Finally got to explore around Sausalito and try some of the food today! After a 2 hour bike ride from SF to here, my friends and I were STARVING. After some yelping, my friends decided to try the hamburger place while my boyfriend and I decided to give this bakery and cafe a try. Upon arrival, what first struck us was the cute homey feel of the bakery. I loved how the sign hung on the front and couldn't wait to try some of the food they had to offer. After my swooning of its decor, the next thing that hit me? THE SMELL OF BACON. That immediately made my cravings go from sweet to savory-- FAST. So, my boyfriend ordered the chicken pesto (based on a yelp tip) and I tried the Pastrami -- both on a soft roll and both hot sandwiches. My verdict? Delicious sandwich, smelled great and had a great texture. The toast on the bread was spot on! Perfect balance of crunchy exterior to soft fluffy interior. The pastrami provided a good amount of salt to my tomato slices and lettuce. The chicken pesto filled my boyfriend up pretty quick, so I commend these sandwiches for their size. His only complaint was that the pesto to chicken ratio was a bit off for him, he wished that there were less chicken! After, we DID consider dessert there but the presentation of the baked goods were frankly not that great. The baked goods (as well as the hot foods that needed to be reheated) did not seem appetizing and may look like they've been sitting out for a while. I didn't see the yelp-famous chocolate chip cookies displayed, so we didn't try that. While very cute and decorative, this bakery was pretty average for me. The sandwiches were filling and pretty good -- but not extraordinary. I could safely say that I've probably had better sandwiches at other places hence the average rating. To top that off, the service was decent but not inviting. I somehow felt like the service should've been a bit friendlier... (maybe it was just me.) When we ordered sandwiches at the counter, the cashier checked off boxes for what we wanted in our sandwiches but she didn't read off all the things we could've added on to it. I had to look upside down at her writing to read it for myself, which was a bit weird. It was also a bit confusing for some of the customers-- while in line we were approached several times and asked if we were actually in line to order. (weird...) Overall, worth a one time visit but I wasn't absolutely blown away by everything. read more

Such a quaint little place. The first time I came here was with my boyfriend at the time and we had rented bikes out near Fisherman's Wharf and biked all the way here. Now I'm back with that same guy as my husband and we wanted to make another visit. We actually went and sat at the same place and had the same snack. We ordered the regular ice coffee, but it seemed watered down and such. And I was looking for that cake that I had the first time, but they were sold out I guess. But then I asked about it and the cashier said they had some in the back. I was so ecstatic! It's the blueberry bread pudding which was as good as it was the first time I had it. The sandwiches are all made on fresh baked sourdough loaves. Say no more. Salad- go away and come back later. BLT with thick sliced bacon....whoa! Veggie sandwich stacked with your choice of veggies. Mine was loaded with roasted tomatoes, roasted eggplant and asparagus. Top that trio with mozzarella cheese and fresh pesto and you have a mouth full of home run! Delicious is all I can say about this place. My boyfriend and I wanted to go for a local stroll by the water and we love Sausalito. We decided to go later in the afternoon, since it is hard for us to get out of the house early. When we got there, we both had a craving for caffeine and we remembered this little Cafe is just a walk down from the parking area. We weren't in a rush so we took our time, enjoyed the view, marveled at the houses on the cliffside and reveled in the sunshine. We made it down to the Cafe and we both decided a coffee while listening to the water would be perfect. So, we head in. There was one person ahead of us, so we followed the socially distant rules of 6 feet apart while he was helped through his order. He got a salad topped with this amazing looking prawn pasta salad and he added 2 giant beets to the plate, ohmygosh, I have to go back for this treat because it looked amazing... He grabbed his order and then it was our turn and I just could not resist a pastry. Although all are tempting, something about blueberry and cheese just hits the spot. They also had apple strudel, gigantic white chocolate and milk chocolate chip