We hadn't been here for awhile and decided to have lunch there. There were only 2 couples in the entire place and they were near the entrance. The hostess was going to seat us far left of the entrance where no one sat. I asked to open the curtains as it was very dark inside and outside was a beautiful, sunny, Spring day. The hostess asked the sushi chef who said "NO!" the sun would bother customers. HUH? We would be the only customers in the sun. He wouldn't budge so I said "Fine. We'll go elsewhere." The man said "OK" and we left. The owner needs to teach this person about manners, customer service, and making money. No, we won't go back and won't recommend. Place an order on Yelp I got there and they asked to confirm my order because sometimes people lie about paying for orders. I thought this was a little rude but I understand and gladly showed them the email confirmation. One of the employees asked me something but not quite sure what she said so I asked her to repeat she grunted and walked away. So disappointed. The baked green muscles were very chewey, clearly frozen. I gave up trying to eat them. Miso soup was frome a rehydrated packet you get at the store. The teriyaki steak was a cheap tough rather flavorless cut of meat. You can tell by the taste of the tea that the iced tea container is not cleaned frequently enough. There was one stressed server at lunch time. I felt bad for her. But, the Golden Tiger roll was presnted nicely and was tasty. Certainly not worth the price. There are definitely better sushi restaurants/ bars in Upland. This place is the best Ayce sushi around Rancho. One of the few places that offers Escolar both raw and seared. From the two visits while I was here I have concluded the following. Pro: All if the fish tasted fresh and not frozen both of my visit. Service is prompt and friendly. Con: Fish to ride portion is average. Ikura was fishy on both visits does not taste very fresh. 2 rounds instead of 3. Not a deal breaker but might matter to some. I walked into a ghost town of an establishment at 12:30 (red flag #1) and I ordered 4 rolls (Michelle, Dragon, Crunchy Dragon & Tiger rolls) which totaled a ridiculous $75 dollars. Upon being served the rolls their presentation was lazily constructed and smelled fishy (red flag #2) . 3 of the rolls appeared to be California rolls stuffed with rock hard shrimp tempura (probably a few days old) while the "Michelle" roll was a warm heaping mound of warm imitation crab with fishy smelling salmon. My wife and I picked at the food and we still were unlucky enough to get stomach aches that later turned into food poisoning. NEVER coming back here! read more

Came here on a Sunday for lunch as I was craving sushi. It wasn't crowded and I was seated right away. The lady took my order as I ordered Washington roll, Hawaiian roll and 2 salmon sushi. When I received my order I was given tuna sushi instead of salmon but I didn't let them know they had gotten my order wrong. As I took a piece of the Washington roll, dipped it in siracha it immediately fell apart. The rice was hard, and it wasn't even a California roll. It was nothing but mushy imitation crab with a thin sliced piece of salmon. Same thing with the Hawaiian roll nothing but imitation crab with a thin sliver of tuna. The tuna sushi was tiny chunk of hard rice with a nice tuna slice but as soon as you dipped it in soy sauce or siracha it just fell apart. read more

My daughter and her husband brought us here, having said that it was very good. A little hidden as it is set back from the main drag, and it is a small place. The bar itself is larger than most mom/pop places which was great as there were 7 of us. Now we did come around 6.30 on a weekday and seating was great. Later it started to get full. Staffwise, as it has been said often in other reviews, they are extremely polite, attentive, and quick. Loved them all. The food was just perfectly balanced and really tasty. The sushi pieces are not overly burdened with rice, the fish etc. toppings were a good size, and very fresh. This applies to the rolls too. If you can handle it ask for chopped up ghost pepper in the roll, just adds umami to it. The fried dishes are just as good and plentiful, and the price is just too reasonable. First time ordering from here have been craving sushi during this pandemic. Super fresh and yummy. They even gave us a free roll! We also got 2 dinner bento box with 2 choices of sides we got teriyaki chicken and sushi pieces also comes with rice,salad,soup. I came across this place and when I saw the area I was like eh but I'm glad I dropped in! I ordered salmon sashimi and an order of uni. they PACKED the uni. It was $7.99 for two pieces but I didn't mind because they somehow fit 3 pieces of uni onto one piece and it was soooo creamy and fresh. The salmon was also really good. I was kinda alarmed by how thick the slices were and in my experience with thick sashimi slices the inside is hard. Not the case here. My pieces were velvety and everything I love about salmon. This place is very good. The fish tasted fresh and they don't over do it on the rice at all. They offer a lot of rolls on the AYCE menu even some rice free rolls that where also very good. This was THE place for you if you are looking for a Japanese food with comfortable atmosphere. With a new management, it was very welcoming and friendly but mostly DELICIOUS food. Chef Tony made us few special dishes and we couldn't enjoy more. Plating and quality of the fish and the ingredients were top notch. I probably eat there too much, but oh well. Fish, sushi, etc can be very dangerous to your body if old food is used, or food that isn't taken good care of.
