One thing that I absolutely enjoy from Save Mart is their crispy chicken strips. You can't beat them My family really enjoys them too. With all my health things going on the two surgeries, the cancer, all I could think of was the crispy chicken strips. I miss them in the last couple months. It sounds silly, but couldn't wait to get them, so I called and I spoke to Cherie. I think she may be the manager of that department. I told her the situation probably more than she needed to know, but I was telling her I wanted to order them so they'd be fresh when my daughter picked them up. Cherie had nothing but the most wonderful, comforting words that she could say to me. She honestly made me feel like she really cared. When my daughter picked up the chicken strips for me, there was the sweetest note written on the bag. This is a perfect example of going above and beyond and making customers feel cared about. I admit I'm very emotional at this time in my life, and I read that and started crying. What may have seem like a small gesture on her part actually was huge in my world. I can't wait until I can drive again and I am healed so I can personally go in and thank her. I did call her, and I also called corporate office to tell them about the note and how she made me feel. I really enjoy shopping at Save Mart. This is the only market that I feel the employees are my friends. They always greet me cheerfully and are always very helpful. They have great deals on their foods. Every week I watch for their ad. It is clean and a nice place to shop. I have gone to the other markets here in town and they don't acknowledge me as a customer. Bakery I guess the customer request doesn't matter it's all just done at their (her) convenience. Asked for some of their corn bread was told it was in the freezer way in the back and she'd get it out tomorrow if you got it go get it I don't need it tomorrow otherwise I'd ask for it tomorrow won't be faithful customer to this Savemart any longer. read more

Great prices / good deals on some food. Disorganized store with some items in places that do not correspond with other nearby items, especially snacks and gummies not that anyone should be wasting money on empty calories and disease causing foods. And the self checkout register did not let me scan and place items on the shelf they're supposed to be placed on, forcing me to lift them up and replace them 10 times. The register then forced an employee to input a login code to move forward for no reason. read more

I give up on calling this store for anything. I doesn't seem to matter which one. They do not answer the phone. I am not driving a half hour to see if they have something in stock. It rings and rings then you get transferred to customer service who transfers you back to the department where it rings and rings. Friggin useless. I can't give the meat department staff enough kudos for their incredible attention to customer needs. If a roast is on sale and none are out for you to choose one. The staff will promptly address and bring you a few roasts so you can choose. They'll even cut them into thick steaks if that's what you'd like. This one goes to ERIC at Save Mart in Tahachapi, CA, the cashier on a Snowy and icy Thursday night of 12/28/2019) at 10 PM! I was driving to Las Vegas with my three sisters! We stopped to find a place for a rest room break after stuck in a two hour bumper to bumper for two mile and hoping to find a hotel because there was no way we could continue driving to Las Vegas, most roads were closed and the ice was horrible! At first we pulled in Walmart but it was closed! We left Walmart and continued down on Tucker Road, we spotted Save Mart on our right and it was still opened and decided to drive in but we could only get toward the front of the market and we got stuck! I could see a young man was looking out at us and he was very anxious and he had to finish helping a customer, then he put on his jacket and pick up a shuffle and started approaching us! We knew he was coming to rescue us. I opened my window and asking him for help, with no hesitate, he started shuffling the ice under the left tire and gave me direction to drive forward then reverse and then a couple of more times.... then we got out of the ice! I thanked Eric and offered him a few dollars as a token of appreciation, Eric refused and said: No, thats ok I am glad to help and I am happy to help! Eric gave me the weather update for the following day and showed me where I could find the closest hotel to stay! I went inside and came to give Eric a big hug! My sisters and I thank Eric so much, we made it home to San Jose (canceled our Vegas trip)! Save Mart! You have a wonderful young man working for you and you should be proud of Eric! My go to grocery store! The staff makes it extra special. They are always nice, helpful and courteous. They stock pretty much everything I need and the deli/bakery is super. Better service than Albertsons. Meat department rocks also! read more

Once again my opinion should be totally bias here but man I have to brag......Victor the manager *not sure if he's still there* has forever left an impression on me. As a little girl that lived in the apartments behind save mart, behind the grocery store was like my backyard....I can't tell you how many countless hours he contributed to our imaginations running wild with stacks of refrigerator boxes. How much can I express what a kind hearted man this is, for two 11 year old girls he may very well of influenced where we ended up because of such compassion. In a town like Tehachapi giving two 11 year old's boxes to play with after school, probably prevented more than he knew. Let me explain; this man would tape notes to the refrigerator boxes so they wouldn't be thrown away, he would check on us, bring us duck tape and thumb tacks to make our "fort" that much more elaborate, waters and snacks if we've been out there all day, and at the end of the days come see how much we've "done to the place" :) He played a huge role in my happy childhood years and this may be the only place I have to thank him. These are the type of people that insist on helping you with your cart, that take the time to remember your name and in a small town like this victor took the time to really care, so much that I can't stop thinking about it 10 years later. This store is quieter than Alberstons and the workers are friendly and helpful. Store is clean. Produce section at Save-Mart is so much better than the other stores. Fresher and nicer. Sometimes the lines here are too long :( Parking is hit and miss depending on time of day and day of week. But Albertsons parking sucks too. At Save-Mart - Produce is cheaper. Dairy is Cheaper. Bread is Cheaper. Seems like most other things are a bit more expensive than the other store. read more

This place is definitely a bit older but it beats fighting the crowds at Albertson's across the street. I can almost always get front row parking so I don't have to fight a full cart of groceries across the lot when the wind kicks up in Tehachapi, which it inevitably does. The prices are similar to Albertson's but the customer service is much nicer. I like that if I use the S.H.A.R.E.S. card the kids' school gave us, they donate a portion back to the school. read more

