We came to this Sarku to take some chicken teriyaki home for dinner. It was a stand alone store with parking spots right in front. Inside the store, ithere were table and cushiony seats available for dine-in. The menu had all the different teriyakis, side dishes, and sushi rolls available. We ordered a chicken teriyaki with rice and another chicken and shrimp teriyaki with just vegetables. The prices were good, under $11 for just chicken teriyaki. Both items were ready in couple of minutes, super quick service. The chicken, shrimps and rice had good taste. Rice and vegetables seemed fresh too. P.S. Stopped in for a quick lunch and I regretted it. I ordered a vegetable spring roll and two fusion sushi rolls and my guy had chicken teriyaki, which was reported to be a bit too greasy and did not have much flavor. As for my meal, the spring roll was fine, but the sushi rolls were not good. The green dragon roll (Shrimp tempura and cream cheese, avocado on top with eel sauce and masago on top) was the better of the two, but not great.... it really seemed like the avocado slices on top of the roll had been pickled, which I did not like. My second roll was the volcano roll (Spicy tuna on top of California roll with spicy mayo, scallion and crunchy flakes on top) which tasted fishy to me and I didn't eat much of. Japanese-style fast food in a casual setting. You can satisfy your fix for teriyaki, bento, and sushi for a fair price. I'm so happy this is a stand-alone restaurant because I don't have to deal with the craziness of mall food courts. There are a few parking spots available up front. I order the chicken teriyaki with rice and veggies. Value is great for ~$9. They are not skimpy with the meat or sauce so their portions are filling. Sarku Japan is fast casual Japanese food ( like a Chipotle for Mexican). Inexpensive meals that are good for a budget and a change of pace than the regular fast casual Chinese food that is more abundant in our area. I have had sushi rolls all over and these are OK. Built for the price. Not as flavorful as a top end sushi place. The Shrimp Tempura & Volcano rolls were OK. Not huge on flavor. I also had the fried dumplings (Gyozo). Again it is what it is. Personally I rather wait and spend a bit more for a higher quality product especially when eating fish. Maybe the hot entrees (like Beef Nagamachi) are what's really worth the trip. read more

The container is different than the one from teterboro so I'm not sure if it's the same size but seems slightly smaller. The food is pretty greasy but tasted good nonetheless. This is not in any means "quality" Japanese food. It's food court at the mall Asian food. For what it is, it's fine. Cheap and fast. Good? That's up to you. I am not impressed. The location is the building that was formerly Lamborghini of Bergen County. It's right near National Wholesale Liquidators off of Route 17. I ordered the chicken teriyaki special it was $4.99 and it came with rice and steamed veggies. Also had the dumplings. I was hoping they would be steamed but they were pan fried and did not taste fresh. If you're looking for fast, Asian food then this place isn't terrible. I love this Sarku. The employees are fast and the food is fresh! Can't beat a huge lunch for under $6! I always get the chicken teriyaki, but I think next time I'll try the tofu teriyaki. Their chicken egg rolls are pretty tasty too but I think they should only charge $1 for them because they aren't made to order. Ask for extra sauce on the side for no charge. Trust me. The food is grilled and made right in front of you fresh which makes a difference. The chicken and shrimp are delicious. They have average prices for the quality of food and amount you receive. I really would not recommend the sushi though. It is just ok nothing that great in my opinion. I would pick Sarku Japan over any regular Chinese spot any day based on the freshness and quality versus the cost. I come here about once a month or so. 3.49 stars. I rounded down. I was surprised to see that there are free standing Sarkus, as I thought this was a mall only fast food joint. I was doubly surprised that this place opened up so close by. This Sarku is located right off of the Essex St. exit of rt. 17. Parking is a breeze, as they have their own parking lot. I only really get one thing from Sarku. Chicken teriyaki with white rice and steamed vegetables. Its only $4.99 for a good amount of food. The quality is meh, but it tastes good every now and then. I haven't really tried anything else from their menu, other than a soft drink, and I don't think I will. Their bento boxes are pricey. They offer the usual fried options, sushi, chicken, beef, shrimp, and vegetables teriyaki with or without the extra sauce. When I'm craving chicken teriyaki, this is my go to spot. I usually get the chicken teriyaki with extra sauce over lo mein, California sushi, fried shrimp with vegetable tempura and a salad. I know,I know, it's a lot of food so I do eat it over 2 sittings. The salad is nice and refreshing and sushi is perfect. Shrimp & vegetable tempura are good, but a bit on the heavy side, on some occasions I will remove the breading overall. Chicken with lo mein are very good but also heavy and oily but oohhh soooo good!!! The dinning room is nice and large with plenty of seating. Food is usually ready within 5 minutes after ordering. I am always down for some Sarku. One of the best macro friendly "fast food" chains out there. There chicken is always yummy and I love there sauce. This location unfortunately does not have yum yum sauce, and no brown rice. The chicken was not overcooked like some locations (Garden state plaza) and they gave you more sauce no charge. Sometimes I'll change it up and get lo mien, but I find that they can be very oily. I intend to try more things on the menu, but my main reason for going here is usually because I'm craving their chicken teriyaki whose sauce has great flavor, so don't be shy if you want extra. Sarku is one of those places you just want to hate. It's like an Asian McDonald's but they give you vibrating things to tell you your order is ready rather than keep you waiting at the counter. I eat a lot of sushi. I eat a lot of excellent quality sushi at a lot of expensive and fru fru sushi places. Sarku is most definitely not one of them, however, and this is a rather large HOWEVER, they make the best California Rolls on the planet, bar none. The crab or faux crab as it probably is, is shredded and in perfect proportion to the avocado, rice, etc. Now I realize that this, in an of itself, does not qualify them for high sushi marks but on this one basic staple, they cannot be beat and for that, 4 Stars! What can I say! It's Sarku & it's pretty good sushi, especially for the price! These are the same guys that are a staple in most malls in the area, it's good quality sushi though so don't be fooled. Very tasty, fresh, and after years and years of eating at various locations of this franchise, I've never had a bad meal. If you're looking for decent, good quality sushi at a fair price, this is a great place to do it. It's not bad by any means & on par with your small, average sushi joint. This is my favorite Sarku Japan location. The Yelp hours are incorrect. This location closes at 9:30pm everyday. The service is fast, the food is consistent, and it's easy to keep track of your order with the beeper system they use. Definitely my go to spot for chicken teriyaki. I like Sarku Japan. I've eaten here many times. Definitely more than 20. or 30. The numbers are going to go up anyway. First, you must notice that it's $6.29 for a chicken teriyaki. I don't know about you, but every time I finish the entire thing I feel like my stomach is going to burst open with the little chicken chunks tumbling out like bingo balls. $6.29 is totally worth it for how much they give you. If you're trying to be frugal, you can very easily split the dish into 2 meals. 3 dollars a meal! Second, the food is good. Not brain-blasting good, but good enough to attract regulars. Third, this is definitely one of the better Sarku Japans as compared to the Teterboro one and the Bergen Mall one. I'm not sure what they do differently, but I won't complain. Extra chicken is literally the same as getting a regular order of chicken teriyaki. Basically when they charge you extra chicken, they add extra rice to the bottom to look like it was extra. So you really paying $1.59 for extra rice. I was bought shrimp tempura, and the shrimp looks like they cooked it this morning and saved it all day. It wasn't even busy but very disappointed. Okay so I ordered the chicken bento and it was delicious! I first ordered it with brown rice but I assumed the lady didn't hear me so when I received it I told her that I wanted brown rice. The manager said she didn't charge me for it but they could put it on the side for me with no charge. I said it was okay bc I had enough as it was. I sat down and the manager personally brought me a full plate of brown rice and chicken. He said my apologies and I thanked him. That was very kind of him and represented the company well! Well, all the reviews seem to agree that for a fast food, chain restaurants, Sarku is cheap and the least likely to kill you, so thumbs up for that! And that's pretty much all it has going for it. I always get the chicken teriyaki with veggies (lightly cooked, mostly cabbage) and with brown/white rice. Don't bother with fried rice--it's tasteless, clearly frozen veggies, and takes away what flavor you'll get from the teriyaki. As for the teriyaki, what can you say? It's a decent, cheap fill. (Although, somehow, I've had better Sarku from the mall than from here.) And don't forget the hot sauce packets they give you! It's the cream on top! Word of advice: Don't get the sushi. This is my family's favorite restaurant chain. My husband, my son (a 4 year old), and I eat here once or twice a month. The food is delicious, fast, and affordable. Our most favorite location in Bergen County is the one in Lodi, because it's just the restaurant -- while other locations are by the malls.
