Saveurs 209 c'est trés magnifique! I really can't believe how this place isn't packed all the time. My special lady friend and I went for a late supper on a Friday evening celebrating -- well, ourselves and life in general. A short walk from our River Walk hotel on a cool summer evening, we arrived at 8.45 to find the restaurant empty after an early dinner crowd already left. Normally I'd be trepidatious going into an empty restaurant but due to the circumstances, having the whole place to ourselves was a super romantic bonus. The proprietors are this cute couple, very French. They were super welcoming and they gave us our space so we could make googly eyes at each other but were ever attentive to the levels in our champagne flutes. Highlights of the night was the cheese plate, found on the dessert menu but ordered as an appetizer and the "chocolate fondant" which was like a hot chocolate labs cake with some ice cream on top. An espresso and catching a couple fooling around in an open window across the way later, Saveurs 209 was a perfect and indulgent way to /begin/ our intimate evening celebrations.

Wow Yelp... What a letdown. 4.5 stars with 30 reviewers lead me and my dining party to think there was solid French food being served at Saveurs 209. Wrong. It's no La Frite. And not even close to a La Madeleine. We made reservations thinking it would be a full house in this intimate dining space. The seating was comfortable because there were not that many diners. Decor was very modern. There were bright plastic orange chairs, white countertops and big round lanterns. After being seated we were given simple menus. Three appetizers, three entrees and three desserts to choose from with wine pairings for each item. After ordering appetizers, we were finally given water. Each glass was filled 1/4 of the way with lukewarm water. This is weird and unacceptable. As amuse bouche, we received round, puff pastry tarts with a cube of cheese sprinkled with sesame seeds on top. I thought this was random but as you'll see, it was a very cheap amuse bouche. We ordered the mushroom tart and beet ravioli as starters. The mushroom tart was made from the same puff pastry as the amuse bouche. The mushrooms filled a cavity in the center of the tart in the exact round shape of our amuse bouche. The mushroom medley was actually an assortment of very cheap, uninteresting local grocery store mushrooms. Buttons and Bellas. For $12 and a tart the size of a deck of cards (with a big cavity in the center!!), I was hoping to see morels or chanterelles. Our beet ravioli were even worst. They were shaved beets stuffed with crab (very salty) and five slivers of cucumber sprinkled with salt on the side. I saw no purpose for the cucumbers. For $13 I expected more than 5 itty bitty "ravioli" that required minimal cooking effort. Oddly after finishing starters we received our "bread basket." This was 4 slices of cold, dry wheat bread served alongside 3 pats of cold, unspreadable butter. This was probably the worst bread basket I've had in San Antonio. Then we received our entrees. My friends ordered risotto with scallops and I got the lamb shank. The scallops were very plump but too salty for me. The bed of risotto they were sitting on was hard and dry. I wasn't too crazy about either of the flavors. My lamb shank was inedible. It had zero flavor. It also came with an eggplant purée laying on a bed of quinoa. The eggplant looked like cat vomit. Brown, gray, squishy... With some texture... But it was actually the best tasting thing I had during dinner. Better plating would have done wonders for this. Considering we paid $38 for each risotto and $34 for the lamb, I was hoping the portions would be bigger or the food better tasting. It did not satisfy on any front. Service was a little slow and the ordering of courses was wrong. In short - Move along folks. Nothing to see here. Turn around. You've been warned.

I stepped into Saveurs 209 on a Friday evening right as they opened at 6:30p. The restaurant just opened this week and hasn't done much advertising, but we were 1 of 2 tables eating dinner. The menu is very small, the wine list is more extensive. The decor and atmosphere is modern and fun. There were some issues with the price of our dinner--they gave us the wrong menu so they charged us $34 for the hanger steak when our menu said $17. They were apologetic about it and corrected our bill. The downside: we stared at our finished plate for at least 15 minutes, which was somewhat irritating as the server walked past us several times--to the only other table dining--without addressing that we were finished. Overall all the meal was fine. On my way out I grabbed a lunch menu (the prices are more reasonable than dinner) and I will report back as soon as I visit again.

Revisited after a couple months, as expected there are a lot of menu changes so we got to see more of what this excellent chef is capable of. Was told the coquilles St Jacques will become a staple item-rightfully so. Both our deserts were absolutely superb. Parking in LoBro (not sure if those NYC neighborhood acronyms will catch on in SA ) will probably continue to be problematic, at least the meters are free after 6.

