I had actually previously dined here before Covid-19 after a long hike. They offered a wide variety of AYCE and the staff was super friendly! The sushi was amazing, but I completely forgot what the name of the place was so I never returned. I came across Sato Sushi again while trying to figure out where I can order good sushi. Their sushi is outstanding. Even if when it's delivered. There are a lot of sushi places that I have noticed do offer take out / delivery during Covid but are not offering any of their sushi or are offering only a limited amount. Sato has their full menu. I ordered a few different classic rolls. I was very happy when it arrived. My order came with plenty of wasabi and different sauces. RAINBOW ROLL=fish definitely did not taste fresh and the fish was all colorless, was topped off with some balsamic vinaigrette looking dressing; DRAGON ROLL= skin of eel was burnt rock hard, charcoal black and the avocado... seems as if they took an eighth of an avocado and SMEARED it on a FEW pieces (both inside and out). NOT to mention that the crab salad on inside was super mayonnaisey tasting. *When i asked the guy what happened to the eel and why was it so burnt, his response, "oh, it's the skin and it's usually darker." I understand eel skin is darker, but never charcoaled! Thanks for the attempted explanation though. Used to love it here. Sushi has gone downhill since covid. Owner has become stingy, filling up rolls with way more imitation crab and charging 2 dollars for lemon. Now normally I wouldn't care but 2 dollars for lemon that he gave literally gave me the smallest drops of lemon. On top of that the rolls have became much smaller. You can tell the business is putting less into the rolls for sure. Fish itself became less fresh and overall just not where I would recommend good sushi in the area anymore. Over pricing the rolls and up charging for basic things like more lemon... really it's kind of dumb.... If you want good sushi just go elsewhere don't let the reviews fool you. Most of them are from back when they served all you can eat now they are just sucking money out of the customer to stay afloat. I wanted to give this place a 1 star but that would've been unfair. I'll start off with the good. The food was delicious, came out fast, tasted fresh, and there's a great selection. The place is a little small but when we went on a Wednesday night it wasn't too packed. Only four other groups sitting down, still plenty of room. Prices were reasonable, seemed to be about average for other sushi places in the area with similar quality food. Now the bad. The service was atrocious. We were served by an Asian lady in her 40's-50's and she was extremely rude. It seemed like she was having a bad day to begin with. Wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but it got worse as we went along. First strike- she kept bringing food and handing it over our baby in the stroller. If she walked a couple of steps forward she could've placed items on the other side of the table. Especially the hot teas. When we asked if she could put them on the opposite side of the baby she muttered something under her breath and seemed annoyed. Whatever, we tried to let it go. Second strike- we asked for a few additional things, nothing crazy. I think the chili powder. Again, muttered something under her breath and walked away in a hurry. She came back with it eventually but seemed extremely annoyed. Whatever, we were enjoying the food. It wasn't busy but we chalked it up to maybe just being a bad day. Final strike- our 14 month old and he was being a little fussy. We were trying to push him back and forth in his stroller to put him to sleep while we tried to eat. He was crying a little but not to the point where he was screaming or it was ear piercing. If it got to the point where other patrons were clearly getting bothered we would've stepped outside to put him to sleep but it seemed like everyone wasn't too bothered. She comes by and asks if we could please hold our baby. Uhm, what? I'm clearly rocking him in the stroller to get him to nap. It's as if she's never had a crying baby/toddler come in to her restaurant. That did it for me. At this point I was extremely annoyed with the service we were receiving. The only thing that saved this from being a 1/2 star was the gentleman that was at the sushi bar. He would come when he noticed we needed something and would follow up when the female wouldn't. We've always ordered through DoorDash and we love their food. We did not enjoy going in person unfortunately. Maybe it was a one off. I'm not sure. I would be hard pressed to try it again in person after the way we were treated. I guess if you don't have kids, not the worst place. Customer service is definitely lacking though. read more

I came here on Friday at around 7:15pm and there was no wait. There is a decent parking lot so parking isn't too difficult to find. The AYCE sushi price for dinner is $25.99 (the lunch price is $21.99). They only advertise two rounds but the waiter told me if we wanted to, we could order a third round. If you allow people to order a third round, why not put a third column on the paper? Something's fishy (pun intended) about this... The fish didn't taste amazing or melt-in-your-mouth fresh. My favorite fish is salmon but weirdly enough I liked the tuna more here. I did like the eel though. The fish-to-rice ratio is not as good as I've seen at other restaurants so there's the possibility you'll be eating more rice here and will get full from that. Overall this AYCE sushi place just doesn't come close to the other good ones in the area like Sake 2 Me or Asahi. read more

Yessss I love finding little gems like this! Came around 4 close to 5 and it was pretty empty on Sunday. I didn't know it was an AYCE place until I got there but good to know!! Didn't go through with the AYCE but I did order 2 rolls. Pathfinder Roll TNT Roll I wasn't too big on the pathfinder roll; it was too gingery for me but the TNT roll was SO GOOD!! The combo was just perfect! definitely order again Their beef and chicken teriyaki was good as well. Sato Sushi is the Best Sushi we have found in the Upland area. Tony and his wife, Sarah own and work in the restaurant every day. The reason for it being the best sushi in the area is due to the fact that Tony only buys enough fish for each day so it is FRESH!! Whatever fish is left over he does not use the next day; He takes it home and cooks it for his own personal meals. We have tried almost every roll on the menu and the pics I've posted are some of our favorites. We also love the salmon cheek and jalapeño bomb appetizers, but chose not to get them tonight. Whenever friends come into town and want sushi we take them to Sato and it never disappoints. The rolls they make are also much larger in size compared to most sushi places in and around the Upland area. Tony and Sarah are such sweet and gracious people and they love to make their customers happy!! If you are going to do take out my suggestion would be to call and order it directly from the restaurant and pick it up yourself because sometimes the delivery drivers don't pick it up quickly and also make stops at other restaurants for other customers before dropping off your food. When this happens any rolls you have ordered that are deep fried end up becoming soggy and rolls that are supposed to be cold end up quite warm by the time you get them. This is a delivery problem not a restaurant problem. Sato will also provide you with any extra sauce that you ask for which is awesome because my husband loves lots of spicy mayo, Siracha and eel sauce. So, if you have a hankering for some delicious sushi try Sato Sushi if you haven't yet!! Got delivery for our regular sushi Friday tradition. Tried Sato for the first time. Husband wanted spicy so ended up with everything that had jalapeño on it - LOL. As a result the rolls were a little bit samish. My bad..... Jalapeño bombs tasted good but outer coating would have been better fresh out of the kitchen. Soggy by the time we got them. Same with Baja roll, which is a roll that is baked or fried. Double spicy was good as is. These rolls are larger in circumference for more product than usual rolls. Order came with plenty of sauce without having to ask. Will try again but in person next time. read more
