Categorizing dentists in a less than favorable stack-ranking in my life of people to highly avoid - Dr. Balacky and his team made my wisdom tooth/coronectomy procedure shockingly smooth. From the moment I walked in, the staff was warm, reassuring, and incredibly professional. They clearly knew I was one of those patients (internally panicking but trying to act cool), and they handled it with consideration, patience, and zero judgment. Dr. Balacky explained everything clearly, laid out my options with rationale, and somehow made a fairly intimidating procedure feel manageable. The actual surgery was quick and far less dramatic than I had built it up to be in my head (the drugs obvi helped). His skill and calm demeanor (w/ a little bit of humor) made a huge difference. He even called me after the surgery to see how I was doing. Had my Post-op appointment today and though I'm still in a bit of pain, he reassured me that that was completely normal, especially considering I'm not a teenager anymore lol. If you're someone who would rather do literally anything else than go to the dentist but the resurrection of a wisdom tooth has decided to ruin your life --this is your place. However, when I arrived, it seemed like they had other plans that day. Instead of the treatment, the dentist said he would do a cleaning. The cleaning was done very quickly about five minutes and did not feel thorough at all. Also I visited on March 6 and at the beginning, I was told that everything would be covered by Medi-Cal. However, after the treatment, I was told that I needed to pay $400 for two teeth. This was very surprising because Medi-Cal usually covers root canal treatments, and the cost was not explained to me in advance. Later they said that the dentist was invited from another office and that I had to pay extra for his experience. This was only mentioned after the treatment was completed. Unfortunately, my teeth are still hurting after the visit, and I was not given a receipt for the payment. Overall, I am very disappointed with the experience and the lack of transparency about the costs. It feels misleading when patients are told that Medi-Cal will cover the treatment and then asked to pay extra afterward. I would not recommend this clinic.

I had no problems with the work done, or at least I though so.. In the spring of 2025, I went for a checkup, and Dr Kalasho was on leave and her replacement told me I developed another 2 cavities... just a few months after the original cavity was fixed. I couldnt believe my ears and I agreed to fix it. However, they had just closed the Hollywood office, and the closest location would have then been in Beverly Hills and I had no interest in visiting not even once. And I didnt have time to look for a new denist in the area. Fast forward to the spring 2026, I went to 2 different reputable denists in the area and they both said I had no cavity in that tooth.. I was in awe. Questions came flashing back.. Why every time did I have to sign the waiver 10x longer and more specific than at other denist's I have gone to? Why I was charged 5k for a crown that another denist said did not have that u-shape that teeth have to block most of the food in between the teeth? Was it as bad as I was made to believe? I don't know. But my suspicious makes sense. The office and the equipmennt that looked better than I have seen in Hollywood movies. Friendly chit-chat WITH LITERALLY EVERYONE in the office. Talking about families, sharing personal stories, laughing together. And then the friendly by the way reminder.. Do you want to prepay? Let's take care of this bill right away etc etc. At the end of the day, however, I couldnt shake the feeling how forced the interactions appeared. Too good to be true, fake. When I made my appointment, I was explicitly told over the phone that they accepted CareCredit. When I arrived, however, I was told they could not accept it for my consultation because the charge was under $250. There seems to be confusion between the minimum transaction amount required for promotional financing and the minimum amount required to use a CareCredit account. Those are not the same thing. During my consultation, I was told that I was not a candidate for the procedure I had been referred for and that I would instead need an extraction. I was understandably devastated, but proceeded with the necessary imaging so I could understand my options. That imaging was over $200 but, conveniently, still below their alleged $250 minimum for CareCredit. I was then given a treatment estimate of over $5,000. I was told that the periodontist had spoken with my primary dentist and that my dentist would be calling me to discuss the situation and possible options. I specifically said I wanted to speak with him before agreeing to any further treatment. Despite following up, I never received that call, so I have no idea what was actually discussed. The billing experience was equally frustrating. Before I left, I was repeatedly asked to pay for the imaging, but was told I could not use CareCredit. No one offered to combine the consultation and imaging charges so that the total could be processed through CareCredit. Instead, I was directed toward other payment options. I declined and left the balance unpaid. I have since seen other reviews mentioning concerns about billing transparency, and unfortunately, my experience reinforced those concerns. I am happy to pay any legitimate remaining balance using CareCredit, as I was told when I scheduled that this office accepted it. I am certain that CareCredit's merchant department will address whether this office's payment practices comply with their agreement. One final note: the office is located in a visibly dilapidated building that is currently under construction. Given the cost of these services, I was surprised that there was no dedicated patient restroom, only a single women's restroom in the hallway shared by other businesses. I waited for nearly 10 minutes for the person occupying the restroom to come out, and then gave up and stopped elsewhere on my way home.

Even when I mentioned that I felt like I had certain procedures done before, the dentist stated that if I had that information to provide then it would alleviate some of the other steps that I would have to take that he had mentioned. The reason for my 3-star rating is the pain management aspect of my experience. After surgery, I experienced severe pain that lasted nearly two weeks. During that time, I was unable to work, and could do little beyond resting and trying to manage the discomfort. I understand the doctor's position that studies show Tylenol and ibuprofen are often the most effective approach, and I also understand that stronger pain medications should be prescribed carefully. However, in my case, I felt that the severity of my pain was not taken seriously when I expressed concerns and requested additional relief. I don't think it's one size fits all, and everyone's bodies and pain tolerances are different, and I'm sure the infection I had prior to the surgery didn't help the pain aspect. The small amount of stronger pain medication I was prescribed was the only thing that provided meaningful relief, allowing me to sleep and function without being in constant distress, along with icing my face, but it did not last me enough to be able to go back to work and function, which was very frustrating. I'm in my late 20s, so perhaps my recovery was more difficult than average. Regardless, every patient experiences pain differently and recovers differently. I have full confidence in this doctor's skill and professionalism, but I wish there had been more flexibility and consideration for my individual circumstances when it came to pain management. That part of the experience has made me hesitant about returning, despite my positive impression of the doctor and the quality of the surgery itself.
