Came here on a Saturday for lunch with the excitement to have chicken and waffles. Waffles drenched with oil very bad taste chicken amazing. They can take some notes from tap 42 on their chicken and waffles or if you ever want to take a trip to Nashville that give you insight as well. I must admit- Groupon brought me here! My husband and I were served a 4 course me (plus some added parts on our end) thanks to a great Groupon deal. We made a reservation for a Friday night. And boy, were they busy! Packed dining room and outdoor area. Happy to see it! We started with the Debutante cocktail. Absolutely delicious! We enjoyed it for half of our meal - would've loved the chance to order a second but our server was busy, busser took away the empty glasses without asking. It's OK- it happens. We ordered the fried green tomatoes as a starter. Accompanied by a chili honey and ricotta, it sounded great! The breading was very crispy and the tomato was a little mushy, so it was a different bite than what I was expecting. But the flavor of the accompaniments with the fried green tomato was absolutely delicious! Then for the beginning of our 4 course, we had an arugula salad with figs, mushrooms, and almonds. It was such a unique blend of flavors. I devoured mine! The shrimp and grits were up next. Our favorite item of the entire experience! We practically licked the bowl. This is the item I will refer anyone to order and will keep coming back to get! A little bit of spice, the grits weren't too heavy and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. We shared the fried chicken which was tender, full of flavor and we loved the option to put the honey on top. We got to choose 2 sides to go with it. We did not particularly enjoy the dirty rice or macaroni and cheese that we chose as our sides. The mac was very smokey and the top was pretty charred. The dirty rice was something new to us. I'm glad we tried it, but I felt like it was missing something. Lastly we had the chocolate tart, which was very rich! I wish we had half the amount of chocolate and a little bit of whip cream to go with it - but now I'm just being picky! We still ate the whole thing lol. Overall, I would recommend this place for delicious food! Try to avoid the higher traffic times if you can, but this place is truly worth the try! Okay where do I even start with this amazing restaurant.?! Well, let's just start by saying I am totally HAPPY that I made reservations the day before because sassafras was a full house! The wait would've been up to 1 hour and a half on a Sunday, so I definitely would recommend to make reservations. I arrived in the middle of brunch around 1pm and excitedly ordered my pimento cheese appetizer and a bottomless mimosa. The pimento cheese was absolutely flavorful and not tangy at all. Definitely the best cheese that I've had so far. While eating my appetizer and sipping my mimosa on a fine Sunday, I was surprised by a drag show haha. I was definitely in for a surprise since I've never ever been to a drag show before but overall they were friendly and very energetic. Our waiter Jared informed us that they had these different drag shows twice a month on random dates. Okay so about 30 minutes after a couple of delicious mimosas and our appetizer. I wanted to order the eggs Benedict but I was too late because some of the ingredients were finished. I opted for the fried egg, bacon, home style fries, and toast. My friend went for the fried chicken and waffle which she mentioned was very flavorful. Our plates were loaded, so we decided to take some home. We finished off our meals with beignets. This was my first time ever having beignets, but I quickly realized they were not my favorite. I didn't like how the beignets weren't sweet, but granted there was a caramel dip given. Overall, I would not try them again. P.S. Jared our waiter was the absolute BEST !!! He was such a sweet heart and made our visit AMAZING! The service was great, we were appreciated and before we could look for our waitress she was there to ask if everything was okay. We sat by the chef area and had an absolutely wonderful experience! Chris made the experience exceptional speaking to us as he prepped and made the food. We ordered quite a few things and all were delicious! My favorite was the fried green tomatoes. The crisp on them was flavorful and the sauce they served it with was creamy and added to the taste. The lobster deal is well worth coming in on a Friday! The steak with the Demi glaze was full of flavor and tenderness. Made a 7 pm reservation and was seated straight away but then forgotten as no one came and offered menus or water for 15 min . Finally someone came over and asked if we saw the girl at the desk before seating ourselves and we explained she seated us . He then said no one told him and they would be back . They then brought menus and after that the service was prompt and Kristie was a cheerful girl that took care of us . We ordered our food which all came out very quickly and it was all very tasty and different . We like the different part . The gnocchi was my personal favorite! We tried a little bit of everything being that there were 4 of us so we shared small plates . Which weren't so small. The prices were reasonable as well . At the end for dessert we tried the cobbler and donuts , they were just ok. They ran out of the bread pudding but oddly enough being a subculture they ran out of espresso ! Fantastic double cheeseburger on a sesame-seeded toasted bun - fantastic fries (always piping hot), very friendly staff. I'm also a fan of the always fresh and warm cheddar biscuits, the Little Gem Salad, the Fried Green Tomatoes and the little complimentary ice-cream cones the staff brings with your check. Our first time here and we loved it! We came for happy hour so we could order a few things. We started off with some drinks - the Palm Beach Pineapple and Flagler's Fortune. Sassafras's happy hour includes 50% off all drinks except their specialty cocktails so our drinks were not included in the happy hour but we ordered them anyway because, let's face it, any restaurant can serve beer and wine. It's the specialty cocktails that separate the men from the boys. And these specialty cocktails didn't disappoint. The Palm Beach Pineapple is small but very good. Had brunch at Sassafras on Sunday. We made a reservations not knowing there was a drag show. The show was everything you could want in a drag show for a venue that size. It was super entertaining. The host was very funny and was a great MC. We had the biscuits to start and they were amazing. For my entree I had the Fried Chicken and Waffles. This was a straight up 5 star brunch experience for me. I had been trying to eat here since the pandemic and finally got around to it. Reservations are always recommended. Amazing bunch food with great potatoes, cheddar biscuits, and honey bun. Wow, that honey bun! Eggs were generous as well as everything else and the taste was vibrant and rather impressive. It's a quaint little restaurant where the decor doesn't usually match but it works perfectly. They have inside and outside seating and quite a few vegetarian options. I had the eggs & biscuits minus gravy. My friend had the brunch burger, he gobbled that bad boy and his wife had the eggs and bacon, it was so much food we actually shared our plates. Street parking only in this area and please keep an eye on the timer as I saw plenty of people getting parking tickets. You can also park at a garage and forget about the clock. The foods were good (not great); service was slow even though there were less than 10 people dining in at the time.