Friendly staff and decent prices. Prefer over Albertson's. There was a customer in front of me at Albertson's once, right after plastic bag started costing money, that were checking out. All their food was bagged up and they went to pay. They were paying with food stamps I know this, because the cashier (one I hadn't seen before) said loud enough to the person that she should have let them know before they bagged her food that she was paying with food stamps. They then unbagged all the food to rebag it in paper bags embarrassing the poor woman. I was pretty disgusted with the lack of professionalism by embarrassing a customer like that. This store is absolutely disgusting on every level you look at it, and the only reason I ever shop there is because it's a closer walking distance to our house than Albertsons and i dont want to trek so far, but other than that I almost always avoid this store. Everywhere you look in this store is covered in filth and rust or mold, etc... nothing is ever cleaned up off the floor and you have to step in it to get around sometimes. The meat section almost always has meat that has gone bad in it and slowly rotting the other meats around it and the "fresh" produce section isn't so fresh and rather disorganized and small. I personally eat organic and was horrified when the organic produce was touching the side of the container which was covered in rust from top to bottom. The store smells strange and often gives me an upset stomach to even walk in. The employees are jerks and will often just push past you without a word if you're standing in the way unknowingly. The manager of this store is disgusting in his own right and shouldn't be in a managerial position there at all; he is rude. Nothing is stocked later at night when we go to avoid crowds and rather just thrown onto the shelves and into the freezers so you have to dig around to find whatever the hell you need. I have gotten sick from this store a few times now, and hope at least some will heed the warning a bit, but everyone has their own opinions. read more

I adore our Tehachapi SaveMart. I was brought up an Albertson's gal.. but after a huge fiasco in Alberstsons that left me in tears, I decided to try SaveMart. That was about a year ago and I never looked back. The staff at SaveMart is unbeatable. They're helpful, kind, and funny. I recently started wanting to buy bulk in mason jars to save on plastic use and SaveMart accommodated that well, without complaining or making me feel like an inconvenience. The managers are great, the cashiers are almost always friendly and I have never cried while trying to grocery shop there haha. I also once left my wallet in a grocery cart and when I called about it they assured me they had it locked up. I even adore the customers that shop there! Good people. One specific cashier (who was working when I lost my wallet) always gives me a hard time about leaving it and double checks to make sure I have it if he's working that day. Hilarious. like the other reviews had said, this place feels very homey! i'm used to the big grocery chains that all look alike and have all the same service. seems like the bread that i bought was more inexpensive than regular. can't really complain since i LOVE saving money. savemart and albertsons are about the same. sometimes albertsons have cheaper priced sale items when savemart doesnt...vise versa. the produce here doesnt seem very fresh neither does the meat. aspargus they had on sale at savemart was wilt-y. their brand name (sunnyside and bayview) is horrible...like how can sell this crap when it tastes bland? this place isnt clean. they were closed for a week from the health department cuz there were dead rats inbetween the shelves and aisles. read more

I recently moved to Tehachapi from LA. I came to SaveMart and got some groceries for dinner. Chris was such a delight, he noticed that I had passed him a few times LOL I was looking for pie filling. He guided me to the specific aisle...it was in an awkward spot on the shelf. As I stood in line with my son placing the items on the conveyor belt, Chris began to help me put my groceries on the belt too. COMING FROM LA THIS IS SOMETHING WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT USED TO. Then Hannah also started to help with the groceries as well. Jared, Hannah and Chris were so warm and welcoming! Hannah even helped me put the groceries in the car. I love shopping at Savemart! I've lived in Tehachapi for 10 years and am a weekly shopper there. I agree with the other reviewers who described the store as "homey". Hey -- afterall, isn't that why we choose to live in a small town? I look at the ads every week for Savemart and Albertson's and occassionally I will stop in at Albertson's for something on sale and do some of my shopping there-- and it always reinforces ALL my reasons for shopping at Savemart. At Savemart, the prices are much lower, the produce and meat are great, the store is clean, and it's always a helpful and friendly atmosphere. If I had to do my regular weekly shopping at Albertson's, I'd probably go home with less than half the things I need -- I am the kind of person that if something is way over-priced, I simply refuse to buy it - Period. Certainly, everybody tries to save money, but with me it's also the "principle" - I don't like getting ripped off! I also like to spend my money where the people treat you nicely. It's a training issue and a company culture issue, in my opinion, when you get a consistent experience with a business. It's clear to me that Savemart works much harder at this. In my experience, Savemart employees have always been helpful and friendly, they will actually go out of there way to help you -- in every department. Over the years, I've gotten to know the names of some folks in the meat, produce, & deli departments, the box boys and girls, and checkers. In 10 years, I have never had a bad experience -- Consistently a great place to shop! read more

Way over priced!!! Walmart is way cheaper and they provide better customer service

On 1/8 around 4:30 PM I was purchasing meat near the deli and began to hear snickering as I walked by. I ignored it and kept looking around. Only to pull my head up to see the same two men looking at me and smirking like they had just shared some sick joke. The shorter tattooed deli man walked back out and shouted to the other "Makes you sick to your stomach doesn't it?" all while standing right next to me. Now I'm no genius, but I'm not an idiot. Process of elimination tells me they were 100% talking about me. I'm very tall for a woman so maybe my presence intimidated them seeing as they were both slightly overweight and around 5'7. The comment had transphobic undertones so maybe they mistakenly thought I was since they obviously equated my stature to a male. I'm also one of the few black people in Tehachapi so maybe that was it. I honestly don't care at this point. I just wanted these men to know I was wide aware of their judgment of me.