We have been to France somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 times. Where to start? We find most French like most Northeasterners; they shun you until you are part of the click and then they are willing to lay down in traffic for you. We did not find that initial part here. They were warm, friendly, and wanting to please. They were people just like you and me. Give them love and a smile and see what happens. We implore you San Antonio, give this place a try. Is it huge portions? No. Is it Tex-Mex or BBQ? No. What it is, is amazing. Honestly, it doesn't take a whole lot to get it there either. Even if you just came for dessert. Try it. Give it a chance. Ya know how we like the movies of HARD WORKING people trying to make it against all odds? These are those people. We had real French food, of which we do not find anywhere in Central Texas even though we have several places (just because you stick duck in a crock pot with some bourgogne for 12 hours doesn't make it French). Without going into horrendous detail, you could tell from the food they were French. The French like things REALLY fresh. REALLY, REALLY, REALLY what they are. Tomatoes? If the French put them on a plate, they are the best damn tomatoes you've ever eaten. Chicken? The French have a chicken that is world famous. It's called Bresse chicken. No, not all chicken tastes like chicken. Anyway, this family has that thing. That need for quality over monetary gain. Are they human? Yes. Will they screw something up? Yes. In between the silence in the mind from their wine and the mermaids of their desserts, lies a gem. San Antonio, focus on the idea that this is a gem and focus on finding out why. Like our wives and husbands, sometimes it take a little bit for others to see it.

I love French cuisine and this place by far is the best in San Antonio. Every dish was so fresh and made to order. The decor is very nice as well. If your looking to be transported to France via cuisine, this is the place your looking for!

    MUST VISIT IN SAN ANTONIO!

What a beautiful place! Ambiance, wine list, service, food- all impeccable! Wish we had place like that in Austin! Snails, foie, soufflé are soooo French! So glad I found them

Amazing food. Great service. The place is fantastic, food is very flavorful. I had Fish of the day, buddy of mine had Quiche that was very tasty. And the desserts were amazing especially the nougat ice cream.

ate here for the first time today and absolutely loved it. the atmosphere, menu, and service were all exceptional. we got there around 12:30 and it was empty so we got to sit down immediately (although i would've loved to see the place more crowded!). i had the cold, melon/basil soup and the shrimp/avocado club sandwich. both were not heavy and very flavorful! i adored them! the house-made ice cream went perfect with an espresso to finish of the meal. our waiter told us that they are opening a bakery right next door, and i am very excited to see how that turns out! i can see myself eating at Saveurs 209 many times to come.

I absolutely loved the aesthetics -- there was plenty of parking, and when you walk inside, the décor feels classic, elegant, and welcoming. Our server, David, was extremely professional. His knowledge, attentiveness, and overall professionalism made this a really special birthday night for my boyfriend. We appreciated all the recommendations he made. We started with a Tempranillo red wine and a specialty cocktail. For appetizers, we chose the goat cheese salad and the French onion soup. Both were excellent -- the goat cheese salad was fresh and light, with an amazing crunch and flavor from the cheese. I would definitely order it again. The French onion soup was classic but honestly one of the best I've had, with the perfect balance of onion, salt, and cheese. For our mains, we ordered the beef Wellington and the lobster risotto, along with sides of blue cheese cauliflower and scalloped potatoes. The beef Wellington was surprisingly good -- I loved the crisp puff pastry combined with the mushrooms, beef, and sauce. The lobster risotto was chef's kiss -- absolutely delicious. I'm so glad they introduced the new menu because this dish was outstanding. The blue cheese cauliflower tasted good, though I wish the cream sauce had been a bit thicker so it would coat the cauliflower better. The scalloped potatoes, however, were phenomenal. We finished with a slice of strawberry cake that was incredibly moist and reminded me of strawberry ice cream with that nostalgic crumb coating -- really delicious. Overall, we were both extremely happy with our meals and the experience. We'll definitely be back to try more items and highly recommend it!

Our twelve guests ranged in age from 14-79 years, and everyone had a wonderful experience. We began with waters for the table, soft drinks, and cocktails/mocktails (Man Walks into a Bar, Amba No. 5, Don Alberto, Green Shug Collins). Due to our large party, we had booked a chef's tasting experience, which was spectacular. The appetizers were plentiful, flavorful, and unique. Our server, Anissa, did a wonderful job of explaining each dish-- its components, highlights, even suggesting that after finishing the beef dumplings, we stir the oil and yogurt together for an amazing pita dipping sauce. Our meal included four meats-- actually five, considering an off menu chef's creation for our pescatarian guest. It was such an immersive experience, I never took out my phone to capture photos of the food (or our group, sadly). Three desserts topped off the evening. When (not if) we return, we'll certainly request Anissa again. She made the evening a complete delight, even bringing out celebratory candles for our honored guests.

Overall, I'd say most of the people in our group probably would not go back, but I don't necessarily think that was because the food was bad or lacking flavor. I think a lot of us just weren't very accustomed to Mediterranean flavor profiles and this style of dining. Most of us really enjoyed the dips, the meats, and the desserts. Those were definitely the standout parts of the meal for our group. Some of the dishes in between were a little more questionable for us personally -- we tried everything, but there wasn't necessarily one specific dish we completely fell in love with. That being said, the experience itself was amazing. The atmosphere was so cool and unlike anything we had done before. Being served course after course and getting to experience so many different dishes made the meal feel really unique and memorable. All of the staff members who waited on us were absolutely fantastic and so understanding of some of our questioning looks while trying unfamiliar foods. Everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and made the experience feel fun and comfortable from start to finish. If you already love Mediterranean food, this place may be right up your alley. I just think it's good to know what kind of flavor profiles to expect before coming, especially if you're newer to this type of cuisine. Overall, we still had a great time there.