cookies, small linzer, tea cookies and a tray full of fresh baklava that was oh so tempting... I made my decision and quickly turned my head away from the other temptations. We got up to the counter and ordered our coffees, now mind you, it's about 2:30pm in the afternoon, and a lot of places are not so hot on serving coffee this late in the afternoon, but the guy behind the counter did not skip a beat. Warmed and frothed our milk, made our coffee and did it exceptionally with no sight of being put off by the weirdos ordering coffee in the afternoon. :) I got a latte and the bf went for a mocha. We got our choice of sugars, cinnamon or extra chocolate and then were informed we could sit inside or out (What is this foreign inside seating you are mentioning, sir?) we opted for outside, because again, the view! The guy who ordered before us was still sitting outside and man, again, I have to order the salad he got because he scarfed it down within 10 minutes or so? I can only imagine it must be delicious. My boyfriend and I slowly enjoyed our coffee and just had a nice time being out of the house for awhile. What I love about this Cafe is the variety. They have beer on tap, beer in their fridges you can buy by the bottle, they have juices, sodas and other soft drinks in the case, but you can also get an Italian soda, coffee or iced tea. Hungry? They got you covered there too, a wide variety or salads, sandwiches and so much more. It's a perfect stop for whatever you need during your visit... Especially if you are not feeling the high price tags of the other restaurants (I mean, I would love to eat $50 crab or lobster daily, but that's just not gonna happen til I win the lottery). This place is like a hidden gem. Clam chowder: super flavorful and full of bacon and potatoes. I personally don't like clam chowder that tastes like you're sipping on the ocean, and this one was super balanced. So yeah if you want a clam chowder that tastes like you're drinking out of a clam, this one isn't it. Veggie plate: For only $9.95 you can get a beautiful vegetable plate - 3 choices of veggies on top of a bed of greens with a tasty dressing. I tried the avocado filled with tomatoes, beets, and grape leaves. The grape leaves weren't my thing because they were mushy and didn't have that nice robust flavor. But the avocado and beets were incredibly fresh and tasty. I even cleaned up the greens and dressing on the plate. Super tasty and fresh. Tri-tip sandwich!!!! new favorite. And ask for extra beef gravy. Super tender and flavorful meat and the gravy is something I could just order gravy and bread and be happy! There are a few tables on the sidewalk that are nice to people watch, but to be fair, there are lots of parked cars that will block your view of the water and the restaurant across the street. But it's still nice to be outdoors sitting at a cafe while eating fresh food! They also have great looking baked goods. Only got to try the chocolate chip cookie, which tasted more like a tasty scone. This spot is a little further down on the road so many people may fall off earlier as they are walking down the sidewalk. But if you have patience, you come upon this place and it's a hidden gem. My second time at Sausalito Bakery and Cafe. I came specifically for the clam chowder that I had on my first visit. Once again I was not disappointed! The man behind the counter (I assume was the owner) was a very nice guy and his customer service was OUTSTANDING! The chowder was great once again and the bread was very fresh! I also added a chocolate chip cookie. They are CRAZY big (almost the size of my hand and an inch plus thick) and have a large amount of chocolate chips! We sat outside in the sunshine and enjoyed the fresh air. Where else can you do that? I didnt see anywhere else. Tons of seating inside as well. This place is almost directly across from "Scomas". I can't believe I've never been here before! This charming little spot has a parklet and overlooks the bay. You can sit outside or inside (first come, first serve for tables). The baker and part owner (family-owned business), Joshua (Josh) came out to greet us and serve people breakfast. He "saved" our table by tilting the chairs and promising to keep an eye on it while we ordered inside. When we got inside, there were cases of homemade goodies! Baked goods, frittatas, salads, fruit, and much more. I had had a tip that the Blueberry Bread Pudding was a fan favorite, so we started with that. It was delicious, really comforting and not too sweet. Josh warmed it up but it would travel well to go, too. Most of us got the egg sandwich and you could