside a few times. Nice atmosphere of old downtown Spokane. I love how businesses are embarrassing the "bones" of the old buildings. They are many great stories in to be told. My story involves a Moscow Mule and pretzels. The Saranac can be crowded on the weekends and evenings as your head towards Friday. They have a decent rotation of local beers on tap, and if you sit in the bar area, service is attentive. Most of my visits tend to be towards closing or early in the week, and you can generally just pull up to a table, no waiting. The vegan mac'n'cheese is amazing, as is the chili (when they have it as their soup of the day). They have a number of great vegan options, and aren't judgmental about it, when you order. Always a plus. It's a nice space on Main Street to grab a drink, that's not super loud like most of the other places in that stretch. read more

Service is usually good, but it seems to have slowed down over the years or it's because the previous servers had A+ game. Ok let's talk about food. Best mac and cheese in town made with four white cheeses, topped with bread crumbs. If anyone thinks otherwise, fight me. Their house salad is one of my favorites in town too - greens, goat cheese, green apple, nuts with an apple vinaigrette and comes with a side of toasted garlic bread. Salsa is delicious and you can get more chips (and sometimes salsa) if you ask. Pretzel is housemate, soft and comes with that amazing cheese and mustard. Hubs loves their Thai flatbread. This is not really an update. It is a new review. I haven't been to Saranac for a while and today I went and had a delightful lunch with a friend. I chose the Moroccan lentil soup and the Thai rice bowl for lunch; my companion had The vegetarian burger and excellent Mac and cheese. The soup was delicious and I wish I had ordered a bowl instead of a cup. The Thai rice bowl plus grilled tofu was also very good--and very generous in size. The one place where I felt the meal didn't quite reach the Mark was that although there were grill marks on the tofu it had not been seasoned in anyway. I'm not sure why the chef chose to serve it unseasoned. Saranac has a very pleasant friendly ambience that seems perfect for a casual lunch read more

Went here as a group of 4 and we each ordered something a little different. Start with the good-the mac and cheese and cheese sauce (with the chips and salsa) is amazing!!! My dad ordered the meatloaf which we all tried...sooooo good. Grilled on the outside and the gravy was bomb. Not so good was the pulled pork sammy and the cauli-burger. Had to ask for extra sauce on the side because they were both dry. I prefer my food with less sauce but even this was a little too dry for me. I love a place like this! The ambiance is delightful. Modern meet hipster brewhouse. I went here both on a Yelp review and buy suggestion of the local, front desk worker at my hotel. I'm glad I did! my only regret, is even though I had the cheese sauce dip, I did not have the macaroni and cheese which is essentially the same cheese sauce with pasta. That makes me stupid, for dipping the fries in the same cheese sauce was also quite good. Overall, I've had three meals on this trip, this might be my favorite. Okay I have gone here many times, it used to be one of my favorite places to go to in downtown but it has gone down hill over the years. The Staff don't check on you that much at all, and the food doesn't really stand out that much anymore either. My siblings and I went out to dinner here and our food didn't take very long to come out, but we were waiting to pay for about a hour and a half. No one came to check in on us. When people from out of town ask me for a recommendation this is where I send them. It's long been one of my favorite restaurants. And it all started because I went to a movie at the Magic Lantern. I call it elevated pub food! It's especially nice because they have vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options galore! The vegan cheese sauce with a pretzel is my favorite appetizer (my friends still don't believe it's not "real cheese"). The chips and salsa are great too but watch out that salsa has a mighty kick! Traveled to Spokane to visit my son and his girlfriend who recently move there. I googled for the best Mac and cheese. Per the reviews, I decided to try here. I walked in and stood by the door for about 5-10 minutes while 3 waiters stood by the bar talking to each other and 2 waitresses were helping tables. Not one person said hi to acknowledge me nor did they give me any direction as to whether or not I should seat myself. I will not go back nor will I recommend to others. Wowowowow. I wanted to try everything on the menu! I got the cauli burger. Not bad! The whole wheat bun was a little too thick the burger was a little too dry (not sure if it was dry from the bun or the burger itself, and not enough sauce?) but the flavors were delicious. Fries were warm, crispy, and had a little salt and pepper seasoning. YUM! Good fry sauce too They have plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. There's really something for everyone. Stopped by yesterday on a whim. We were walking around and saw it but didn't want to go to a chain restaurant. The experience was mixed. The reviews for this place are great but every place has a bad day now and again. I've worked restaurants - I know that these things happen. My friend's flatbread was piled with cheese. I think the cheese had extra cheese on it. Like, colon-clogging amounts of cheese. My chicken sandwich was dry and had no real flavor. The wait staff was inattentive (we did come at the end of the lunch rush so she was probably tired). All in all it was an okay experience. Not great but not bad. I wish I'd been there during one of their 5-star rated meals but you can't always get what you want. read more

I settled on the blackened salmon sliders ($14) with the house salad. They were amazing! Two sliders with BIG, beautifully blackened salmon pieces falling out of their brioche rolls. They were dressed with lettuce, onion, avocado and a lovely remoulade. The salad had spring mix with goat cheese, diced apple, roasted hazelnuts with a light and citrusy vinaigrette.