choose your bread. I chose a fresh croissant. It came with cheese and bacon or ham. I would get that again in a heartbeat. My friend got the frittata and they loved it. Coffee is Peerless and was strong and good. Josh couldn't have been nicer. I have no idea how he bakes everything, sells and serves food. He is a one-man show in his chef hat. So talkative and approachable. His family owns this business and they all help run it. He, however does all the baking. The cookies look incredible and next time I will return to try them. This is not just any ordinary Bakery this is a true Authentic Italian Bakery and cafe, they have handmade pastries, cookies and outrageously delicious sandwiches, my favorite was a crazy good pesto chicken sandwich blew my mind!!!! My hubby too so good I still think about it! So I can't wait until we return, I surprised hubby with cookies, canollis and raspberry heart cookies. He lost his mind, we both agreed the food is exceptional in the excellence of the Italian Cuisine they sell the story of the Italian Food Culture, we were so impressed we could not stop eating or talking about the food we were eating, I wished I lived next to this bakery I would be here every day for a coffee, a pastry and a sandwich. This is at the perfect location in Sausalito and it fired at all points for flavor and selection for food and coffee BUT because it is located in the most popular tourist part of Sausalito, I had to lower it to 4 stars. If you don't care that it took me over 30 minutes to find parking which I finally open my wallet and valet park my old 21 year old car and avoided killing several bicyclist and pedestrians then this is definitely a 5! I greeted my companion in the worse mood but after some really tasty dolmas and salads and coffee, I was human again. Then I went back for pastries and that made me an angel (haha). It was truly a great place if it wasn't for the location. read more

That blueberry cobbler, bread pudding...whatever you want to call it....it's so nommy.... It paired perfectly with my black coffee. It was creamy, smooth and not overly sweet. I love the middle of cinnamon rolls and this reminded me of a piece of cinnamon roll centers :) I really enjoyed the fresh blueberries they used and it took a lot of self-control to not scarf the whole thing down. Decided on this spot for it's array of options as well as available seating despite the warm Tuesday afternoon. Wasn't necessarily hungry, so decided to just get the Chocolate Chip Cookie and a canned beer ($8ish total). Cookie is certainly massive, with lots of chocolate chips dotting the dough. More crumbly than I expected and not as soft as some other cookies I've had. Probably would have been better with more butter, yet finished it nonetheless. Beer is a solid accompaniment as it was light enough to not overtake the food. service here does it's best despite the crowd. Sausalito Bakery & Cafe is right at the southern end of the "tourist area" shops in Sausalito, across Bridgeway from the Trident. I like to describe the food as "better than it has to be", considering the influx of tourists. But the quality also brings locals, like me, there. My usual meal there is the Frittata, which I love. Most frittatas are sort of a vegetable and egg loaf, and I pretty much like them all. But this one is actually "creamy", probably from softer-cooked eggs, and less loaf-like, with larger-cut vegetables than is usual for a frittata. It's served warm (microwaved) with a few small slices of baguette, and it's been great for the many years that I've had it there. read more

Sausalito Bakery & Cafe sits directly across from the water. Gorgeous views! There are tables both inside and outside as well as several benches across the street that face the water. I loved the Greek Salad, it was so fresh and delicious. We also had a BLT with avocado that was good as well. The deli was clean, the service was good and the location was perfect! I was told that they do, but it costs $1.36. Well, I bought the water, but decided to go somewhere else for the coffee. I stopped in Sausalito for an hour or so just to look around and enjoy the stunning view of the city. I stumbled across this place on my walk and what a great choice for a light lunch. There was a gentleman behind the counter who was possibly the owner, dressed in a chefs uniform, he welcomed me immediately had a genuine warmness about him which is hard to find these days. I ordered the BLT and he brought it over to me himself and I have to say it was the best BLT I've ever had in my life. Absolutely sublime. Warm service, great food, great view.
